  • The dog training world is filled with frauds and abusive individuals that take a lot of money for something they can’t do. When that happens the dog suffers. With that being said there are plenty of amazingly talented and honest trainers out there. Do your homework

I adopted a 10 month old Doberman and he’s now 2 1/2. I have owned hunting beagles for 30 years and trained with e collars mainly on breaking them from off game and obedience in the field. I never owned a guarding breed before and had no idea how to train it. The original owners socialized him very well around dogs and people but his recall, jumping not to good. I looked around for local trainers but just started watching your vids and 3 other trainers and combined them all together and trained this knuckle head. He now walks with me off leash and recall is excellent and other training methods you use. I now have people ask me to train their dog but tell them I’m not a trainer and recommend your page. Unbelievable how smart Dobermans are!! Thanks for all your information and hope to meet you in person.

Man before I found Larry, there were a couple trainers I definitely "latched onto", but after a month or two I realized I truly wasn't making any progress.
It wasn't until I saw a random video of a bald guy with a beard going on a rant about backlash he was getting on Facebook that I really started to build a solid connection with my dog. And yes, I'm talking about Larry 🙂
Before I adopted my dog last year, I had absolutely no idea what I was getting myself into - after a dna test I realized why I was having such difficulty getting through to my dog with a lot of the standard methods other trainers use (he's a mix of cattle dog/beagle/foxhound/sheep dog/husky). As a dog sitter who has new dogs at my house constantly, my dog was getting out of hand, and fast. I honestly almost gave up, and I can tell you full-heartedly that if it weren't for Larry, I wouldn't have been able to continue meeting new clients who needed their dogs to board at my house. I'm not talking puppy issues, I mean there was a clear progression of very serious behavioral issues.
My dog is now 1.5 years old and he's fully off-leash, which is a really big deal to me. There's still so much to learn and teach my dog, but I doubt I'd be where I'm at with him if it weren't for the things I learned from Larry. When I adopted a lot of his methods, I was seeing results that weren't just quick, short-term fixes, but have proven to be long-term resolutions that have allowed my dog and I to build quite a solid bond. Thanks Larry

I like how we get to access all of the years of experience and wisdom of amazing trainers online. Sadly there is a lot of people who think they know everything after they've been around dogs for 5 mins. It seems that if someone is good at social media they get more influential than they should be. It's all about the platform,. Not the best for dog and person. This guy is one of the good ones and I'm happy that I am able to learn from his years of experience

I’m seeing and hearing about abuse happening with so-called dog trainers a lot lately. Question is, what can we do to prevent it?
Anyone can hang a sign out, and claim to be a professional dog trainer! No regulations in place. Some people shouldn’t even own a dog, let alone “train” someone else’s. It seems to me, people are jumping aboard because there’s big money to be made in this business, not because they love to work with dogs….

These are usually some of the very high level trainers who work with high level working dogs. Even if you want to just help people with “regular” dogs, spending time and learning from them will prepare you to deal with pretty much everything.

So much of what I’m seeing today on social media is disgusting on so many levels…that for the first time in 20 years, I’m so turned off by the majority of trainers I see on-line. Whether it’s posting shit only for bait click, or bickering about other trainers and methods, or absolute abusively bad low-class language, I’m pretty much over it all.

I'm going to give Haz credit for this, he said once "be a dog training Pirate" and if you want to be a good dog trainer that's probably the best advice you can take to heart. That and make sure the people your learning from have actual real world accomplishments. Dogs are not all the same, they don't all learn the same, they are not all motivated the same. I've seen trainers, good trainers fail a dog because they are good with a TYPE of dog but not have the tools in a the box to deal with a dog outside of that type. The dog trainer EGO that Larry is speaking about is nothing new, its been in the sports world forever and I think it's rooted in, if I give you my knowledge then I own your accomplishments. I can't tell you how many times I've heard, "I taught that person before they knew how to hold a leash." If you learn from just one guy, a shadow of that guy is all you'll ever be.

      @thankmelater1254 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@alisha_madariaga Yes, I have watched that video. Because I have gained from watching Larry I was disappointed that Ivan approached it as an opposition lawyer might, concentrating on the one issue of acclimating the dog to the ecollar on low level to learn how to turn it off by obeying a clearly known command.
I've found that both methods can be useful, but I agree with Ivan mostly, in that it should be used to save the dog from a deadly behavior on high level when nothing else will do, because dogs become inured to training level usage and will, for example, resist it for enough time to be able to gobble down a nice rotten carcass.
Larry can get a dog to obey under such conditions as a full on chase of a wild animal, but I couldn't with a dog I adopted with ingrained hunting habit.
I needed a combo that took me a year to find. It was "NO free FOOD at home" and only food on good recalls under chase conditions, to get really good fast recall, and backed up by high level stopping power when the urge to chase was too strong.
Then the dog got freedom to run and not get lost from chasing and chasing.
I never forbid him from chasing but I required he return to me on whistle command.
Larry shows and explains, Ivan gives incredible insights you might not even notice without paying very close attention.

@@alisha_madariaga This is an example of how much trouble I had with my adopted dog. I had noticed a pigeon carcass on the pavement for a few summer days getting driven over by cars and it was split in half. One night walking him on leash there was an out of control dog and his owner on our path so I walked my dog around them right into the carcass which I forgot about. My dog grabbed it up like a maniac and I grabbed his jaws trying to get him to release but he fought like a demon as he crunched it and swallowed the half pigeon.

I don't think this issue to strictly a dog training thing. Humans like to feel that they're in the right and they have the best information. Confirmation bias kicks in. In group vs out group kicks in. You see this in all aspects of human cultures and subcultures that focus on extremes: dog training, religion, dietary choices, parenting, sexuality. It's not all about what's good and what's bad. Humans like go off feelings first and then support themselves with whatever reasoning fits their narrative. Holding this against them is like holding the desire of a dog against it. Humans like think you're superior, but we're still just animals.

That's interesting. Imma write a comment book, and give my thoughts and impressions, because ultimately my thoughts and impressions don't really matter .... They're just me. I'm disabled ... So ...... I have no money, am about to fight for disability, so I can go back to school and be a counselor, before my arthritis gets too severe. I've lost the ability to work with aggressive dogs, because of my disabilities. I'm 26. So for me? Any jerk who thinks they need to insult people for not traveling, or making out like everyone has the ability to do what you did with travelling, shows me that person is short sighted in specific areas of humanity, and can't put themselves in other people's shoes or automatically assumes negative things from simple statements like will you come to my town ... If I ever asked that, it'd be because I can't travel much, it's not safe for me to travel alone, and why should I risk harm, risk my finances when I'm already unable to get a job due to my genetics (started working as soon as I was legally able to, couldn't finish school, now I'm fighting for disability (which is more than money) so I can fight to be more self sufficient again). I watch a lot of trainers, because I intend on training a service dog myself still, even though it's no longer safe for me to train big ol angry mastiffs. It shows a lot about someone's character to act like everyone is physically or financially able to pay for or make the travel happen, and resorts to swearing and name calling... Really weird takes in this video, super aggressive for no good reason or context given, lack of understanding for situations you have likely not been in, and you talk about cockiness and whatnot, but speak in a way that absolutely would be labeled as egotistical and heavily opinionated and cocky at many points..... Despite not wanting others to be that way?
You also say don't talk about people negatively, but you've admitted to talking about people negatively. You say you're not always right, but you're telling people what's what, because you know? It's hypocritical and just a bit odd. You do throughout the video what you claim not to. You named trainers you like, but you also complained a lot and never named names like you said you hate other trainers not naming names when it's negative but you did the same.
I've watched a lot of decent trainers on here. IDK why I was suggested this video, it's been a wild ride, it showed a LOT of hypocrisy, a lot of wild aggressive opinions without context, a lot of complaining without naming names, with brief moments of great words, and then right back to ranting about nameless trainers outside positive ones. I've got a lot of questions and no answers from this video. I am very clearly not your target audience. 😂
My take on other trainers? Learn what you can learn. If someone's a bad trainer, learn what not to do, and look introspectively at yourself to make sure you're not doing the same stuff. Watch trainers in all walks of life, all aspects of training, learn about the different tools and methods, and never stop learning. Be responsible, and don't charge for something you can't deliver. Be humble, so you can learn and learn from everyone. I think there's way too much drama in the dog training world, and I try to learn what I can, and move on if they're toxic or whatever, and attempt to ignore the drama. I recommend most people ignore the drama. That's always been my take, and it felt a bit like what maybe the point of the video is?
But hey, maybe what I just said doesn't apply to what this trainer was saying, idk. Again it felt like there's a lot of back and forth in this video, but hot dawg, the ending advice to invest in yourself, bettering yourself, that ending was great. Again not sure I'm the intended audience here. Thus ends my TH-cam book writing experience.

You maybe justly angry at the trainers you have mentioned but this is a public domain and there is no need for foul language. There is enough of it about without a public figure encouraging it.
Take a step back and think about it before you rant. With that aside I applaud you bringing these sham trainers out in the open. As a dog owner I find it very difficult to find a creditable one especially being outside the US

"I'm gonna name names!" Proceeds to not name people. "I guess the point is that you shouldn't just believe someone is bad because someone says they are!" But the entire video is just Larry vaguely talking about bad trainers with no evidence or examples.

@@Tech-ww9fw Well, he names a few people repeatedly that he approves of (like Ivan or Bart), but that's not what I'm referring to. I'm talking about him acting like he's boldly calling out people by name when he does the exact opposite. There is one 5 second period out of 23 minutes where he names Jeff Gellman and Sean O'Shea and that's it, literally. He doesn't even elaborate on his issue with them, either.

@@jerimiah_y Hmmm, perhaps? I listened to the whole thing and then parts of it again and don't recall him mentioning Zac George ever. It must've been very brief if he talked about him at all.
