Your analysis of the character motivations and flaws in arcane is phenomenal! ALL THE CHARACTERS ARE FLAWED! Yes even Ekko as ‘The Boy Saviour’ struggles with the need to help as many Zaun refugees at the cost of his own well-being, and his hatred for all enforcers. Arcane’s characters are a constant reminder to me that I can be both the hero and the villain of my story. Also, I’m gonna share your video on the arcane subreddit, more people need to see this!
I have a different interpretation of Ekko's character. I believe that his greatest strength _and_ weakness was in his ability to forgive, or to let go of grudges and to live in the present. Here it is: • Ekko is initially mistrustful of Caitlyn, but very quickly relents and escorts her and Vi across the bridge, despite the years of persecution by the Enforcers. Even if Caitlyn was trustworthy, Marcus (the Sheriff) wasn't, and Ekko got shot because of his willingness to forgive by taking Caitlyn at her word (with some coaxing from Vi). • It's been established that Jinx has killed many Firelights while working for Silco (this was illustrated at the beginning of Episode 4, but it's probably been going on for years based on how afraid the Firelights were of her). Despite this, Ekko still honors Jinx's memory with a mural in his hideout, having her memorialized alongside fallen Firelights. This later comes back to haunt him, because just as he was about to deliver the finishing blow against Jinx on the bridge, he once again shows forgiveness by holding back, which gave Jinx just enough time to arm her grenade and almost kill them both. • And finally, Ekko responded to Silco's drug trade and Piltover's inaction by building a commune of vigilantes. He recruited from orphans (like himself) and ex-Shimmer addicts, which demonstrates his willingness to give second chances to the underprivileged. But such people have unresolved traumas of their own, and a willingness to work alongside them may result in betrayal in Season 2 (just as Caitlyn's willingness to trust Huck is what led to she and Vi being betrayed). In the Season 2 trailer, a mural (done in the style of the Firelights) was shown depicting Jinx as a liberator of sorts. It's entirely possible that some Firelights may have seen Jinx as a better fighter against Piltover, and through their pre-existing trauma and grief, they side with the mentally unstable terrorist over Ekko (even if she can't provide a home or family like Ekko can).
This is a very good point! Ekko is mostly affected by his mistrust before he and Vi reconnect in episode 7 but after that he is indeed shown to be forgiving on several fronts. Well spotted!
@@Sizzox I forgot to mention how quickly he forgave Vi after she and Caitlyn were captured. Ekko hadn't seen Vi for years, he didn't know that she had been unjustly incarcerated, and assumed that she was working for Silco (by fighting the Firelights alongside Jinx) and with the corrupt Enforcers (by siding with Caitlyn). He also showed no animosity or bitterness towards Heimerdinger, despite Heimerdinger's years of inaction.
I can always set aside some time to watch another video about Arcane. I don't think I'm exaggerating when I say that not a day goes by that I don't think about this masterpiece, and I first watched it perhaps around two years ago. There's always some layer of depth and nuance to be discovered. It would've been difficult enough for the writers to simultaneously balance every characters' story arc (which they've done excellently), but to explore the strengths and weaknesses of each character's position with such nuance is what officially made this my favorite series of all time (in just a single Season at that!) I appreciate that you took the time to explain those strengths and weaknesses, too.
Very Human, I believe in season 2 they are going to make Vander and Silco even more nuanced than season 1 Portrayed them as With Flashbacks when they were close. I bet they will emphasize the parallels of Jinx & Vi.
