Serious drum sound.
DM5 is a classic Alesis drum-sound module for drummers, programmers, producers, and anyone else who needs great-sounding drums and percussion. DM5 contains 540 stereo, 18-bit drum sounds that can be assigned to any of the 21 programmable drumsets. 12 trigger inputs enable DM5 to be used with all Alesis drum and cymbal pads, SURGE Cymbals, and the triggering devices from most other major manufacturers.
DM5 also has full MIDI I/O so it can be used as a sound source for composing, programming, and sequencing with a wide variety of controllers including keyboards, pad triggers, MPCs, and more.
Alesis' exclusive Dynamic Articulation™ technology modifies sample sounds so they change as you play them. This results in sounds that respond accurately not only to dynamic changes, but also with the appropriate timbral and color changes you'd expect from their acoustic counterparts. Our Random Sample feature also ensures you don't get the same sound twice for further creative realism.
Built-in Alesis studio effects including reverb and ambiance ensure that you can send a complete, finished sound to the PA, recording system, and your headphones with no additional processing.

Thank you so much for doing this, easily the best demo of this unit I've found so far!
Thanks so much for this demo, will make easy for me to learn to play this marvelous drum!!!
very cool sounds
I am using Alesis D4 module on my kit and it seems not so much changes this far..
it sounds very good , just add some reverb for the best ….
how did you get it to change drum kits to play the drum kit on the demo. I select a different kit and then play the demo sequence and it defaults back to the same old kit.
I want play the drums with this module! You will recomended to me this e-drum for triggering the kick, snare, tom's for sounded like a 80's style hybrid drums? Like a power kick and snare sounds with much reverb and industrial sound... Thanks my friend!
Hello! I can't help you actually, it really depends on your tastes. But ... if I were you I would invest on the lastest version of this module labeled the SampleRack (w/ SD card to load your fav 80's drum sounds or your own samples) ;)
this could be a simple question...but how do I make just the high hat louder.?..I can easily hear the drumstick hitting the plastic head a lot louder than I can hear the closed high hat...and I still can't figure out how to make it better. Anyone figure this out?
headfones)
This would be great for industrial rock.
Yes, DM5 was well abused for live and production in general. I am from the metal scene, this module was very common for live bass drum triggering and production.
I literally just bought one for that on reverb.com today!
I recently bought an Alesis SR-16 and most of these sounds are either the
same if not similar. I prefer the SR-16 because it's much smaller and easier
to store plus they are very cheap.
I could never defeat the reverb on the sr16 and therefore the drums got washed out in all my mixdowns...
@@earlclark5830defeat?
The sr-16 doesn't have trigger inputs
Can you create drum loops to jam with? Or is this just used as triggering? I know there are presets but not enough.
This is just a drum module, drum samples are triggerred by pads or MIDI input. It is not a drum machine with build-in drum loop.
You would have to program the loop in an external sequencer via MIDI.
Set up different sounds for personal kit push store and it show stored but when turn kit back on the kit not there . Am I doing something wrong
👍

Wish my DM5's value knob worked properly. Jumps all over the place while turning and sometimes spontaneously. Cleaning didn't help.
At least I can have some control using a MIDI controller. I set a bank of pads on the Akai MPK61 to send a Program Change to select DM5 presets.

Mine does that too. That guys video was 100% unhelpful lol
Have you looked at cracked solder points?
So if you connect this to a midi keyboard you get all the drum sounds by hitting the keys?
yes.
hey men can you upload the driver of the alesis dm5? pleaseee! nice video!
@@jahizp driver for pc to play with ez drummer. or you don´t have it?
@@thekukle I use the MIDI output from the DM5, connected to the audio interface ;)
this is why Jeff Porcaro hated electronic drums
shut the fuck up you discoloured flintstone
Do electronic drums hate Jeff Pocaro?
Butch Vig not
Ive owned this drum brain for years and ive always thought it sounded like garbage.
you're not wrong
You can find good sounds if you mix and match from the different options, the presets are usually pretty bad even on the most high end Roland modules, but the best use of this and most other modules is to trigger vsts.
@@lucyferina Can you control individual drum volume . I have a Yamaha DTX 400 and Kick is too low , no way to turn it up .
@@gravano2 yes you can but you can also choose what velocity curve to use which helps with dynamics ( soft vs hard hits). But, you can get a newer module that offers tons more options and even usb connections that you can use to trigger software such as EZdrummer which will sound way better than any current module today. You can do that with the DM5 but you need to have a sound card that has midi input.
Thanks - I am getting a used set now . Good enough for me .
Everything sounds overly processed. No air around the drums for a natural sound. Fine for electronic and dance, but not jazz, folk or acoustic guitar tracks.
Yes, this unit has aged badly ... I know some metal drummers who still use it, only for kick drum trigger monitoring and PA.
I was in a country band for a while, where the drummer tried to use a DM5. He didn't last very long with us. His next stop was a reggae band(a much better fit for his sound and style). Thanks for sharing with us. Take care friend!!
disagree... while they are extreemly processed sounds - they can sound great in a track.
If the sounds are used in dense tracking situations, the nuances don't stand out out as much. I do agree the DM5 is usable there. but say a small ensemble of guitar bass and drums... Do you think the processed sounds will be as good against acoustic guitar and upright bass? Of coarse not. I was in a country band, where the drummer triggered a DM5. It sounded like he was playing Nintendo. We had to tell him either lose the module, or lose the job. He switched to triggering a Roland
V-Drums module, and everything was great from then on. If we had been a dance, or top 40 band, the DM5 might have fit in better, but for us it didn't sound good.
For acid jazz?
Ive got a door bell that sounds better.
