    For a 2008 Toyota Corolla, you have to push the ODO/Trip button to the ODO Meter reading for it to work and not Trip A. It worked for me on the ODO Meter.

    Your awesome. Just did it right now and it worked. Had a oil change today because the maintenance signal came on and I was due for it but the mechanic forgot to reset it after he was done.

    My mainte. reqd light came on right after dealership did the first scheduled oil change at 1 year or 10,000 miles with synthetic oil. Appreciate your video and hope I remember what to do when I get back to the car.

    Thanks for the tip man! I have an 09 Toyota Camry and it's not quite there, but it's due for an oil change and it's very annoying seeing that reminder pop up and stay there. I clear the display while driving, and that didn't work. I've learned something new today LOL!

    Just an FYI. Starting with the 2012 model year and all newer model Corollas, Toyota switched to a synthetic oil blend which extends the oil change interval to 10,000 miles as recommended by Toyota. Having said that it's a good idea to follow the maintenance schedule in your owners manual for other maintenance items which is why the light comes on after 5,000 miles from when the "Maintenance Required" light was last reset. Check your owners manual to confirm the maintenance schedule.
    Given the quality of oils and oil filters these days there is no viable reason to change it any earlier than every 10,000 miles (as recommended by Toyota) unless you are running your car under extreme driving conditions, such as performing heaving towing with your car (in which case you would probably be driving a pickup truck or SUV). People have been brainwashed into believing they need to change their oil every 3,000 to 5,000 miles. That's a self serving myth perpetuated by the oil service industry so that service shops can continue having you come back more often thus putting more money in their pockets. It may have been true 30 plus years ago when engine tolerances along with oil and filter qualities were inferior to current day standards thus necessitating more frequent oil changes. Of course, if you want to blow your money on needless oil changes that's up to you.

    "Organic" oil is the cheap oil that only lasts 3k miles. I call it organic because it comes from the ground, and because it's shorter than saying "non-synthetic". It came from decomposed organic material pumped out of the ground beneath the ocean or from some other country. So technically it's organic. I don't know if anyone else calls it that. I just do because it's quicker to say.

    call it what you want. To each his own. It doesn't really matter. If people know what type of oil to put in they'll most likely do it on their own, if not then they'll ask what oil to put in and maybe have someone else do it. Regular oil is still technically organic, so is castor oil. Semi-synthetic/synthetic/and ester are all synthetic based...most people don't know this. If they don't know enough about cars to know which oil to buy then they will ask if their car takes synth or reg.

    This is a newer toyota, there might be a slightly different technique. That corolla is a different body style. Most of the time it is mentioned in the manual that came with the car. It should be the same as this technique. If it doesn't reset it could be on for another reason.

    Can I reset the maintenance light if it's already OFF. I'm trying to simulate what you done and it doesn't work. Will it work only when the light is ON? When Toyota technicians change the oil themselves and the light is OFF, do they do this procedure to make sure the light won't go on for 5000 miles. I tried what you said often and nothing happens. I have a 2013 Corolla CE Canadian model. Even with the light off, I was expecting to see the 000000 reset for another 5000 miles. what I'm getting to is, once you do what you did, if you repeat the procedure, will you see the 00000 once again each time you do it, or does the maintenance light have to be ON to work like it did in your video?

    • @LegitRaceCraft
      @LegitRaceCraft  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Toyota dealers should reset the light when they change the oil, if they don't then they forgot to. If you reset the counter before 5000 miles it should reset fine.

    • @ThomB1031
      @ThomB1031 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +John H They forgot to reset the light when I went in for some service at a Toyota dealership about 4000 miles after the previous oil change. So 1000 miles later my light came on. I heard there should be some sequence of buttons, key turns et al, so I checked youtube and found this.

    • @ThomB1031
      @ThomB1031 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Kent Cohea Same on a 2007 Corolla, you have to hold on ODO rather than trip A or Trip B. Thanks for the head start on things to try though Hournine. Only took me 60 seconds to try it on ODO. :)

    • @gstacks510

      Try testing it on each (Trip A, Trip B and ODO) assuming the 2005 has the digital odometer as well (when was the first year they did that?)

      +Frankie Juarez This should work on most toyotas 2000 and up. The process might be slightly different from the video though. Like you might have to have it on ODO instead of Trip 1.

    I went 75,000 before my first oil change on my sequoia. That puppy runs like a badass with 350,000 soooo yeah fuck that 3-5,000k oil change bullshit

  • @jasonwarner6323
    @jasonwarner6323 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    Very seldom is it prudent to change your oil at 3k for conventional or 5k for synthetic. The 3k is a number from 50 years ago when oil was less refined and filters did a lot worse job. We go 7,500 on our 98 sentra and the oil still looks and feels new and is not broken down. Now if your car is under warranty always change oil when the manufacture recommends or you will void the warranty.

    • @LegitRaceCraft
      @LegitRaceCraft  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, that's very true. The modern machining techniques of car engines has gotten so precise that the oil changes can be farther apart due to less engine wear, and the technology and additives that go into the oil also make the oil last longer. With that said though, this video is primarily about clearing that oil change light that comes on every 5,000 miles, which Toyota has programmed the car for. If I had mentioned what you said I would have to spend another 5 minutes explaining why and listing references to sources that back me up, that way I won't get negative feedback from people that still believe the contrary. Thanks for your comment though :)

    • @jasonwarner6323
      @jasonwarner6323 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I wasn't trying to say you should have mentioned it. It was more in reply to the ones talking about going over the 3k or 5k miles. I liked the video. my mother inlaw just got a toyota there was no manual
      with it so i looked for a video.
