Thank you so much for watching! xx
her voice is so soothing and sweet
Bedroom voice...😍
Her eyes are also very kind. It sounds weird but she’s one of the few people I love looking at her eyes
Love her accent!
I like her , a lot.
I checked another clip on this topic and found it stressful, as the content creator was yelling and talking so fast. So yes, this is informative and not stressful.
I would also recommend not quitting your day job while you build your business! The pressure of making money to pay your bills when you're just starting out.... can burn you out incredibly quick. I very quickly discovered that and ended up getting myself a part-time job while building my business/second shooting etc. Could use my part-time job to pay for my bills, and the money I earned from photography was reinvested back into my business through buying gear etc. Especially with wedding photography - the gear requirements for a wedding are large compared to photographing something like family portraits.
Yes this is really important!! I used to work as a retoucher in a studio while I was trying to get my photography business up and running. Eventually you will start booking enough jobs and see a growth in your business so you'll know when it feels right to quit your day job and go full time with photography. Thanks for mentioning that 😊
Being the second shooter worked best for me as a part-time photographer, I have the oportunity to learn new things and improve my skills. Art direction is something that a lot of people overlook and I’m glad I have the oportunity to learn more and more almost on a daily basis, plus getting paid to do so ain’t a bad thing 😊
Thanks for your tips Julia, you’re truly one of my favorites 😘
Love from Brazil.
Thank you so much! And yes, being a second shooter is actually a great way of making photography a part-time job :D
Hi Julia, I just discovered your photography a few weeks ago and have seen ten or so of your YT programmes. I have enjoyed them all, and found new nuggets of wisdom in each of them but I particularly liked this one! Thank you for sharing your valuable experiences and your tips which I found really useful; it's very generous of you and I really appreciate it. please keep at it!!!
This video is like a full time course done on how to start and be a photographer. So many helpful tips and your personal experience, that's what makes it more effective.
As someone who already has a career (which I'm not giving up) and wants to pursue photography as a "paid hobby" (first camera ever is going to be my Christmass gift to myself), I really, really enjoyed this video. Thank you!
PS: I've been binge-watching your channel for the past few days. This isn't the first video I feel like I should thank you for. Great stuff!
Thank you! And how exciting with your new camera coming soon :D
Great video! I did a volunteer gig for an event locally and before I did the event the company asked me to take photos the day before for the setup of the event! Was my first paid gig! It also helped to get my name and work out there as I gave all my business cards to people at the event, and the company credited me for the work! 1.5 million potential clients! I know it wont happen overnight. But one day I hope to just photograph as a job! I love doing it!
I found your channel about a month ago, and have been binge watching. You give great advice, have stunning photos, well done videos and B-Roll. Very engaging. Congratulations on your success! Happy shooting!
Fall in love. With ur voice and ur eyes....
Thanx for sharing the knowledge. N this video is very helpful. luv from India.
i knew it that you would love hearing from us:D
hi, it's me again, I'm so inspired by your videos!
i was around 15 when i was interested in photography, now I'm 16
and really are into it! just like you back then, trying to learn all the things to become
a good photographer like you.
This was so helpful! I am a fashion and small business photographer in the states. I’m still working some details out for what exactly I want to offer. I think this helped give me some clarity 💕
a very inspring video Julia…if only I was younger and looking at a career in photography…. but I‘ll keep it as a passion and hobby for now
A really sincerely and serious video about opportunities and chances. Thank you!
Seriously, I feel like any questions I have you usually have a video for it. Its amazing and am truly grateful that you are doing what you're doing! Keep it up 😍
Thanks julia for sharing value information about how to be with our passion every time
Very useful ideas .. 👌👌thanks for sharing Julie 👍🤝
Ur voice makes me feel at home ... I'm greatful to see u talk ♥️
just starting out with photography as a hobby, enjoying your videos, very informative. Thank you
Thank you so much for this video! I'm very interested in Photography and I think that is what I want to do. Thanks again!!!
Thank you very much for sharing your knowledge and experience with us. It is very much inspiring. I loved it. Expecting more from you.
God! I can't stop watching your videos! Thank you!
One of the few photographers on youtube I actually trust.
Hi Julia! Thanks for the video! Just picked up my first mirrorless camera (Sony a7 III w. kit lens). Did my first portrait/landscape shoot yesterday and applied many of your shooting styles / tips in my shots, and they came out wonderful! Hoping to start a side business shooting weddings, portraits, model portfolios, and work my way up to professional shoots. Would be honored to be your second shooter! -Cheers, Rob
Amazing tips Julia! How many pictures do you try to deliver per project? What helps you determine this?
WOAH - “10 years or so”?? I thought you were like 20 years old MAX haha!
she should make a video on how to age well lol
Hahaha you guys are too kind!! I started really young, when I was 16!
thanks for the helpful tips. I actually was just thinking of asking someone to let me be their wedding photography assistant..but still wedding photography kinda freaks me out :0
Glad you liked it :) As an assistant you don't really have all that pressure of the main wedding photographer which is a nice way to ease into it. Once you have a system down and you're comfortable with your cameras and back up equipment (harddrives, etc) weddings are so much fun to capture!
Nice video. I am actually running businesses within something completely different. The idea of jumping the boat on photography has always been there, but after inheriting my fathers canon 5D IV and a few really great lenses the idea came to life even more so. This was very inspiring to me. Thanks!
Very nice photography journey. Very useful information for start up photographers. Having two websites are pretty cool clear idea. Thank you!
Thanks for sharing your knowledge and tips, really helpful.
Thank you for the tips! Gives me more motivation to go out and shoot :)
Fantastic pointers . Many thanks
Yes Julia, I found this video very helpful as I do all your videos. I just did a free portrait shoot for a friend this past weekend. I used your photography tips and came away with many great images. Peace
Ahh that makes me so happy to hear! 💛
Excellent video! Thanks for the insight and advice.
TY!!! Such great information you’re so lovely to watch thank you so much.
I worked love to know more about the fashion photography and model portrait shoots
Thank you so much for all the information. I really love taking photos and have always wanted to start my own business and you have given the advice that I have need to push me to actually want to start doing it
Thank you so much, best of luck!! It's a lot of work running your own business but very rewarding as well 💛
I love watching your videos Julia. You really help me realize that I am on the right path! I am shooing my first commercial shoot this weekend, and I never did that. Looking forward to trying something new!
Wow! Pentax K100D was my first camera as well. Awesome!
That is a great point - I said yes to everything involving holding a camera too. I wanted to try it all! :)
Thanks Julia for amazing tips and being so honest, great video :)
Thanks for the advice in this video. Really good. I'm at that point now where I'm looking to take as many portraits as possible with friends and family, to get that practice and experience
Thanks for this awesome video! And yeah the quote by Casey is just right... :) I personally started shooting weddings as a second shooter couple weeks ago.. And you can learn lots of new things doing that! ;)
I have not started uploading my pictures online, however, I have been leaning towards uploading these pictures online. I needed to see a video like this that mentioned everything you said. Continue the great work thank you so much!!!! 😊
Thank you!
Great Tips this mostly apply to any creative field and it's good to experiment with different style. Great video as always !
Hi Julia. Awesome video. I know it's been about 5 years since you did it but I just recently started to go pro in my photography field.
I really appreciate your videos and knowledge of photography. Thank you so much. God bless. Hope you get this message. Bill.
Very helpful! I’m actually taking some people’s senior pics this summer and I’m pumped!
I really love this! I like hearing you talk in depth about these topics.
Thank you!
well done and very well put...👍🏼
Added to favorite! Many good advices in this one, I'll have to listen back to it. Thank you Julia!
Love this Julia!! thank you so much for sharing this!! Much love
This was extremely helpful! I'm so happy I came across your videos. Everything you say is so accessible, and your advice always rings true. Sharing your journey has helped me map out a clearer path to my photography goals on several fronts. Just wanted to say thanks! Keep em coming :)
Thanks for the useful tips
Hey Julia!! ...nobody teaches this and it's soooo frustrating to me. I know my way around a camera pretty well, but some of these more technical types of tricks and effects are things I still have yet to conquer and really figure out. THANK YOU soooo much for doing this for us!! I would sure give the world for you to also do a couple of videos teaching us how to photograph sparkler exits, light trails with wedding reception dance photos, how to photograph those cigar smoke photos of the guys on wedding day, and how to get that hair spray shot when the bride is getting ready. I'd also love to learn how to do some of those trick photos that so many of you do on wedding days - the reflection, shooting through things, bokeh lights, ring shots with an extra fun flair, etc. A super fun photographer that does a lot of this stuff is Jason Martin with Concept Photography. This guy has some super cool photography tricks and effects and I still have yet to figure out how he does a lot of them.
Hi Julia, First of all i really want to thank you for the advices you give in each of your video, *sharing your knowledge* and passion in the photography industry is really inspiring for small creators like me !
Also, i see that you shoot a lot of your portraits / model session only with the sunlight and your amazing 35mm f1.4 but as a beginer i'm feeling that i could only do great stuff with a lot of gear to help my workflow ( reflector, led pannel, prism, nd filters, backup camera, 4 or 5 lenses, etc) so my question is : Did you realize that you could get all you need with one camera and one lens ( when you are not comparing the canon and sony bodies) and also, do you still bring a bag full of gear / stuff to be prepared just in case, on the set or do you just grab your camera and your 35mm and go meet the model ? I don't know if you will answer me, but anyway, thanks a lot for what you have already shared with us ! See you soon !
loveeeeeeee ur vids so helpful
Thanks a lot for your kind answer 💙
Thank you so much! When I first started in photography, I didn't have much so I made it work with what I did have - a camera and one lens! Eventually, I started experimenting with lighting, more lenses, reflectors, flashes, etc and realised for my personal work - I preferred natural lighting best. But I definitely still incorporate everything I learnt throughout those years into my workflow now. I shoot with a variety of lenses depending on what I need to capture, I always have backup gear even if I'm just doing a fun free shoot, I use flashes at weddings, I do studio shoots sometimes for clients and I always keep a reflector in my car just in case haha. But I like to keep things as simple as possible because I like my photos to look as natural as possible :)
Hi Julia, thank you for your kind answer.
So i guess it's normal to have some gear with us on the shoot even if we finally only use one camera body and one lens and only natural light.. See you soon !
.
This was so useful! Thank you Julia!!!
Thanks for sharing Julia!
Love these videos. I'm wondering what you use for a website? What helps with marketing?
Thank you for the tips ❤️❤️❤️. I really needed some guidance on this topic...
Girlllllllllllllll!!!!!?????? Thank you for this. This has been one of the biggest questions I've had as a burgeoning photographer. As Always, GREAT STUFF

Love this thanks for sharing! Your work is beautiful.
Thank you!
Great video i loved the advice you gave...my issue is just getting myself out there...i think im ready i just have to get more confidence in myself.
That's always a big first step! Everyone has to start somewhere though, so don't be scared to share your work online! Growth is a wonderful thing to see as well :)
Julia Trotti where would be a good place to start?
Your voice is soothing 😊
Love all your videos! Thanks for your advice
Big fan of yours. You are inspirational
Great video.. Come and visit the Philippines.. Come and see the beauty of Banaue Rice Terraces 😊
Absolutely right
Love knowing you also started with a K100D!
I started with the k100D, now I have K1.
Hey Julia! I watch your videos with interest. But I need to translate them to understand. I usually use subtitles with translation, but subtitles are not available on this video. For some reason they are automatically generated in Vietnamese and I cannot apply the translation and read the captions in my language. The settings in the options are locked and do not solve the problem. Most likely the settings were set initially when this video was released. I would like to know what you are talking about in this video. Thank you if you understand me and maybe you can solve this problem with subtitles
Hi Julia, thanks for sharing you experience. So, you took the full autodidact pathway to be a photographer?
This Video was so inspiring! Thank you Julia :)
Love your vids, I'm just starting out photographing weddings, do you have some advices or experiences using flashes in a low light venue, seems like my first wedding will be in that kind of a venue.
Thank you! My best advice is to go out and practice using a flash. Take photos of your pets or family members around the house using flash as that's a really easy one to do and get comfortable with it. You can put your flash on ETTL which means it will automatically change the strength of the flash for better exposed photos. I like to keep my shutter a 1/200, aperture around f2 and my iso around 400ish :)
Julia Trotti thanks a ton, will do :D
Loved this video! Was very helpful and gave me some insight into the photography business - I am still learning and experimenting with my photography at the moment but I have a wedding booked this year that I am shooting that I am super excited for
Thank you and yay that's awesome!! Good luck with the wedding 😄
What an informative vid:) thank you! I have a quick question regarding online portfolios, do you think it's a bad idea to have clients input their email in order to access a collection? I find its a good way to keep track of visitors, but at the same time I'm very conscious it could turn away potential clients? thankyou in advance!
Great video! thank for the insight really look forward to earning some money with my photography!
You're so genuine!..
Would love it if you wouldnt mind sharing details about Photography Contracts for booking you, what your terms and conditions are for Client bookings and Test shoots? :)
I’m so greatful for you, and advices!
It was very helpful, thank you!
I am on my way to build my portfolio and work for a photography business. My problem now, after watching this is what category I should go for. I feel like I would like to do more then a category.
How easy do you find pricing a job? And do you have a contract for clients to sign? Do you require payment in full up front or do you take a deposit eg 50%? And what if your client doesn't like your photos for reasons other than your photography
Hi Julia, I have learned so much from following your channel! Thank you for sharing with us. I just watched your other video on how to build your photography business and I wanted to ask if you could share how you went about becoming a 2nd wedding photographer/assistant for another photographer before you were able to turn your photography into your own full time business. I think it is a brilliant idea to work alongside someone with more experience but I’m not sure how to go about it? Did you just contact them and ask if you could work alongside them? Thank you :)
Love this!
Your real experience is good one
Thank you for your advice I am really trying to figure out how I want to make money, it is so much to figure out🤔👊🏼
Thanks so much for the great tips! And a reminder of the different styles for weddings. I love amateur sports - just editing a provincial volleyball tournament now :) going cross eyed lol
Hi Julia I never lost your vids, these are so interesting with good advices. Thanks a lot. Greetings from Peru 🙋
Thank you! 💛
Hi Julia, i love your work and tips. Thabk you so much your knowledge is helping me become a better photogrpaher. what are the 2 websites to upload your work for feedback?
very helpful video.. thanks
Hi Julia! Loved this vlog episode! Q: what tips do you have for pricing your photography esp when you're just starting out professionally (but have been doing photography for years as hobbyist or smth like that)? Thanks so much!
Thank you so much! I'm going to make a separate video about pricing your photography as that is also another really big topic!
Julia Trotti yaayyy!! Thank you so much! More power to you guys! 😊🌹🌹✨
This is so informative, thank you! I especially love the fashion photog categories. It truly helps clarify areas I've been struggling to understand (jobs within the industry to find my niche). The info is so good though, I wish there were a transcript for all the details! I'm literally sitting here pausing, writing, rewinding & playing over & over just to get everything!! Lol!! Again, thank you so much!!
I love your channel! I am a new subscriber but it’s really great to get clear and down to earth advice from a working professional 🤗
Thank you so much!
you have very inspiring videos. Go on like this
This is really good and Valuable advice! :)
