This was a great find! It really was talking to you. Even though I can’t use a reel like this if I had found it I certainly would have bought it Good job Scott! What a beautiful main gear it is another example of why I love vintage reels. This is exquisite workmanship. Thanks to you and Scott for allowing us to see this little work of art. I am truly jealous! - Chris
Thank you for putting up this video! I was just playing around with a Shakespeare Favorite 1733. It was pretty rough and noisy, but cleaning and new lube did the job. These older reels are works of art.
I've got two old knuckle buster reels, a Shakespeare 1960 Criterion Model GE and a South Bend Number 55 Oreno Model C. I don't know when either one was made but they're both in excellent condition and are a joy to use, though I tend to use my modern reels the majority of the time and just break these out when I'm feeling nostalgic. Hard to believe companies that I recall being synonymous with cheap junk when I was a kid back in the mid 70s once made such quality products.
that reel sounded like two alley cats fighting. It sounds like new again. It's amazing for a 1946, factories were just getting started retooling. cars were being made again, there were still troops in Europe and the Pacific etc

Glad you enjoyed it. - It is a great testament to fine engineering and vintage reel production! Best wishes Chris
I have been using Shakespeare for over 30 years
Thanks - the company has been around since the 1890s and made great products - Dennis

Yes, they are special. The only thing that is hard is learning how to cast with them. Once you master that, you appreciate them even more - Dennis

It sure is! Thanks for the note and for watching - Dennis
