If he goes to India every year, can’t he see the improvement in front of his eyes?! No country is perfect , but India has been developed so much in every aspect! That is the reality. Plus the India government never really forbids him get into India , what does that tell you?
There certainly might be situations where the police show apathy. But you have to realise that conservative families prohibit the girls/women from venturing out alone even during day times in some parts of rural India. But the situation is certainly not the same in the metropolitan cities with a lot of girls/women in the workforce. There is this unwritten rule of avoiding certain areas of trouble and/or troublesome people and going to the police is the last resort. It is unfortunate that you hold an unsolved cold case memory that seems to be bothering you. Unfortunately Eastern cultures, especially in India do not prefer to talk about controversial topics unless of course there is a big time profit angle to the same. Just to give you some advice. You ought to research the number of rapes that are either not reported or hushed up involving sports athletes in USA schools/colleges to prevent a generational reputational damage to the school sports program. Sports is big time money in the USA. NCAA sports is as big as it gets in college sports anywhere in the world.
As an Indian myself I can confirm that Jayant Bhandari is 100% correct in his assessment of India....I know many Westerners might feel that he is exaggerating but he is 100% correct

It seems like there’s a lot of self-criticism happening. While much of what’s being said is true, it applies to most European or Western countries, just to varying degrees. What surprised me is that the speaker only focused on the symptoms, not the root causes behind them. It would have been more interesting to hear their thoughts on what exactly leads to these kinds of issues.

I am Chinese, raised in the UK and actively lived in India between 2010-2020 & did business with local ultra rich crooks in india. Well, the entire talk is a giant spouting of pent up emotions on the degraded state of indian society and culture. There is no analysis of the causes for the poor state of affairs that prevails. There is also no suggestion or hint of any solutions to the problem. This is understandable given that the speaker does not state any underlying reasons for the rot in indian culture. So, now allow me a hearing for my own thoughts on the matter. Everyone is welcome for discussion and debate. 1. "India is devoid of rational and scientific temper which is an exclusively western discovery." Well, we may safely agree that the scientific method was first discovered in europe by ionian (greek) natural philosophers and by scientists like galileo and newton during the renaissance. But to say that rational temper has at present and also in the past no footing in India is an exaggeration at best. With the greeks, indian society is the only one where logic was discovered and pursued as a subject. Why did we need logic ? For effective inter-religious dialogue and debate between hindus, buddhists, jains, sikhs, lingayats etc. Entire systems of indian philosophy (The Nyaya and the Vaisheshika) did valuable work on argumentation, syllogisms etc. One may say, "how many people read nyaya and vaisheshika philosophy nowadays?" That is a part of the problem... But anyhow, it is a reasonable supposition to say that the society which was among the first to pursue logical investigations in philosophy is more than capable of learning and applying the scientific method in the endeavour to expand our knowledge. We only need to educate each other for that with the passage of time. 2.) "Indian society was and is amoral". The society that produced and was in turn closely influenced by people like gautama buddha, vardhaman mahavir, raja ram mohan roy etc. was not amoral. Why did India produce more religions and religious sects than any other country in the world. When Christ taught compassion, he was crucified by the romans. The Buddha did the same in India and died peacefully in bed surrounded by his disciples. Was it because we were amoral back then? But what about our present day state of affairs ? Surely something has gone wrong, has it not? Yes. That will be the content of my next comment.
I also love western ideas , especially libertarianism of smith,mises,hobbes, rothbald etc but I don't be slave to west and sell my soul to criticize homeland. There exists many worst things here, but I won't Leave like coward i will fix it
