I just want to come back and thank you for introducing me to Amen Dunes. I love Freedom and have listened to it a bunch. Since watching this I've bought a record player and have quite a few records including Love and Freedom. I start most days listening to Freedom as it puts me in a great mood. It is pretty much becoming my favorite album of all time. I seriously love every single song; it is a masterpiece. If it was not for this interview I would have maybe listened to one song and just wrote off Amen Dunes but I thought he seemed like a cool guy so I gave it a full listen and something just clicked with it for me. Thanks for this and I would love to hear any other music recommendations.
Even though Pessoa can be cynical and bleak at times, and is quite self-absorbed (after all, IIRC "The Book of Disquiet" was compiled out of random pieces of paper found in a trunk, never intended for publication), I wouldn't dismiss his work because of that. Maybe I just think that because it's become one of my favourite books, to the point where I'm afraid of recommending it to friends. His book of poetry "A Little Larger than the Entire Universe" (translated by Richard Zenith) is incredible by the way. You get to explore more of his heteronyms that are so vastly different from one another (they are all different stylistically and thematically, with their own contrasting beliefs). There are lots of what I would say are positive, beautiful poems, that rejoice life in there. I go back to it all the time. If you like Pessoa and are interested in reading more poetry, I'd give it a try! (Also, if it weren't for your channel, I probably would have never discovered Pessoa, and I am eternally grateful - so thank you!)
Thanks for this…. He said far fetched to think of being a novelist…. But he is a tremendous songwriter lyrically, no one comes close these days ( for me )

Please read Josè Saramago if you haven't done it yet. His unique style will surprise you. Long, "melodic" sentences, meaningful theme, compelling stories. No modern bullshit, I promise. Portuguese, Nobel prize for literature, a great lover of Pessoa. I suggest starting with "Blindness". I wish to hear your review soon.

Great interview man. You should really get into Jung, I just read his Modern Man in Search of a Soul and Psychology and Religion and am now about half way through The Archetypes and the Collective Unconscious, it’s some of the most profound stuff I’ve ever read.

One of the only books I’ve seem to have read of your latest is Doktor Glas /greetings from Sweden;) by the way, one of the first reviews I saw of yours was of Knausgård. Did you get around to some of his other books since?
His bit about liking literature more than music is interesting because there's a Vonnegut quote I think rings pretty true that is something along the lines of "Almost every writer I know would rather be a musician."

Same as listening to music doesn't make you a proficient musician, nor does watching films make you a filmmaker. Correlation does not equate causation. I don't know where you get this idea, that a book reviewer would magically have some valuable insight into the mechanisms of writing adequate prose. It does not work like that my friend... One tip I can surely give you: Watching wrestling videos most definitely won't get you there. :D
