It was a "fallen out of time" gentlemen's outfitters, where you could get good, decent, hard wearing tweeds and country attire at affordable prices. Richard, I do like your second outfit, namely the smallest part: your collar needle/collar bar. It may be just a small accessory, but it adds that 1930ies look - and it looks very smart.
I admire and respect any man that takes the time and effort to present themselves with poise and style. I can't undertake such simply due to the time it takes to curate such and ensemble and dealing with the day to day, it's not always practical. Definitely an ensemble for an occasion I guess ! Salute to Richard and Ash for his perspectives.
Chap in the 1st photo reminds me of a reporter from a 50s film. His second outfit has just enough cues to let the keen eyed know he's not JUST dressing smart.... I didn't know the reason we call spectators correspondents ! I though it was correspondent - as in reporter on the scene of a story! It makes sense though, when I see them, I immediately think 'dodgy fellow' ! Brilliant little video Ash, pass my thanks on to the gentleman pictured. PS I need some grey flannels, not so baggy though, my legs are too short. M

Really interesting combo jacket + shirt + tie! (Love the tie!) I agree about the pocket square. The only aspect I noticed is that the fitment of the blue double breast jacket, concerning the sleeve length. Looks like is too long or maybe the shirt sleeves are a little short? But otherwise both looks are great and Richard definitely is a Chap! PS. Specially for a vintage style I will add to that a pocket watch and chain.
I confess to being fascinated by the whole vintage subculture -from those who dress in vintage clothing to those who live in houses that are filled with nothing but vintage items, right down to the antique tins of baking powder on their pantry shelves. Personally, I find the style displayed in the first image submitted here to be too close to cosplay for my comfort level, but kudos to those who enjoy dressing like this, and have the confidence to pull it off. The second image provided by this gentlemen proves the dictum that classic men's style is timeless: much of what he wears here, with minor adjustments, could easily be worn today. -I frequently dress quite a bit like this myself.

Good, helpful review! I like both outfits, especially the second one. It could only benefit from the addition of a pocket square (and personally I'm not too keen on tie bars) but overall: very good. The first outfit is not bad, the major issues being the shirt collar and the colour of the belt. For this vintage styled outfit I would recommend a detachable collar (cf. New & Lingwood, etc.) and braces.
I always appreciate the show. I’m not British, but I’m learning a great deal and applying it as I can. 20 years of wearing a uniform have stunted my sartorial skills and I’m a late bloomer. Sadly, motorcycle boots are a necessity so the shoes remain a sore spot.

I cannot see any situation wear a pocket square should be omitted. Even a funeral outfit will be complemented with a plain, straight fold square in my opinion.

My compliments to Richard. I love the spearpoint collar and tie. The wider trousers and turn-ups are spiffing. I have searched the Internet for turn-ups but to little avail. I love the way the cuffed trousers swing when walking. If anyone knows a good place to search for them I'd appreciate it.
As much as I don't wish to critique 'Richard's style (love the tie), I find the shirt in the first outfit is, I agree with you, a little short for the purpose. I would also suggest braces instead of a belt. Anyone who wears a hat (excluding the Baseball variety) is automatically on the right path as far as I'm concerned.
Myself I just got my black and white Oxford Dress shoes by Lethao in too pair with my white suit and black dress shirt with a grey morning dress tie and my range of Hats to choose from like a Fedora or Panama or newsboy to go with the style
I must admit I'm not the greatest fan of pocket squares. But occasionally I do use this pocket for a pocket watch, with the chain fastened to the buttonhole in the lapel. For me, both the pocket and buttonhole are functional details. You don't *have* to use them, but they are there if you need them.
First of all, congratulations on your gorgeous tie! I did not like the first outfit at all. Terrible. The second turned out to be beautiful. I agree with you regarding the "vintage" look, I do not like the slavish imitation of any period, it feels, and I believe it is, like dressing up for a costume party or a historical film or documentary that aims to reproduce exactly the fashion of a certain era. Tissot are a long established Swiss brand with a storied history. They are now part of the Swatch group along with heavy hitting brandslike Omega and Blancpain. Tissot watches are more affordable than many Swiss brands but still produce well regarded watches. The PRX model is Tissot's star product at the moment and very popular with watch enthusiasts. In my opinion the Tissot "Gentlemen", a longer established model in a more classic style, is your better buy.. Very much a chaps watch. 🤓
So I have been involved the vintage world for some 40 years. Personally, I hate the word revivalist, as we are not trying to revive anything. Unless you are a very small build, buying true vintage from the 40s' or 50's is a challenge, and most of the items you find simply will not stand up to everyday wear. So, like Richard, most of us settle for repro. Yes, these are outfits which don't blend in with a modern aesthetic, and get yoy noticed, but I'd that not the point?
Walk around in wonder for a few days and just let the city open up before you, it is a myriad of stories of history and world events. Dine at one of the fine restaurants (Rules is my favourite). But please do buy yourself a guidebook now and start planning. Without knowing your tastes, it is impossible to offer any cogent suggestions, but planning ahead does help, especially in August, when the holiday period will swell the city to its capacity with visitors. I will be in town in 2-weeks with my family for our summer holiday visit to London - say hi if you see me!
