"Revenge is a dish best served cold!" actually means wait for your chance and then take a swift/cruel revenge. Revenge is intentionally brutal on its own, but it's better if you wait for the right opportunity to exact it-generally when the person least expects it. A calculated revenge is better than an on-the-spot revenge. You can do it LEGALLY so that the person can't really retaliate against you without making themselves look all the worse for doing so. Legal revenge is always the best revenge.

Last story had me thinking of something that a lot of people seem to forget: Your employer doesn't own you. If you have a valid enough reason to take days off, they legally shouldn't be able to (and usually can't) make you come in those days. It is _their_ responsibility to cover any crucial positions in any of their employees' absence, not yours.
