    This is the first piece I have seen you do without an under painting and amazingly still wonderful. Good info.

      You are exactly right! And I do like how it kept the painting bright and fresh. I guess I should try it more ;)

    Aha! What a lovely display of the beauty that can be created with pastels. I had no real idea how to use them but your demonstration really turned on the lightbulb for me. Thanks for sharing this beautiful poppy field with us. Happy Memorial Day to all who served.

    Hi Susan, may I ask what you will be doing on Patreon in June?

    • @monetcafe
      @monetcafe  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Tillie, I’m thinking I will be focusing on figures in a landscape. I don’t think I’ve ever had that topic before and it should be fun.

    Thank you so much what a great teacher you are so many great tips. How many layers do you do in your pastel paintings? Just found pastels last year and I am loving them.

    • @monetcafe
      @monetcafe  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wonderful Barbara. With this surface you can get probably 10-15 layers, but keep in mind that overlaying will muddy the color. Best to create with minimal layering rather than overdoing it.

    Hi, and what a great video on warm and cool colors; clears up a difficult topic. My other concern is making mud. I don't even know if I'd recognize mud on my painting. Any help is greatly appreciated.

    • @monetcafe
      @monetcafe  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So glad it was helpful, Rosemarie! And "mud" is when the pastel colors become dull and lifeless. Keeping a light touch and not over layering is the trick.

    Can u tell me that Eggplant Pigment color? And where to buy it Open stock?…..Or suggest a similar, very soft, good match… I have that Jack Richeson set. But not a close enough match. Or layer some colors? Thx Susan! As alway, great lesson! - Messy Mendy 👍🖌🙏🏻

      Hi Mindy, the eggplant color is made by Terry Ludwig Pastels. I believe the color is B 100, but I’m not positive so you can find it for sale individually at www.dickblick.com Have fun!

    What you do with the dust from the soft pastel to dont ruin the white side ?

    • @monetcafe
      @monetcafe  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I usually like to work with my surface on an easel. I keep a little trough (made from tinfoil) at the bottom of the painting. I save the dust into little plastic containers to make new pastels that end up being very neutral in color. Lately, I've been working flat since my viewers can see things more clearly.

    Now I am totally confused! How can you say that those greens are from warmer to cooler when the bright yellow-green is right next to the yellow on your color wheel? Shouldn’t a yellow-green be considered warm when a bluer green is considered cool? 😕

    • @monetcafe
      @monetcafe  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      What you described is correct. I'm not sure which part of the video you are referring to, but in general bright "yellow greens" would be warmer and typically more in the foreground (when light is hitting grasses). And colors would cool off and get less brilliant (and lighter in value) in the distance. There are often variables to this however. Sometimes the sun may be shining brightly in a distant field casting a more "warm" glow and thus those areas would be a bit warmer. It's a lot of info, but it gets easier the more we paint.

    I have been really frustrated with pastels. I was ready to give up, then I saw this. Maybe the paper is the problem to start with Canson Teintes is what I was using and it is awful for me. I am an artist with other media, it is just pastel that intimidates me and I can not get the click to happen where I feel like I can do it right.

    • @monetcafe
      @monetcafe  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think you will really find an amazing difference if you try some sanded pastel papers. A few that I love our Fisher 400, and I buy it from pro Artpanels.com, and I also love Pastelmat, which I sometimes get on Amazon if the price is good. You can find many of the papers that I love in my Amazon shop. You can find the link to my shop in the description of this video. Hope that helps sweetheart!
