- The Chenab Bridge is an arch bridge under construction in Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir, which spans the Chenab River between Bakkal and Kauri, . When completed, the bridge will be 1,315 m (4,314 ft) long, with a 480 m (1,570 ft) trussed arch span, 359 m (1,178 ft) above the river Chenab and a 650 m (2,130 ft) long viaduct on the Kauri side.
The Chenab Bridge will be the highest arch bridge in the world, and longest span for a BG rail line with arch span of 480 m (1,570 ft).
My Father (Mr D.K.Kunar) was Project In-charge of this Bridge........ Afcons Doing A challenging Job.....And will finish it with competency..... Afcons is Master in It... I truly admire every word said......GO AFCONS

India's Historical Gratitude to Jammu-Srinagar Capital Shifting - Now EndedIndia's military operations in Kashmir valley in 1947-1948 owe their logistical facilitation to then derelict road between Jammu and Srinagar which came to India after the Accession of the Riyasat of Jammu and Kashmir.This narrow road had wooden bridges etc and was used only twice a year during the biannual shifting of Riyasat's capital between Jammu and Srinagar .The Maharajas of J and K wished avoiding the main highway passing through the territory of the British .for the sake of privacy and hence had got built a simple though dangerously passing across the formidable Pir Panjal mountains . This road was used nearly only twice a year nearly exclusively for carrying Darbar shifting specific traffic. Just before the convoys moved on this road it was repaired in a makeshift manner . Before 1947 the main highway connecting Jammu and Srinagar ran through Sialkot and Muzzafarabad - the Jhelum Road -then under British India's direct control.After Partition of India this went to Pakistan .. In fact during the time delay in Maharaja Hari Singh's decision on Accession of J and K ,Pakistan's military and political leaders would arrogantly boast that Kashmir was in Pakistan's pocket as for even ' one can of kerosene ' the Valley depended on the Sialkot Highway which Pakistan had under her control..Maharaja's special purpose Darbar shifting road which was first used for Indian Army's logistical support to the Valley and connectivity to Ladakh - through the Zoji La Pass .In its constantly upgraded form this erstwhile simple / rudimentary road is , now ,India's main and world standard Highway to Kashmir--------------
Started in 2004, planed to open in 12/2009, cancelled in 09/2008, restarted in 2010, scheduled to be completed in 2015, but postponed
Perhaps it will be the highest railway bridge in the world if it can be completed in 2017, but there are several Chinese high-speed railway lines planned that will contain double-track railway bridges that will surpass Chenab in height in a couple of years.

@@angshusarma4816 I think you're missing a very valid point made by redlandpower. It's the important issue of planning and project management. The Chenab bridge was originally intended to be completed by 2009; latest estimate for completion is 2022; but there's a labour-management dispute going on right now, which may delay completion of the arch by May 2019 (the current target). If this trend continues (a delay of 13 years currently) it may not be the highest railway bridge when it is actually open to traffic. I'm not denying the engineering and construction accomplishments made. But, it is really not a question of different soil, or climate or whatever. Good planning and Project Management should take these into account (from the start).
BTW, China has the next 14 highest railway bridges, from 210 m to 310 m high. I am not aware of any higher bridges in the pipeline. Also, China has 7 road bridges (4 lanes each) from 365 m to 565 m in height.
And, it's not a question of cheapness, but of quality-versus-price. I find Chinese goods to be of very good quality for their price; ~ 40% cheaper than Indian equivalent and no problems with quality; e.g. Electric drills, Coffee makers, Audio speakers ...

Today India completed Chenab Bridge 🇮🇳♥️ 13/8/22
Work of Chenab Bridge is now under progress. There were many hiccups in between Court stays included due to Doubting Thomas es. insisting on changing the alignment and avoiding the bridge altogether in this location. technical issues are mostly sorted out. Abnormal delays are telling on heavy burden financially on the contractors Afcons. Contractual issues for solving financial issues are progress but very slow and can't give any relief to contractors I media tell which also affects the progress. Afcons has to work under heavy -ve cash flow at project site.
