This is my current favorite youtube channel, and I've probably only played two or three of the games you guys have covered. Your informative commentary and funny cutaway jokes make these videos so comfy and fun to watch, and I can never just watch one at a time. Thanks for your hard work on these, and please keep it up!
So we have purchase which was waiting 20 years to be used, an artist who draw hentai, more tweaking of old tech, a japanese whisky and more complex game than previous ones in the series. I would say it's another great PC Paradise video :D
This series would be nice to have a modern compilation, really does seem to hit that relaxing but engaging vibe. So many amazing titles that are kind of trapped back in that era and super thankful to have a channel like this to explore them.
I love the character designs! The girl in the intro staring wistfully against a landscape with a breeze is giving major Lilia vibes haha. Looking forward to your next Farland Story video!
Good point. I didn't even think of that. The setting is also the ruins of a temple with large columns which is basically the same as the Ys 2 Lilia scene. Thanks for pointing this out. :)

Still, pretty entertaining game if anything, having such a funny demon general, a trip to the Makai, Heaven, do the pirate ambush in that style before Fire Emblem did it with FE7, having Krim be a slime-mime, the time-travel / reborn storyline...lots of original ideas for such a budget title. And I appreciate the Hook and Back to the Future clips. Given who the artist is, I think it's a bit of a shame we didn't get a "Farland Collection" for the PSP by Debo and Cyberfront back in 2012-13 if anything, given how one of Yamamoto-san's newer games, Sora o Aogite Kumo Tataku got a family friendly release for the handheld due to its gameplay. Would be neat to have the series in another format as a collection for more modern systems, at the time.
Wish I would have bought a PC98 when I was living in Japan but didn't really know anything about it back then. Thanks for showing us all the cool games
Toru Nakayama, the lead artist and animator of the Mega Man Zero/ZX games is known for drawing pron in between games. Heck the design for the antagonist of ZX Advent was directly lifted from one of his hentai mangas.
Over the course of these videos I've really come to appreciate the simple charm of the attack animations. Also I was a little sad at how easy it was to get the mouse working; I was hoping for another daisy-chain of random adapters :D

Well assume it was a bit intentional at this point, as the game that you featured and a few other have recently been translated and are now sold in English. They are decent shovelware games; definitely a case of the eroge being notably more enjoyable then the sum of its parts: mediocre coom material and mediocre roguelikes. Also despite being such a prolific artist, Kazue Yamamoto can slip in the human anatomy department sometimes, like take a close look at the Lady's left hand in the picture at 1:28

@@BasementBrotherscome to think of it, after watching several of your vids covering many Falcom games (especially the "long lost" Star Trader related one), I started wondering if there's a chance you'll do a review for the Dinosaur? 🤔 I mean the very original game from the 1990, and then tell the difference in comparison with its remake which is Dinosaur Resurrection from around the early 2000s. Are you familiar with that almost forgotten series of dungeon crawlers containing some sort of card based battles system?
Yeah I've had Dinosaur for PC-88 and Resurrection for Windows in my collection for like forever. Definitely want to get around to it eventually, though it will require some effort learning the game since it's one of those I've always put down immediately every time I've tried to play it. Oh and the battle system is pretty much just a traditional battle system. The "cards" are just the way the character portraits are displayed on screen, similar to Western RPG's like Wizardry, etc.
Maybe this is splitting hairs but I feel I need to mention it. That enemy's accent isn't to make fun of foreigners, but it's to mark him as a foreign menace. If he was a clown or a drunk or any kind of comic relief, then it might be for poking fun at foreigners, but this character is clearly more of a dangerous type. Remember everyone has had to deal with aggressive foreign invasion so it's not meant to be an insult, but to highlight a common historical experience. And why would you be insulted?? It's fun making fun of outsiders! No harm in it. Anyway another great video as always.

It's unfortunate when translators fancy themselves game designers who know better than the devs of the game their translating. Doubly so if they don't provide the option to disable the changes. Heck, even if they do happen to be better game designers, I still don't want the changes All I want is the translation. That said, I'm happy the translation exists and at least there's the workaround to mostly get back to the original settings. Looking forward to eventually playing these for myself.

Hey hentai artists can be good artists, I quite like Satoshi Urushihara's work for the Langrisser games, man that guy can draw some nice boobs.😄 I do like that theological pastiche approach to the lore, kind of Christian, a bit Catholic, but also kind of Greek/Norse. Oh no amnesia, an all too common game protag condition, actually quite rare in real life heh. 7:29 God no, the designers don't always know what they are doing at the time Egs. WASD did not exist in the past and press "T" to talk. Man that is dumb, the game literally fighting against you for sensitivity control.🤮It was so awesome when control remapping ability came around. 10:35 Good attitude, I wish more people could laugh at themselves rather than being offended 24/7 365.😉 Overall a good solid entry in that series it would seem.

Not to mention all of the artists who do doujinshi in their spare time, or Type Moon's entire body of work starting as eroge before finding mainstream success, or Key's similar story. Hell, even CLAMP got their start as a doujinshi circle doing Star Wars yaoi in the 80s lmao

This game was really fun, and the art style is really great. Just wish Naoya Simokawa took the soundtrack more seriously like Tatsuya Watarai did (Tatsuya Yoshii must be an alias), since his tracks are underwhelming here.
Also, while the opening may be less animated than the previous game, but the opening theme (especially the GS and CD versions) is so good that it carries the opening.
Yeah, the opening BGM is pretty decent. Good point. At least it's more ummm... original than the opening music for the 4th one. We're gonna have a good time with that one if I ever make the video. Thanks for watching.
@@BasementBrothers Simokawa doing the opening for FS4 when he still needed time to improve was not a very good idea to be honest. It's just Under the World 1 with a bad timpani roll at the beginning (which is partially because of the limitations of the SC-55 I think). Still, there's some songs in FS4 that are really catchy, even if they are unpolished.
@@BasementBrothers No, it uses the leitmotif from Under the World 1 (unless it's Under the World 2, I mix up those song titles). The songs I'm talking about are from Farland Story 4, though maybe Simokawa stole the song from something else.
I don't know if this needs to be said, but 'hentai artists' are human beings as well and they would like to be treated like normal people. And this means not being turned away for mainstream jobs just because there are naughty drawings in your portfolio. There's too much ostracizing against people working in the adult entertainment industry.

There's something special about PC-98 games. So many games in the library feel very heartfelt and soulful. Really unique and creative games.

It's "SD" (super deformed) artwork. The style had already been around since at least the '80s in the Japan.
