I am a paper artist and I have followed your channel for ideas on what to use to color paper. It is so exciting to see you experimenting with dying paper!! I discovered junk journaling just.a couple years ago and found that dying papers with natural dyes is my favorite thing to explore. I hope to begin making my own paper this year and incorporating natural dyes into the process. I hope to go to one of your dye retreats in the future. I am going to Portugal in 2024 to create a junk journal with an IG artist I love who uses a lot of rust dying in her work. As a related sidenote - I have been experimenting with rust dying and I LOVE the process you created here. I never thought of layering recycled plastic between my paper layers - I typically roll bundles and then have to carefully pull papers apart with fingers crossed that tears are minimal. Using plastic is a game changer!
How awesome to have you join us at Color Quest, Dawn! There are so many amazing ways to use natural color with paper and I bet you are making some gorgeous things 🤎 Would love to have you join a destination retreat one day in the future, and of course, if March 2024 opens up for you, you are welcome to Baja 😉 Sounds like an amazing trip to Portugal filled with lots of creative fun! Rust dyeing was new to me too, but it is a truly magical way to make prints. I got hooked when I experimented in my own practice and I absolutely love playing with iron and tannin (videos coming in the next weeks). So happy to hear the repurposed plastic is a new idea for you. It really does make life soooo much easier! Happy New Year to you and yours ☃
I love your prints! I have been doing rust dyeing on fabric and paper ....it's one on my favorite things to do. Thanks for the tips, sometimes my paper ones are definitely a hit and miss process.
Thank you so much, Jenny 🤎 It is quickly becoming a favorite of mine as well! The next several weeks of videos will all be focused on rust printing, so stick around 😉
Wowsa! I just subscribed to your channel. I loved this project, not only how you rusted everything, but how you afterward, cleaned off the salt and lose rusted pieces. Thank you for that follow up, which most never bother to tell you about. Your pieces came out magnificent!! Thank you for this presentation.
Welcome to Color Quest, Lynn 🌼 So happy you found us! I really enjoyed working with rust printing and experimenting with all of the different variations possible and even incorporated it into my own art practice. Thank you so much for your kind words 🤎
Will email you shortly regarding the retreat.....we're quasi off the grid and have no internet at home. Please dont save the king room for me.....I don't think it makes sense for hubby to come. I'm still deciding! Thanks for being patient. Best, eb
Honestly, I didn't expect to be so intrigued with it, but opened up to experimenting with it when I was on my artist residency in Svalbard where I knew iron as an earth pigment might be available to me. Little did I know that it would appear in the form of rust! I've loved to use iron in my practice for years, so I suppose this is a natural progression 😉 Get ready for many more weeks of videos on the subject 🤎
Those nails transferred so well! Really great prints.
It was such a gift to find that stockpile of rusty nails while foraging 🤎 They are working magic this week in the dye studio!
What some people see as garbage, the creative person sees as gifts and works wonders with them 😍
What a lovely thought! Thank you for your creative spirit all the way around 🤎
Wow! Thank you Margaret. Looking forward to seeing it on fabric.💚👏👏👏
Thank you, Malathie 🤎 I just finished filming several prints on silk, cotton & wool - they look amazing!
