I love to watch people working with something as basic as a lump of steel and make a knife or like you with the deer antler making beautiful jewellery. My darling mum used my rocks I had found and built up over many years for her rockery and I never realised until it was too late and the house had been signed over. To think of the dreams and the time taken to collect all that stuff, maybe 200 LBS some in fist sized and others in football sized lumps. Oh dear . . . Take care and I hope you make
really long walk through the forest and find antler like yours. You must consider yourself very lucky, because where on the one hand you live in the middle of nowhere, it is relatively easy to find the animal paraphernalia you do to enable you to be so skilful in making your artefacts. I want to get myself a stone knife, and I searched on YT not expecting them to be for sale because they are so difficult to render, but they are for sale. Stay well and I love in particular the antler jewellery.
Do you ever wear any dust masks or anything whilst cutting through antler and bone? I heard that breathing in the bone dust can be bad for your lungs as it's too heavy to breathe out and can cause white lung or something? I don't know if that's actually true, but I read about it somewhereorother a while ago. xD
Rhaveyn i have not worn a dust mask in the past, but i will be doing so in the future. i always figured that i didn't get exposed to it often enough to bother with it, but my sinuses were so congested the last time i wont be so stupid in the future. i do wear eye goggles when operating the equipment though. i have also taken to wearing goggles and a face mask when scrubbing bones that have a lot of biological material still on them.i am not sure what the condition is called, but inhaling any amount of dust is bad for the lungs. my fathers lungs are burned out from years of using a cutting torch, welder, grinder, sanders, and car painting equipment without any respiratory gear. of course, even though he is on puffers and told to stop doing such things, he is still using the equipment without protection. and he still smokes too :S
Fair enough! I'm glad to hear that you'll be wearing one in the future - I'd hate for any health problems to arise for you through doing something that you love. That's a good idea though, I should probably do that too actually. :/ I've even taken to wearing a dust mask when illustrating bones due to the little flecks of dust the scratching of the pen creates. Oh no, what a shame! And the fact that he still keeps doing it the old way despite the health problems is always a worry. I think my brother is going to be like that, though he only smokes.
Hi Shadow, Thanks so much for the video. Its a great surprise to watch you do you work, I find it really interesting, and you have wonderfully ‘Royal’ white arms! Forgive that please. I have always wanted to make, or now that is not a reality, watch being made a deer antler knife made. I have seen only one, have you ever tried that? I find it incredibly frustrating not being to be in a situation where I can take a short or even
well, dare I mention that dirty word ‘cash’ to make actually running the shop on ITSY I think it is worth while! Take care and I am still waiting agh! ;-) mrbluenun
