So far the story has been told really well, despite some cringey parts in the series. The actress playing Selena gets better as the series progresses. I'll give her credit she actually sounds like Selena when she's talking. But considering a 2nd season is coming, I hope she dives alot deeper and embodies more of Selena's characteristics in the coming season.

While Christian was performing, there were too many cuts from her waist and up - to the point where you would only see her lip since for 0.5 seconds till it cut to a different person. I guess it’s to hide the lack of performance ability of the actor. I wanted to see her do her iconic twirls. I feel like Jlo definitely captured Selena’s characteristics more that Christian.

JLo actually lived with the Quintanillas and even slept on Selena’s bed. She said she didn’t feel like she was making a movie, she felt she was making a memorial and she took and did this roll with a lot of respect and honor to Selena and her family. By the way, Jon Seda who plays Selena’s husband is of puertorrican parents too. Jon stayed best friends with Chris, the real Selena’s husband.

This actress, Christian Serratos, is actually half Mexican and Half Italian, which doesn’t quite make her “white.” Selena wasn’t exuberantly thick either, and was actually quite thin herself but her figure was very well taken care of. If you were to go to her museum, where the family had custom mannequins made to properly display her clothes which she made by and for HERSELF, you’d come to find that Selena was t i n y, she was just gifted waist/hip proportions by the gods themselves.

Jlo never naturally looked like Selena that much but they made her look like Selena for the movie. Everybody was spellbound by Jennifer's performance though, it was the first starring role she ever had & it turned her into a mega superstar overnight. She still can't sing for shit though.

No. In the movie Abraham had less control and Gregory Nava could portray him more authentically. In the series, Abraham's flaws were severely censored.
As much as I love Selena's music, I don't like the way that she was (and remains treated) as a cash grab by her father... obviously that's not something they are going to portray here because her family is involved in the production, but many people said that her father was SUPER toxic and literally treated her like a child. Selena had no autonomy! She had to get married secretly! Think about that!
Apparently, Guadalupe Esparza from the "Bronco" band (who worked with her on "Dos Mujeres, un Camino" a soap opera) said that Selena was very controlled by her father, so much so that Selena was always stressed and couldn't be herself... He said that Selena would only let go and be happy once her father would leave the set.
If that's not toxic, I don't know what is.

Ok I’ve watched all of part one because Selena is truly a huge inspiration in my life. I have to say that the actress does look like J lo, but I really like how they are focusing on the family dynamic. I think it’s great to see a new side of Selena . I admire them for making it a series young girls can watch to look up to Selena.

Can we all just appreciate the fact that Selena is still relevant almost 26 years after her death? People who never even heard of Selena will see this and hear her music. And her hairstyles in this trailer are ON POINT. She's not Selena's clone, but I think she looks like her.

Personal opinion, J Lo plays a better Selena. Just watched it again for the first time in years. The resemblance is spooky. I remember the day it happened 😞 I remember the standoff between yulonda and the police. Didn't expect after all these years to cry so much watching this. Her music and smile are forever in my heart.

I feel like they didn’t even try hard enough with the series than they did with the movie. Especially with those wigs, literally looks like they bought them from Wish.

if you look the difference between the movie (which was made in the 90s) and the series in the movie it actually looks more realistic and that they actually put a lot of effort on it, not just their hair but on the castings appearance too they were all spot on. Just look at the 2 guys who are playing Pete Astudillo and Chris. If I’m not mistaken the real Chris has curly hair. In the series the guy’s hair looks so nappy. The real Pete Astudillo is shorter in height, the dude who’s playing him here is so freaking tall. And the real Suzette was more chubby the one playing her looks skinny! Like do y’all know what I’m trying to say? Lol 😂

Let Selena REST. This is just the bootleg version of the movie, Selena's money hungry family doesn't know when to quit. Also, she looks NOTHING like Selena. They definitely could've found someone else. Crazy how Chris was banned from making a show on their love story, SOMETHING NEW, yet they went ahead and retold the SAME story again for clout. Any true Selena fan knows the true motives behind this.
It’s not the same story again. The movie focused on her singing career after it took off. We didn’t really see her hardships of getting there. That’s what the series is going to provide. The movie gave us all we needed to know of the Chris Selena love story. Selena should be the main focus not her love story..
Finally someone said it I’ve been saying this for years that her family is so shady and I just think they are money hungry like they made the Selena movie so fast. They made it 2 years after her death because “they didn’t want people to forget about her” when the movie about Queen and Freddie Mercury came out in 2018 but he died in 1980s I believe and people still remember them so I think they are money hungry and the only people I like from that family is Selena and Chris

Then he had Chris sign over his marital rights to her name two months after she died so he couldn’t earn money off her name. Yet Abraham said Chris was a cancer in his family and that he was all about the money, which wasn’t even true. Yeah he’s made money with the book and his other music he’s put out but he didn’t do that to make money off of Selena. Money was a secondary thought, he needed to deal with losing her and that was the only way he could by putting out music and writing the book. Abraham on the other hand could’ve made that museum free. I know the $3 admission is nothing but still, if it was my daughter I would just make it free, so all her fans could come see her possessions. Then Abraham had the nerve to sue Chris because he wanted to make the TV show about his book but he never sued Maria Celeste Arraras for her book and the TV series that came out years later based on the book.
Say it louder for the fake fans who ignore how Abraham shat all over Chris to get ahead and has ALWAYS exploited his own children for fame and riches.
The best thing about Jlo being casted as her for the movie is that she had the same rhythm and dance skills and most importantly, stage presence which Christian Serratos does not. Its not something you can act out. You have to feel the music in your soul and know what it's like to enjoy singing and performing.

I agree, I learned why they got Jlo for the movie because she didn't fit the looks but she had the talent to learn to imitate Selena body language and dance, even her charisma. The thing I like about this version is that they seem to be highlighting Selena’s career in the 80s while the 1997 film focused mainly on her career in the early 90s.

People, its hard to find actors that look "identical" to a singer for the portrayal of that star and their life in a movie. The actress in the movie "Whats love got to do with it" so did not look like Tina turner. Jennifer lopez had selenas body type but her face didn't look like selenas. Give this actress a chance to proove she can bring selenas personality to life in the series. I am so glad that this series will give us a better look into selenas life and story. I think that her smile and eyes do remind me of selenas.
