I personally own the USS Cyclone as well, and from my experience, she is an absolute menace against other PT boats. She is also quite good at taking down low flying aircraft. However, frigates, destroyers and very big gunboats are a no go most of the time. I am a bit sad she doesn't have her complete armement. We are missing the 40mm grenade launchers and stingers surface to air missiles But i love this ship, it is a shame you don't see many of them in battles. She looks great and I believe she is the most modern ship in the game.
Cyclone is probably the pinnacle of US coastal right now. As you said, I would like to see the 40mm added at least give it a little more punch. Maybe we will get USS Hurricane with that fitout..... for 500k RP 🤣
@@CmdrTyrael Pretty sure they'll do just like the HMS Peacock in the British tech tree. They'll add another ship from the class but as a premium and with better armament like the LE Orla
I served on her from 1996 to her decommission in 1999. As of my tour PC-1 did have the Mk96. I know. I've shot it. I also loved doing dips on top of the swimmer platform ladder.
@@CmdrTyrael I will say one thing. Because of her size, smaller seas would toss us around like a ragdoll. The racks actually had seatbelts. The aft engineering berthing in the back wasn't so bad, but I was Weps department so I was in the forward berthing. My rack was the top one on the left coming in from the mess decks. The rolling sway was effectively controlled by the fin stabilizers, but not the heave. The up and down motion of the bow was brutal in rough seas. I have a scar on my back from us trying to out run a hurricane to get to our storm port in Annapolis. I was asleep when the bow heaved and rolled so hard it threw me out of my top bunk.
How do you get your radar to stay on? Mine only appears briefly when i hit the lockon button while zoomed in. My compass also disappears with the compass. Is it my keybinds, or is it a bug?
In the last update all vessels got a radar reflective of their type in realy life. Previously a ship either had radar or didn't. Unfortunately cyclone now inly has a tracking radar and not search type. You can point at a target and lock them as long as they are visible. I haven't played cyclone in a while I cant say if it's bugged or correct.
G'day G'day CMDR, Well a long yet perfectly done review as always bar having to deal with Minensuchboots (aka Minencuntboots) heh they really should have a long range spawn. Those Cyclone class ships kinda reminds me of the Fremantle & Armidale classes with their superstructure looks and on the latter the same autocannon fore, So hopefully Britain gets either of those later on. Hm it would be great if the devs allowed the Mk.48's as a mod to swap out the 12.7's similar to how it's with the Nasty class and it isn't like there ain't any AGL's in game example the Pr.1204 Late and they would definitely up their damage in CQC and a controversial option the AShM systems heh although the different mount with the 40 mm would've ultimately made it great too (maybe as a mod down the line or an event/ premium version).
I will say it’s spacious damage model does allow it to tank hits but it’s firepower is SO underwhelming. It’s a damn shame this was introduced in its current state.
It definitely can't punch above its weight too much. Funs boat to play still, feels much more like a coast guard vessel than a warship though. Better suited for catching pirates ☠️

Of course the Coast Guard recognized this as a useful platform but was unable to utilize it due to operating costs. That sounds about right lol.
