I can't believe how many times I've wondered this particular question. Why, why why, do people thumbs down a bunch of people making music? Especially Levon Helm, a freakin icon. If you don't like it, go away.
Cause they are dumb asses. Lot of people don’t realize that Levon Helm had a Platinum Album in five different decades, one after he had throat cancer and lost his voice and retrain his voice.

I'm 51yo, I'm italian. The first time I watched The Big Chill I fell in love with this song and now watching mr.Helm singing and playing . . . I cried as a baby. RIP Levon Helm

Levon will live forever - because they'll still be singing one of the great all-time songs hundreds of years from now. The Weight is timeless and iconic.
Levon Helms and Robbie Robertson both because Robbie wrote it and Levon did an amazing job lead singing it. Especially in The Last Waltz. Robbie said that was the best he had ever heard him sing it. They had been performing it 8 years at that time.
Man I just smiled and cried through the whole thing. We miss you Levon. The weight feels pretty heavy right now during this pandemic but this lightened it for a few minutes. LOVE.
Greatest... Levon!!! Larry Campbell has taken the torch up for the next generation! Larry ..amazing musician. Levon will never ever ever be forgotten!!!!!! Robbie who? SMH Rick Danko - Twilight one of my favorites!!! Levon was heart & soul of everything! Miss you and Rick!!! Watch over us!
You all did such a fabulous job. Fantastic. That's what it is all about. When we can share our gifts together. Don't get no better than that. Love you Rozanne
i have played guitar since i was 10 and i am now 71 my daughter sings and plays when i see levon sing with his daughter i love singing with mine how more proud can a father be its more than you can believe
You gotta love Levon. He was the heart and soul of the band called "The Band". I love the way he changes the lyrics every time he sings "The Weight", as if to just be Levon and maybe a poke at Robbie, for taking credit for writing all of the lyrics to the Band songs except for the ones that are expressly stated that was written by one of the other band members. RIP Levon, we will never forget.!
There will never be another Levon Helm. My husband and I were so saddened at his passing in April of 2012. We had tickets to his upcoming show that was scheduled for May 2012 at the Ryman in Nashville. Oh to have heard the angel of music in the Mother Church of country music. Rest in Peace sweet Levon. You are definitely singing with the angels on high.
Its so sad that his great and original voice...one of the quintessential voices of American music..was damaged the way it was. Still everyone knows the impact it had...and thats why they continued to honor the man. But what a travesty that voice was taken. Thank God we have the recordings...and had Levon Helms the man for lil while.

Levon and Teresa singing that verse was one of the most beautiful moments of music I have ever listened to and watched. The look on her face. She knew it was goodbye to a dear friend. He would soon be gettin back to Miss Annie...
What serendipity! I loved the Civil Wars, Joy Williams and John Paul White, and there they are on the far left looking as joyful as only they could look while singing! I wish they were still making their beautiful music.
I know Robertson wrote it, and a lot of people have covered it over the years, but this is Levon's song, and I believe everyone in that room knew that. What a treasure he was. I'm 63 and I can't think of another musician who was as loved as much as Levon was. God bless him.

I absolutely love, love, love this video. I just came upon it on YT. Not only one of my all time favorite songs. But such a tribute to Levon, what I really love is the sincere smiles and respect on stage between the musicians. Thanks for posting this version of the Weight!
I think I have found the music I love the most. Up here in Northern Michigan, we are a hot bed for Americana talent... sometimes fused with rock or jazz or heavy blue grass or pop even..... Gosh I love this music!
ZAP! This group captures the meaning of the song I understood at the time in '74 when I heard it repeated-in the right situation. It's the levels of coercion that EACH OF US imposes on our fellow man.
Who's the pianist and the blonde next to the tall guy with black hair? In fact who are they all left to right. I only recognize the three they named at the top. I love how much Roseanne Cash is smiling at the thrill of this song with Levon and these people. Who's the Jackson Browne looking guy at left? What you see so vividly is Levon with his spent body 40 years later but his enthusiasm and spirit still the same, and he has transferred the love of this music to artists young enough to be his daughters or his grandsons. It's infectious. That's why they're grinning. Singing and hearing this great composition of Robbie Robertson takes a load off of us all.
Interesting that Williams & Helm sing the last verse as a duet -- just like Danko & Helm always did. She's watching him closely, following the master's lead.
This powerful song .. Amazing great musicians... so sad but also so happy.. I'm crying it's hard hitting .. don't want it to end xx love and peace to you .. Kevin Rip you were amazing 💖
