The reason urban planners put bike lanes on the side of the road, instead of the middle; 1) It's safe and riders feel safe. Because it safe and feels safe, when vehicles run only on one side, not the both sides. 2) bikers don't have to cross the road every time they get in and out of the bike lane. When the bike lane is on the middle of the road, you have to cross the road all the time. Last but not least, it's stupid to say it's their culture to ride on the middle of the road. In fact, the real reason, when there are no bike lanes, either don't bike, or people ride all over the road. You can see this in slums all over the world. It's racist to say, this behavior is 'their culture'.

Ok first of all it’s a speed bump not a big deal, Second like face palm said get the damn drugs out of the neighborhood, third maybe there be more lanes if the bike lane wasn’t in the middle of the street, fourth maybe it be even more inclusive if you had people of all races and genders, fifth riding in the center of the road is dangerous.
Walking, biking and bike lanes are racist and transphobic, except for bike lanes that are three times as wide and in the middle of the street- those, along with speed bumps dismantle systemic racism. Got it. Great reporting.

The whole point of bike lanes is to lower the amount of cars so it makes that they turn a lane into a bike lane. Just look at Amsterdam or Copenhagen.
