I got to admit, the story of the elder days and the lost land of Beleriand has the most beautiful fantasy stories ever, LOTR has no match... And its so special its takes you on when you read or listen to it, i wish i will be one of the people to bring this alive making movies about the Elder days, years of the tree and The war of the wrath, the picture will be so Beautiful, Gondolin, Doriath, Aman ... Men of the west you doing an amazing job...
The whole scene where Luthien singing to Mandos and moves him to pity is a great homage to Orpheus who traveled to Hades in Greek Mythology to bring back his wife from the dead and creates such a lovely tune that moves Hades to pity (although Hades gives Orpheujs a deal that he and his wife may leave Hades but Orpheus cannot turn back to look at her until they leave the realm of Hades, but at the last moment, feeling/thinking that Hades might've tricked him, Orpheus turns back and see's that it was his wife but she is brought back to Hades)
And it was partly inspired by the time Edith danced for him in a hemlock glade in Yorkshire. After her death, he wrote to his son, "The tale has gone crooked, and I am left, and I cannot entreat before inexorable Mandos."
given all the war, darkness and despair strewn throughout the legendarium you wouldn't expect to find a story so happy but as Sam said "there is some good in this world."
Same here. I'm at work and this story always make me tear up a little. Thankfully, all my collegues are away on training, and I am alone in the office.
It is indeed an epic tale of love and loyalty, and so very well put together and narrated. Thank you so very much for a tale well told and a story worth the telling.
Hey comrade, thank you so much for covering my favourite piece of Tolkien's work, I remember crying in the middle of the night after reading that story and staying up all night thinking about the bittersweet taste of our mortal condition and the undying nature of love. Happy hobbit day.
After I gave my fortress to Luthien, I didn't returned back to Angband because I afraid of Morgoth. He was very disappointed to me and he could punish me

Greatest story ever told ❤ When love came down and brought mortal and divine; heaven and earth together May we all find such a treasure in this life Thank u very much Mr Tolkien 🙏🏼
I can understand feanors wrath and dismay at the valars arrogance at feanors silmarils but the noldor messed up big time at the kinslaying. Unforgivable!!! The oath of feanor is a big statement for free will but it could all have been avoided if the valar intervened. I understand Tolkien's decision to write it this way. It's epic story telling at its finest. Great job brother! You are appreciated✌ HUAN LIVES!!!
This has to be the greatest love story in any fiction work that I have come across. I hope Amazon will adapt this and thus give it the visuals and acting that such a story deserves. Your storytelling is a treasure in itself in these videos.
Watched this again after the end of Rings of Power. This re telling was so much better than the show, really made me cry and feel for the story. Well done!
This tale I consider the absolute best Standalone adaptation of a movie that could be made from Tolkien's work....If done with GREAT care that is......You have a go at a perfectly balanced 4 hour epic one off with the greatest story and premise you can think of...
Nice it’s here! I can’t wait for your next video! Been here since around 50k and I’ll be here at 1 Mil! Congrats on 200k Edit: Oh my god I got a heart! That just made my day! Can’t wait for lotro!
Wonderful video, my friend! So glad that you worked on this one, as I have absolutely enjoyed the tale of Beren and Lúthien as I grow older, and will probably continue to enjoy it more and more. Awesome work as always!
Your videos are always a great way to start my week off Monday mornings, though I will say listening to this one at work may have been a mistake as it's very touching, especially near the end. Thank you Yoystan for your hard work as it helps me maintain my humanity and spirit in this otherwise crazy, cynical times we live. Also, Huan is best boy.
Fantastic video! Really enjoyed the summarising of Beren & Luthian, possibly the greatest love story of all time! Thank you very much for all your videos
I'm fairly new here, but I'd like to thank you for your content. It's inspired me to acquire and read more of the legendarium, starting with The Silmarillion. I'm sure you get plenty of these kinds of comments, but I still wanted to send my own thanks for the inspiration.
I have never been a fan of love stories, but man this one got me. This is a beautiful tale, because the heart of the author is the driving force of the story. And in this case, it is The Professors dear Luthien, who in the common tongues name is: Edith Tolkien. Great job at doing the story justice!
Breathtakingly beautiful. I feel like Tolkien is constantly (deservedly) praised for being an epic fantasy writer, and while we all love his ability to create beautiful locations and epic wars with amazing characters, he doesn't get enough appreciation for his ability to write about love. This tale may just be the most poignant and stunning of all. An eternal life of bliss and happiness alone doesn't compare to being with your true love, even if it's for a limited time.
Thank you for your valuable and clear videos! I am still selfquaranteening and am listening to them all again! Your American voice and prounciations are so soothing!!
Amazing! I'm so happy I've found myself enjoying Tolkiens works all over again... Even the comments have people fighting the fights of middle earth... It's brilliant, what a community ha
Great video. One of the best tales showing the power of love and how instrumental it is in our daily life. I love Tolkien honestly, the final fact about the grave was really sweet.
I watched this video when I came out while I was on a LOTR lore binge. Checked out quite a few of your vids sense then and was hooked. Your vids are detailed, yet so easy to understand and get invested. Thanks for your insight and research into Tolkien’s incredible work.
Dreamwork or Disney - I hope neither of them will ever lay hands on the work of Tolkien, if you don't want recent lifestyle politics to govern the script.
Maybe Amazon will do it if their venture into the second age is successful..... It would be good to see the three main first age tales told, Beren and Luthien, The Children of Hurin and The Fall of Gondolin.
I just made a little imagine on my mind. For Disney it has many princesses just like yazzmin,Cinderella, snow white,Ariel, megata, rapunzel so if they bring Luthien on this list that could be awesome,I don't Think that Disney bring politic massages on animations
If you think about it, Beren and Luthien basically saved Middle Earth. Without the Silmaril, their granddaughter Elwing won't be able to used it to convince the Valar to send their armies to fight Morgoth.
Luthien is by far the greatest of all female characters in Tolkiens works... None even come close... And I don't think there's none greater than Beren as well... I would give away half of my soul to have a woman like Luthien...
