I found this song six years ago when my wife passed away, played it at her funeral . Best version on TH-cam beautiful song sang by a beautiful person. Thank you Rachel.
So sorry for your loss, Robert. I first heard this song probably 40 years ago, and learned to sing it about 25 years ago so I could sing it to my wife for our anniversary. She passed away 3 months ago, and this is one of several songs I find myself singing over and over - but mostly alone, because I can't sing it in front of people without breaking down in tears. My luve was like a red, red rose . . .
I keep returning to this heavenly performance, more than any other on youtube. I have no preconceptions about how Robert Burns should be sung, so I have little sympathy for those commenters who say it is not "authentic". I just know an angel when I hear one. And it's not just her perfect voice. She is so at ease, so glowing, so loving, so modest. It's as if she takes no credit for herself, just a messenger from heaven.
More people should hear this version of this song, the artist's voice is beautiful. I was lucky enough to see some of her set at Bannockburn Live in Stirling last weekend.
I was there too! I hadn't heard of her before that, but after maybe the first two songs at that show I knew this person and her music was something very, very special. And I've listened to her pretty much nonstop ever since!
O my Luve’s like a red, red rose, That’s newly sprung in June; O my Luve’s like the melodie That’s sweetly play’d in tune. As fair are thou, my bonie lass, So deep in luve am I; And I will luve thee still, my Dear, Till a’ the seas gang dry. Till a’ the seas gang dry, my Dear, And the rocks melt wi’ the sun: I will luve thee still, my dear, While the sands o’ life shall run. And fare thee weel, my only Luve! And fare thee weel, a while! And I will come again, my Luve, Tho’ it were ten thousand mile!)
I saw her sing live at Beautiful Days 2014 and the captivating beauty of her voice surpasses any other feelings one might have for her, as a man. She really can sing.
Aye when i was a wee lad we got Rabbie Burns poetry to recite at school this was away back in the very early 50's in Edinburgh , my God Rabbie certainly wrote poetry with love and passion . Duncan Pitkeathly .
My love is like a red, red rose That’s newly sprung in June : My love is like the melody That’s sweetly played in tune. As fair art thou, my bonnie lass, So deep in love am I : And I will love thee still, my dear, Till a’ the seas gang dry. Till a’ the seas gang dry, my dear, And the rocks melt wi’ the sun : And I will love thee still, my dear, While the sands o’ life shall run. And fare thee weel, my only love, And fare thee weel a while ! And I will come again, my love, Thou’ it were ten thousand mile
My love is like a red, red rose That's newly sprung in June My love is like a melody So sweetly played in tune As fair art thou my bonnie lass So deep in love am I And I would love thee still my dear Though all the seas gone dry Though all the seas gone dry my dear And the rocks melt with the sun I would love thee still my dear Though the sands of time may run So fare thee well my bonnie lass And fare thee well awhile And I would come to you again Though we were ten thousand miles Though we were ten thousand miles my dear Though we were ten thousand miles I would come to you again Though we were ten thousand miles
0, my luve is like a red, red rose, that's newly sprung in June. 0, my love is like a melodie, that's sweetly play'd in tune. As fair thou art, my bonnie lass, so deep in luve am I, And I will luve thee still, my dear, till a' the seas gang dry. Till a' the seas gang dry, my dear, and the rocks melt wi' the sun! And I will luve thee still, my dear, while the sands of life shall run. And fare the weel, my only luve! And fare the well awhile! And I will come again, my love. Tho it were ten thousand mile
It’s a notoriously difficult song to sing, what with the ranges of notes. A wonderful tune, heartbreaking words, setting out the indestructible quality of true love.
Early hours of Boxing day 2022, browsing You Tube music video's and found this absolute gem. Immediately shared it on Watts App with some friends, really hope they appreciate it. Beautiful, what's more to say? 🙄
Beautiful rendition of 'My Love Is Like A Red, Red Rose' but listen to Eddie Reader's version of 'Ae Fond Kiss' from the recent 'Burn's Night 2021 With The BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra' evening and tell me that this is not the greatest love song of all time sung by a woman who was *born* to represent the genius of 'The Bard' in the 21st century.
alsbigsmoke Patriotism and Nationalism are two different things Im a patriot love Scotland with all my heart but have a horror of all things connnected to nationalism (Natzism Fascismo are all connected to nationalism) I no longer live in Scotland but when I was young it was a very sectarian country I was so amazed when I Imoved to London in the 70's no one mentioned religion. There was no biogotry that is why I would never support the SNP )I actually belonged to the party in the days of Winnie Ewing A great lady. It has now become a party of bullying where people are afraid to speak out against it.To be honest I dont know why the English simply dont say "let them Go" Would be better for them!!
+Patsy Whyte So true, too many people have been blinded by lies and lured down a path of fear induced by the media. So sad, we were once a proud strong country.
Old pome, new choon th-cam.com/video/kHKlL2Qxkd0/w-d-xo.html. Burns' poem "Comin' Thro' The Rye" makes a serious point but was paired with an inappropriately jaunty tune which has a similar title ("Comin' Frae The Town").
I absolutely hate the jazzing up or down of Burns songs. Be they ever so well sung and orchestrated ,there is something completely inauthentic to my ears.I suppose it may be the only way to get them to a 21st Century audience but so wrong.
As a relative of Robert Burns I would appreciate when someone sings this with an orchestra, which Rabbie would have loved! that you sing the correct words.. A beautiful timbre but some air and the correct words would knock this out of the park for me. And yes, I write and sing but do not perform anymore...oh...that was so long ago...
In my own opinion, her voice is far too airy for me to enjoy.. but that doesn't mean it's bad, it's just preference. Karen Matheson's version will always be my favorite, it's more rich. Yet, the orchestra in this version was better. Again, this is my own opinion.
Lovely voice, but for every one who loves the poem... It's the wrong words..! She gets in mess. Ruins the meaning of the song. I mean great voice..! But song ruined.. One of the greatest pieces of lyrical genius every written. Ruined. Can't dislike it though. She's far too talented for a dislike. Thumb up!
yes but who gives a shit......really such bad manners. She got out of it well. Any way it was written for a man to sing.....well adapted for a man to sing...if its true that R B heard it sung by a country girl.

Well said.. The poem was not a song, so it can be interpreted in any way.. Rachel's way is stunning. Come back to Tobermory Rachel.. we love you here
Dude, yes
Absolutely agree, if it speaks to your soul and fills your heart then it's perfect.
Just beautiful ❤️ always loved this poem/song and Rachel’s interpretation is my absolute favourite.
I just cried...love the poem, it's beautiful and along with Rachel's voice...just lovely

I will love thee still my dear, till all the seas gang dry - amazing song and wonderfully sung Rachel
Burn's original lyrics are " I will love thee still my dear, while the sands o' life shall run"
very beautiful accompaniment, vocal performance. excellent
Beautiful rendering of one of Burns's simplest and most moving poems.
how nice....your voice...I cant tell you.....so nice...😍😍😭😭
Beautiful greetings from southern ireland,
I love this song, beautiful version too...
A beautiful Robert (Rabbie) Burns song.
My love is like a melody that sweetly sang in tune.
An incredible performance! 👏👏👏👏
I heard this song first time in my introduction to poetry class 💫
Aye when i was a wee lad we got Rabbie Burns poetry to recite at school this was away back in the very early 50's in Edinburgh , my God Rabbie certainly wrote poetry with love and passion . Duncan Pitkeathly .

My love is like a red, red rose
That's newly sprung in June
My love is like a melody
So sweetly played in tune
As fair art thou my bonnie lass
So deep in love am I
And I would love thee still my dear
Though all the seas gone dry
Though all the seas gone dry my dear
And the rocks melt with the sun
I would love thee still my dear
Though the sands of time may run
So fare thee well my bonnie lass
And fare thee well awhile
And I would come to you again
Though we were ten thousand miles
Though we were ten thousand miles my dear
Though we were ten thousand miles
I would come to you again
Though we were ten thousand miles
Thank you for writing the lyrics

Another nicely performed version to check out is from the series 'Upstairs Downstairs'. David Kernan.
Well sung!
I love this poem!!!

Helen Rumjanek Propaganda is manipulative... You've swallowed it all, hook, line and sinker. I feel so sorry for you.

Nice voice....but.... Eva Cassidy's version of this is just breathtaking.
No question about it - Eva's is on another Level !

You think she sang the wrong words on purpose,? well I dont. She recovered well.
Hi Brenda I am intrigued by your stated family relationship to the Bard, given your surname, can you advise further?

Robyn Stapleton's version is my favourite at the moment. Still, you can't go far wrong with Burns.

Better than Pat Boone!
This is a nice version but cannot compare to Eddi Reader

Its just a bloody song !!!
Lovely lass and voice but next time learn the words 😨🎼
This certainly beats hearing those that persist in pronouncing the word syne as zyne ; accents one can accept not mispronounced words .
Over-rated rendition despite the paraphernalia behind her.
Too breathy. Is she trying to sound like a parody of Michael Crawford channeling Celine Dion?
