Always glad to see another Veedeo pop up. So excited for the prerelease. WOTC decided to add a card from the commander set in addition to the prerelease promo. They said we can play the stamped promo but NOT the other card from the promo pack. So while they are sweet, we don't get to have fun with them.

They unfortunately are not legal to play in the prerelease, so I found it odd they decided to still put them as counting to be part of the main set, especially since the last time they did this in March of the Machine, the bonus cards specifically were part of March Commander... My LGS has had to learn from what I've learned from online on several occasions just due to being underinformed from both WotC and distributors... They really need to stop confusing players with these 'extra' prerelease-only cards that aren't playable in the prerelease.

It's not changing that managers for my store (even the ones that have been playing for decades) were not aware of this; In addition, I cannot overexaggerate how many people at my store's prerelease yesterday mistakenly thought they could play the card or physically came up to the judge to ask them if the card was playable (Even after the manager reminded the players that the card behind our prerelease promo was not playable in the event).

I didn’t notice before but Mengu’s audio is in my left ear and Tom’s in my right ear. I think it works well with the back and forth dialogue during gameplay.
personally I find it a bit jarring as mengu tends to do most of the talking so it just ends up being mostly in my left ear. Would prefer if the audio level was centered

Just as a reminder about this set. You actually are not allowed to play your second Promo card. For some reason they decided to include an additional card in the promo that is standard legal but you are not allowed to play in your sealed pool

I always get confused about splashing and endup messing the manabase, thanks for offering a baseline idea for it. If I am splashing 3, do I need 5 mana sources/4=6?
Does the interaction at the 18 minute mark actually work out like that? I thought neither turning something face up or declaring blockers uses the stack, so how could Mengu respond with his removal spell before his flyer counted as being blocked? Anyways, great veedeo, love the content!
The other comment is by alexanderminer for anyone curious. I have read the comment and also googled some in order to understand where I went wrong. My misunderstanding stemmed from the fact that I thought “doesn’t use the stack” meant that it didn’t interact with the stack and priority system at all. However according to 116 (and 702.37e) special actions still need the player performing them to have priority and give him priority afterwards, with everything that implies. So what happened here is that Tom needed to morph his creature in the declare attackers step because it is the last time he has priority before having to declare blockers (and at that point already needing a reach blocker for the flyer), gets the priority back afterwards and according to 117 not all players have passed in succession without taking an action, so the phase doesn’t end even though the stack is empty. Mengu gets prio again and kills the now morphed creature before entering the declare blockers step. I think the only thing that “doesn’t use the stack” means is that an response by your opponent to the action before it happens but after it has been declared is not possible. (I’m sure there are other edge cases where it has more consequences). I think this also means that you can remove a creature that has been morphed in the declare blockers step before it does any damage to you or your blocking creature, which I haven’t seen yet but then again I have seen about 3 tarkir drafts so what do I know 😅
I think the promo mythics are not legal in sealed so the voja shouldnt have been played unfortunately. Not looking forward to argue about this during my own prerelease...

I'm sorry if I'm wrong, I'm not so well versed in magic (only playing for a few months) but i've done some research about face-down cards as we're coming close to pre-release and I think you've played against the rules (but correct me if I'm wrong, it's hard to find rulings for specific situations). So, at th-cam.com/video/-2g3ERF_CSI/w-d-xo.html you attacked Tom and he said that in response will turn a face-down card up, this action does not use the stack, so it means that you cannot respond to it, meaning that you cannot respond to his action and have to wait until he declares blockers (cause declaring blockers doesn't use the stack also), so in this case he would've been able to declare a blocker for your flyer and even if you destroy it, he would've been able to avoid taking the damage. Please correct me if I'm wrong, happy to discuss :D

As revealing the creature does not use the stack, the attacker does not get priority back until blockers are declared.
Exactly! I found it weird that while he took the time to explain that flipping a Disguised creature doesn't go on the stack, he still went for the kill... Also, he wasn't supposed to use that mythic rare from the promo in his deck!! Would have been a totally different second game, at least.

If all players pass in succession (that is, if all players pass without taking any actions in between passing), the spell or ability on top of the stack resolves or, if the stack is empty, the phase or step ends. So yes, Morph doesn't use the stack, but that doesn't mean I must pass to Block phase if you did something in Attack Phase. Hope this helped.

If so, I understand your point about being able to interact with a potential blocker. However, if you attack, but the defending player waits until the Attack phase ends and the Blocking phase begins, can they then flip their Disguised card to show it can block your flyer and immediately proceed to block it without giving you the opportunity to put your removal on the stack? Technically they’re in the main set but can’t be found in play boosters. They’re standard legal.
