I think if Morten really had wanted to, he could have wiped the floor with Martin’s vocal, but perhaps out of respect he chose not to. Or maybe it was just because this was recorded at the BBC on a midday show and he wasn’t up for belting it out at that time.
i like it. as a fanatic of both bands back in the 80s (my first concert was a-ha in 1986 when i was 13) i think it's a little overblown compared to the original but huge, bombastic shards of music is what you expect of a-ha, nothing less. morten's voice is still great and he still sounds as innocent and vulnerable as in 1985

You are so right my friend.. no one has a voice like Morten's. This is exactly the kind of songs he needs to sing. Melodic songs, where the depth, richness & subtle inflections of his voice sends chills through you... ones that allow his voice to do what it does best... soar!!! All three men need to get back to the basics & write new songs that showcase the unique qualities of his amazing voice, like they did in the 80's & early 90's! His voice was always the meat & potatoes of the A-HA sound!!
It took me a minute or two until I payed enough attention to the voice to realize the difference. Really nice job singing this song, the notes are pretty hard in depeche mode songs and they managed really well.
Because a-ha songs are harder to sing and Morten has a 5 octaves vocal range. For example songs like Scoundrel Days, Sycamore Leaves, Hunting High And Low, Manhattan Skyline, Summer Moved On and countless other a-ha songs are so difficult to sing that only few singers tried to sing them and many of them failed (including Chris Martin of Coldplay who is a big a-ha and Morten fan)
wow! I already loved this song but this version is also very good and I agree with others that it's a hard song to sing and Morten does a wonderful job at singing it.
One don't need to have the better 5 octave range to be the best singer. The power and feeling that Gore transmits when he sing is magical and so deep that there are not many singers out there who can match it.
this is great. Sounds exactly like A-ha, but also shows what a strong song it is. There was talk back in the early 90s of George Michael doing this song but I'm glad we got this eventually instead
Only Morten Harket, and this Perfectly Amazing Band, a-ha, can do new versions of other band's music, and do it more beautiful and amazing than the originals !!!!! The singing, the arangements, the instrumentations are just, well..perfect!!!!!

How this magnificent piece of music just appeared for me today and just because I was searching for Martin’s rendition yesterday in Sacramento? MY GOD THIS IS UTTERLY BEAUTIFUL and I’m pretty emotional because I only could be a DM fan because I have been an A-HA fan at first.
Didn´t know at all that Morten covered Martin Gore. I do love both, DM and a-ha. The more often I hear it, the better I like it, but I think it´s really strange. I´m eagerly waiting for Morten´s new album.... Greetings to all fans :-)

You can definitely hear the A-Ha elements in this cover, and Morten's voice is quite similar to Martin's. This is a very good cover.

I saw A-Ha play at Expo 86 (I was 10) I also saw Depeche Mode the same time. I always wanted them to cover DM, and I think they did an amazing job.
