    Nice 1959 283 V8 Ute love El Camino's
    Basically America's Ute Version of the 1959 Chevy and is basically the same idea as our 1959 Holden FC Coupe utility in Australia

    Oh I wish I could find one 59 El Camino. That's the car I wanted when I was a teenager and never got one

    Did everyone forget that these had 348s in them. I had a 59 Impala many moons ago. With 348 in it.

      Family has a 59 Impala with 348 3 deuces in it. Sweet ride. I haven't heard of any 59 caminos coming with the 348 option as stock i guess but could be! Just starting to work on it more again, ended up moving and are waiting on a house to wrap up so i have a garage again haha

    I applaud you. Admitting that you don’t know a lot about cars yet putting your journey on TH-cam takes a lot of courage. I too own an old El Camino. Just a few steps ahead of you but mine is drivable now. Blessings in your efforts.

    I'm willing to bet that's a 283 considering the 327 wasn't released until 62

    Just found your video, hope you have been able to stay with this ole' beast. I am just a few months from starting my rebuild of my dad's 59 elco, his has been sitting stored inside since 1976. The original motor is a 283 and yours looks to be original, mine needs a rebuild but I am thinking and LS3 and upgrading the chassis to an Art Morison 4 link with air.

    • @lambchops382
      @lambchops382  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am sticking with it.. Was just working on it earlier today, mostly re-wiring. I haven't done any LS swaps yet but let me know what you end up with, that would be interesting to see how they work!

    I have a plate I made that fits the 3 bolt pattern of the pulley with a big bolt welded in the center that I use to break these old motors loose. I got a couple of these old 59's. Good luck. I bet the old motor will run. Also that's probably just a pressed on balancer so it won't have a crank bolt.

    looks like my 327 but it could be a 283 they look very similar and are both very good engines in my opinion looks like you have a crank bolt missing on that lower pulley I hope its not broken off in there that could turn out being a pain in the azz I also have not 1 but 2 59 elcamino's both are projects I have a 327 in one and a 400 small block in the other. We both have some rare birds here only 22,246 59 elcamino's were made even less of the 1960 model.Yep these elcamino's are going up in value almost daily.Well good luck with your project keep us updated. Also you might wanna check out (The Elcamino Store) 59 thru 87 elcaminos and get the free catalog.

      Thanks so much for the advice! Looking to find a bolt for the front crank.. Engine is still not turning, going to take off the starter and see if i can get it loosened up. What color were the two that you have? Just ordered a service manual for the car that should get here in the next couple of days, hoping that makes it easier yet!

      @@lambchops382 The first one I bought was in 1976 it was a repaint red with black interior it was a 2/tone original .yep worked my butt off all that summer to pay it off .I mowed a lot of grass that year just to pay it off and man that was in the day before 0 turn mowers a lot of hustle and leg work that year and I was only 14 years old at that time but i promised my dad i would pay it off and i did.I'm 58 now man the years fly by !! The second one i bought was out of Arizona i purchased it in 1998 it was a copper /bronze color but both elcaminos were 2/tones red/white originally.I drove my first one all my 4 years thru high school all my friends called it the BATMOBILE had some fun all those years thru school.What part of the mid west you from? I'm from middle Tennessee .

      @@roystone3901 That's one hell of a history! South Dakota is where I'm from. Looks like this one is a 2/tone as well with the red/white. Bat mobile could be the new name of this one with the wings on it hahaha. This one has a brown leather interior and had a shag carpet from the 70s/80s in it that i had to pull out, looks like a lot of the rebuilds put some sort of short carpet back in em.. is that what you did?

      @@lambchops382 My first one had red/black carpet in it it looked pretty good being that the elcamino was red with black interior.The second one out of Arizona different story it had gold/yellow shag carpet ya smelled like rat P had to go.!! I will say that the one you have looks very good I mean for 61 years old it has good bones to start out with These elcamino's can fetch over 100k if done right.I need some major body work on the one from Arizona when i got it it was pretty much rust free but this Tennessee weather been rough on it mostly my fault it set outside for almost 10 years ya should kick my on azz.the tailgates are very very hard to find .The ones on the 59 station wagons won't work different contour and thickness the tailgate on yours looks very good . I hope every thing goes well for you I know when you get it going your gonna put a smile on your Gramps face maybe even give him a ride in it .I have 2 grandsons now 9 and 5 when they come to see me somehow the small talk always gets on the subject of the BATMOBILE.

      @@roystone3901 This definitely gives me some more motivation to get it rebuild and driving again. Was working on it this evening, pulled the starter and got all the wheels freed. Going to see what i can find for rear fenders, still trying to eliminate the stuck engine/wheels, transmission, have a feeling its the transmission on back, just disconnecting pieces one at a time to find the problem. I'll post some more videos as I go, ordered a buffer for it as well to see if it will shine up the front end to see what that paint looks like. Thanks again for the help! I'll keep posting updates as i go!

    I like the bench seat great color combo I'd restore that. Drop an LS engine in that with a 4L80 or 60 and you'll have a great daily driver. Keep all the computer stuff from the LS donor it's a great swap.
