- This is Tenkajin Chiyari's theme
name "Vampiric Cryptid Chupacabra" / "吸血怪獣チュパカブラ"
from Touhou 19 "東方獣王園 〜 Unfinished Dream of All Living Ghost".
Out of all the new characters, this one stand out the most. For obvious reasons.
Her hair is deep shade of purple, yet she wears bland, light green shirt,
her shirt looks like it come from Hecatia's wholesale clothing line and also expensive not because of the fabric but rather for the changeable text on the shirt (it's changed to I ❤️ (Old) Hell in the ending),
that or it was an entirely different shirt (which opens up a new question of how many different shirt with different texts does she have),
her extra attack that literally breaks AI in the story mode and let us win early when we play as her, but also equally brutal when we face her.
There are a lot of memorable things about her, and I can't imagine someone else designing character like this other than ZUN, and that's a dub for him.
Why the face Chiyari?
That face looks like someone that's tired of being called chupacabra when she's not.

I didn't think too much of this theme at first, but it grew on me so fast after I heard it only the fourth time, that main part of the song is weird but very addicting to listen to
(Also I'm convinced that Hecatia sells her type of shirts in hell now)
In Akatsuki Records' World of Nightmares remix, one of the comments pointed out that it sounds like a merch drop for Hecatia's fashion brand. I am now going to assume that's canon.

Chiyari terrifies me. She looks simultaneously like she absolutely reviles you, and like she's taking joy in torturing you.

Apparently, no one really knows what Chiyari is. It's implied that she's really a creature called a mujina, but no one believes that. And she's frequently been called a chupacabra, which she hates, since she thinks the name is weird.
In her route and ending she warms up to the name Chupacabra since Mamizou tells her it's cool.
Her profiles state she's a tenkajin - a blood-drinking flame spirit. Cannot find much more on the youkai though, it seems to be pretty obscure in the western community
@@AzuRemilia apparently tenkajin isn't really a youkai and she just used her last name as a species (explaining why nobody knows what she really is)

Chiyari's gameplay makes me think of her harassing random people with fire.
She quickly became my favorite Touhou character. Very memorable indeed
loved this tune when it first came out
then i had to face against Chiyari over and over because she's unbalanced as fuck and now this song gives me heart palpitations

Jokes aside, Chiyari is a tenkajin, a really, REALLY obscure youkai... which may also explain why people in and out of universe alike are so quick to erroneously call her a chupacabra.
EDIT: So obscure, in fact, that searching "tenkajin youkai" on Google mostly shows Chiyari, and the first picture of a tenkajin proper is from a Tweet describing what Chiyari's based on. This character might just put that youkai on more people's radars, which is cool! And on that note, if she's any type of specific animal, realistically it'd be a badger, but we're already seeing a repeat of what happened with Kyouko where people are going to call her a dog anyway, between the chupacabra comparisons AND the fact she looks like Aunn Alter.
Her horn and tail look like they have scales, so if Chiyari is simplified into being any kind of animal, I'd at least hope she'd be seen as a reptile of some sort. Considering I'm pretty sure she's stated as being some kind of hikkikomori at some point, never leaving the Former Hell of Blood Pools until the events of the game, a reptilian interpretation would go well with that kind of solitary style.
Not that she actually is reptilian, looking at her associations they all seem to be mammalian in nature. I just think it fits her vibe and looks.
I remember googling Tenkajin youkai just after the game released and getting next to no results whatsoever

Hey I have an important question for Lunatic modo? How do you dodge those purple spirt things? I don’t really have much of anything against Chiyari it’s just those spawn-campy purple whatever those things are that she keeps sending out are really annoying. Come to think of it is that normal for tera-whatever that is.

I personally hated fighting Yachie more, especially as the final encounter. Her otters are a menace to society.

@@loafofchihuahua Ikr and if you dare to use your scope near them, my goodness the loitering is a nightmare. Luckily Zanmu's 2nd charge attack converts them into normal yellow spirits (thereby countering Orin's spirits). However it's kinda unfortunate how some characters have it much more rough in certain matchups.
@@loafofchihuahua hi I know this is unrelated to your comment but I’m currently trying to do a Lunatic 1cc of Unfinished Dreams Of All Living Ghosts as Yacchie as of the time of this reply and I remember you giving me helpful advice in previous times when we crossed paths so that’s why i’m asking you this. How do you dodge those Purple Spirt Thingies Chiyari Sends onto your screen? They just spawn in every-which way Including on top of you and can even grow bigger and home in and other things that make them Somehow even more annoying than Emperor Sutokens Spirting Away Into Living Rent Free In My Mind, Which is Immpressive given my history with that. I don’t Even Have Anything Against Chiyari as Character in fact I actually kinda like Chiyari she’s just a silly little Chupacabra-esqe Terawhatever that is that gets her fashion sense from Hecatia, It’s just that those Purple Spirt things that often get spammed in her Extra Attack are just the most annoying Bullets in all of the Animal Realm (which might be a warning sign for when I get to Zanmu given what I’ve heard about her).
@@ultimapower6950 Her EX attacks are basically just unfair, that's the main reason why she's banned in PVP. I usually just try to misdirect the spirits and end the fight as quickly as possible 😅
