Aside from the moral issue of Kim wearing Marilyn's dress, it just doesn't look that good. The whole reason the dress is iconic is because it's Marilyn's exact skin color and gave the illusion that she was wearing nothing. On Kim, it just looks like a beige embellished dress. Also, her butt didn't even fit in the dress which is why she had to wear the fur to cover it, before she changed into the bigger replica dress. They should've just made a dress inspired by Marilyn's but in Kim's shape and color.

They usually can decline to go, but the Met is the social event of the season, so if they get invited it is in their best interest to attend. Also, most of these celebrities are brand ambassadors for whoever they are wearing, so they are low-key deadlocked in a contract lol. So yeah, suggesting an outfit or not attending isn't always as easy as it seems. Also not following the theme isn't bad, just don't wear an ugly dress lol.

But this year a majority of the people in attendance did not stick to that theme. That's what makes the Met Gala such a big deal. Trying to see how creative people and designers get with the themes. But the mark was missed this year.

Billie for one was right on the theme, kacey musgraves silhouette was pretty on theme, Nicola coughlan was very on theme, Vanessa hudgens was a great example of making it modern wit the sleeve shape and high neck. Those r just a few tht hit the mark tht I can remember off the top of my head

The themes are based on the fashion exhibition in place for the year at the MET, like the actual museum. This year's exhibition is about American fashion which is why the theme is related. "Out of the sea" is not going to be a theme because there's no real-life fashion exhibition that would lead to that theme. Organising with foreign fashion archivists to get pieces for an exhibition is probably a bit difficult, but they did do a China theme a while back so it is possible.

To be honest these themes are BORING as fuck, why don't we get a "Arabian nights" theme or "out of the sea🌊" or anything interesting like are there restrictions on the themes or something?
The themes are based on the fashion exhibition in place for the year at the MET, like the actual museum. This year's exhibition is about American fashion which is why the theme is related. "Out of the sea" is not going to be a theme because there's no real-life fashion exhibition that would lead to that theme. Organising with foreign fashion archivists to get pieces for an exhibition is probably a bit difficult, but they did do a China theme a while back so it is possible.
@@ActuallyAnanya Thanks for explaining how that works, so it's only related to "real world" fashion so we can't get a "fairy tale" theme or something like that? Regardless Arabian nights isn't out of the picture since it's a real world thing, hope they step it up with next year's theme
