The rap style that Jay Z is using was a pretty popular rap style at that time. Even Big L would do a version of this style off and on in the early 90s. Peace Peace to You.I know of what You are talking about 4real.I was back in The 80's.I remember when a Freestyle was considered a Rhyme that might of been already Written. But not necessarily structured for a Song.Or just Free of any particular Style. But as The Art of Rhyming Manifested! Even in The 80's! Freestyling Quickly became Off The Top Free Lance Rhyming as well.I remember when I first really started hearing the actual Word "Freestyle".Was back in 79', 80'.And it was more pertaining to "BMX" Motor Bikes and Bicycle Dirt and Course Riding and Jumping. Then soon after! Pavement Trick Riding Blew up.Then This kind of Young Peoples Hip-Hop sounding Dance Music called "Electro Hip-Hop".Became known as "FREESTYLE" Music. Thanks The Word "Freestyle" in regards to The Hip-Hop World of MCin wasn't really used like that back then as it is prominently used now.I didn't actually really start Hearing It used in Rapping until maybe "KOOL MOE DEE".I think! But most Definitely "RAKIM".Then suddenly Kids in The Neighborhoods every where was saying "Hey Yo Bust a Freestyle". Where as during "RUN-DMC" and "FAT BOY'S" prominence.People would say! " Hey Yo Drop a Rhyme one Time for Me".Or if Someone would Rhyme! And The listener is liking what They're Hearing. Then They would say! "But Man let Me Hear a Long Rhyme".Or something to that effect. These were just some examples of My Personal experiences.I don't even think too many House Hold Named Rappers really even used The Word "Freestyle" like that to begin with. That would be an excellent Homework Assignment for all do called Hip-Hop Heads to do.Go back as far as "GRAND MASTER CAZ" And "GRAND MASTER MELLE MEL".And work Your way Forward. And I'm not trying to Debate You Bro. I'm just Breaking Bread with You and offering My version and view of My and personal account of My Observations.Keep in Mind too Brotha! There May be more Hip-Hop Books and Documentaries to come out with New to many but old Information to Alot of People.Because much of Hip-Hop as We knew it back then or know it now.Has alot of Information that simply was not included.I must say that as a Collective Community. We could have done a much better job in The Documenting Department. But just like much of Black Peoples World History is still Hidden and lost.Much can still be Found about Our Hip-Hop History.

Off the Top/Dome is an unprepared impromptu on the spot rhyme and many people confuse freestyles and off the dome as the same thing they're two different concepts
Retrokidbk83 Hey check it out Cuz!
Let's Get This In A Museum‼
THEM VHS CAMERA DAYS!
Miss the old school rap battles
People gotta realize this is before illmatic and Ready to Die….in 93’ if someone came up to u rapping like this, with their own unique style it was pretty impressive. It’s like comparing a smartphone to the first cell phones. No one was saying them big clunky ass cell phones that hardly ever had service were trash when they hit the market. BIG & Nas made every east coast MC step their shit up, just like Apple did with cell phones
why didnt you rip this instead of recordin it with your phone ?
This is a Freestyle in NO FUCKING WAY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! How the fuck is another man finishing his bars ?
Lmfao 😂
Y’all talking shit but do ya’ll Fool’s even notice the DETERMINATION To WIN in Jiggas whole body movements and in the intense Eye contact that he’s making with his intended opponent?? Smh. This man REFUSED to lose even Back then! Y’all ain’t gonna peep it though. 🤦🏽♂️ Keep doing what ya’ll do.
JIGGA IS THE 🐐 🔥
before SMACK DVD or URL
Wayyyyyyy before😂😂😂look how much it evolved now. Jay-Z should of had personals and schemes😭😭😭
I always thought his style back then was whack. Nite and day from then til now. He was rapping to fast with that stuttering shit. Big L was the baddest back then. He was filthy!
Is it a battle if you have a hype man finishing your rhymes like sentences
You can tell Jay was getting annoyed. Like “Calm down my guy I got this”
