Glad this Long Drive guy got to show off his suprisingly good short game.
It would surprise me if all these guys did was just drive the ball and never play golf, even recreationally.
They could have been golfers first who then realised they had a gift for driving the ball. He could still be above average around a course.
@@notmenotme614 Quite a few of the long drive competitors actually play. Kyle, the reigning champ played in college and is a scratch golfer. The issue with hitting ball a mile is that it gets hard to control the landing point on courses that require positioning which is why you won't see many compete on tours.

That pitch mark was as deep as a crater on the Moon, which is probably where the drive landed.
For me as a former greenkeeper, it was nice to see him do it properly and not try to pry out the roots.
As the viewer of this video, I would have liked to see the flight of the ball.
Probably extremely high, I saw Vijay Singh hit a high draw at southern hills PGA championship in Tulsa 2007, and I swear that ball was in the sky for 15 seconds

They probably don't have the equipment to do so. In golf games, they use very special and expensive camera for those zoom tracking shots

He made it very clear on the video that he's not about being a Tour player. He is showing what is possible when a ball is hit that far. It's not about "playing" golf...it's entertaining and pretty cool at that! Kudos to those that admired his short game skill anyway.
Every time he swings I feel like he shortens his life by a little. Like using a super move that takes off a sliver of life.

I like how they got him to finish the hole instead of just leaving after the drive, made the video much better.
Surprisingly good touch around the green. It's putting several good rounds together under pressure that separates the tour pros.
The par 4 18th at the club I grew up at was similar (MacGregor Downs). You had to go over water either way, but there was the short way or the long way. Back in 1973 they held the U.S. Professional Matchplay Championship along with the Ligget & Myers Open stroke play tournament at MacGregor Downs (I was 12 and had just started playing golf one year earlier). The top 8 leaders on the money list were exempt into the matchplay tournament and the top 8 on the leaderboard after 2 days of the Ligget & Myers Open got the other 8 open spots. The stroke play tournament continued on Sat & Sun concurrently with the matchplay tournament. I remember following Jack Nicklaus during a practice round and his caddie Angelo Argea told him he didn't think Jack could carry it long enough to go the long way (it's about a 280 carry which was pretty far in 1973). Jack teed it up and cleared the water by about 10 yards on his first try.

The flyover doesn't start back at the men's regular tee or the championship tees. They are elevated and much further back than where the drone started in this video. The men's tee is about a 250 carry and the championship tee is about a 280 carry. If you hit it left or right by about 10 yards of where you are aiming the carry gets significantly longer, so it takes accuracy as well as distance.

She sheer speed and power of his swing is incredible. At the bottom of his swing his left foot is off the ground with all of his weight on the back foot. His hip turn on the down swing is very quick and powerful. Hypothetically, and magically if I swung one time as fast and powerful as him , relative to my normal swing speed and power, it's possible that I would have torn ligaments and a thrown hip.

If you pause the video at 3:10 you can see that the clubhead ends up IN FRONT of his waist when he completed his swing. Thats AMAZING!
It takes more brain power than people think to drive 350+ yards. Most of the guys are pretty smart. Conclusion: smart enough to also develop a good short game.

I don't know if you can call it "normal". I've seen online that he uses 4.5 degrees. 8-11 would be considered normal by most people.
Long drive competitors use "normal" drivers too. Their shaft limit is 48" just like the PGA shaft limit.

Funny watching this after Bryson came close to driving that same green in the Arnold Palmer Invitational last week. March 4-7, 2021. He did win the tournament.
There's a long drive guy near me and I challenged him to drive a par 5 I estimated at 360 if you cut out of bounds over a bean field. He finally agreed,but the summer he was going to try it the course closed down.

I watch this and I played alot of golf , I also grew up with a awesome old man that was a golden glove champ , he made me learn to box at a very young age, I see this man turn and how fast he releases his hips ? This man would be a devastatin puncher . Jesus

Pretty cool to see someone do something that wasn't even possible in a video game lol. I remember playing Tiger Woods golf on Playstation (don't remember which year) and on this hole the best you could hope for was to land the ball on the fairway leading up to the green.

I'm confused. On the final drive, the QC Quad said it carried 406 yards. But it says it's only 387 to the pin...and his ball ended up below the pin. So...that math doesn't add up.
Jacob Sever it’s 387 to carry the water. Not to the flag. 406 carry would be 19 yards further then the edge of the water. So it makes sense.

Vídeos like this contradict themselves all the time. PGA is also responsible for this kind of misleading distances. I would take everything with a grain of salt.
Quad also known to be more inaccurate than trackman, doesn't take into account wind chiefly. So I'd believe laser distance to the pin more.
Don't get me wrong, this is super impressive, but none of those were eagles unless we're playing 3+ Mulligan's a hole.
