I'd argue some remakes are good it's just the ones in the last ten years that feel terrible because the people who get to act on screen and represent these movie remakes act like soulless dirtbags with little consequence. Disney is only doing poorly I feel for the main reason that in the modern era they don't have the courage to tell their hires on screen, "Reel in what you're saying on screen. You're making our movie seem like trash and you look unhinged." The people they hire to portray characters on screen I bet are like basketball players these days and get the possibility of free agency when really many of them need a damn good movie agent because they can't sell their work except into the garbage bin. They choose to represent themselves instead of their characters and that's what destroyed these films. I'm not saying every script for Disney is 100% gold, but the acting hires seem to be the main blowbacks on all their projects because Disney literally picks up nobodies who try to represent themselves with very little talent under them.

You can make minor changes to the story and still keep it true to the original. With Live Action Cinderella, she didn't know who the Prince was and upon meeting him by chance, he hid his true identity and said he was an apprentice (which he sort of was). They took away the ENTIRE meaning and message of the story to turn it into a girlboss agenda.
