How does the digital $ figure in your account mean you're cashless? Most money launderers, drug traffickers don't put money in their bank accounts either. Yet they're most definitely cash-full. Bad "joke".

@mrbobbilly you miss the point, it is about the choice to use the banking system or not. Once cash is no longer available, that's it, you are 100% reliant upon banks. If they go broke, so do you. If the government wants to freeze or confiscate your money, it is all to easy for them to do so. People might accept a cashless society today because everything works, and we have relatively stable economic and political conditions, but that can change very quickly. I haven't watched the video yet, I just came here to rant.
First of all, what about homeless people? As if life isn't hard enough for them already.
But, in general, I hate the fact that everything has to be monitored. People think we're free, but we're not. You can't build or even camp on your own land without permission - which is usually denied. Think about that. It's like finding birds in their nest in a tree, or rabbits in their burrows, and 'evicting' them before smashing their shelters, because they didn't have 'permission' to meet their basic needs. Then the homeless (which might now include our hypothetical landowner who isn't 'allowed' to build himself a home) are told they're not allowed to sleep or shelter in public spaces. Even regular people complain that they're an eyesore. Are you freaking kidding me?! Human beings are dying in the streets and living like dogs, while surrounded by supposedly civilised and moral people... But poor you, you have to _look_ at them for a few seconds. People won't admit it, but the attitude of many is 'let them go away out of my sight and die somewhere'.
There are a number of ways in which we're restricted. I'm all for laws, don't get me wrong. They are necessary. But there's a difference between being under the law and being controlled. Removing cash means that you can't make a single untracked payment or have anything stashed away. If the government ever decided to hold your funds, you would be left with absolutely nothing.
Why don't people see where we're headed? We were warned so long ago, most of us have heard of it, but we deny it.
Revelation 13:13 And he doeth great wonders, so that he maketh fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men,
14 And deceiveth them that dwell on the earth by the means of those miracles which he had power to do in the sight of the beast; saying to them that dwell on the earth, that they should make an image to the beast, which had the wound by a sword, and did live.
15 And he had power to give life unto the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed.
16 And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads:
_ 17 And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.
    _
18 Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six.

Exactly and the use of debit cards are going to skyrocket. When they first tricked people into cards it was almost free. Now its fees, fees, and more fees. You'll be broke just from the fees.

yeah, I get it but the government should do something about coins... no one wants them and they probably cost more to make than what they are worth.

Coins are way more resistant than bills. They don't tear or crumple, don't get destroyed if you forget to take out of the pocket when you wash your clothes and have a better price to make vs durability ratio

Universal basic income, but not in a "here is x amount of money for you to spend" way. More like we will give you a place to live and enough food to live. When I was working in a supermarket I saw people just finessing the system, buying alcohol and cigarettes and the least amount of shit quality food to barely survive.
Tl;dr: give them group housing and bags of food, no money.

I can’t see this happening for at least another 50-100 years, there is way too much inequality even in the developed Western countries. If you remove cash there will be a humanitarian crisis when homeless people and others who don’t have bank accounts or smartphones suddenly are financially excluded.

I like cash because I can find ways to avoid taxes. Make anonymous purchases without any bureaucratic institution knowing about it. I do embrace cashless transaction, I actually am excited about it, my issue of a cashless society is that in a hypothetical future, government can freeze your bank account if you have a political opinion that doesn't conform to the state's ideology, it's been happening in authoritarian China for example.
