@@CrispyMWHC I agree with you there. Autotheism was pretty good, but definitely not as nearly as good. Then their most recent stuff continued that trend. Anyway, Planetary Duality will always stand tall as one of my favorite albums.
Correction: not "some of the finest" it is THE finest extreme progressive music ever made! Just messin with ya. Glad to see somebody else sees the absolute genius in this album! Cheers 🤘🏻
With 23 years of drumming experience under my belt I can inform you that your feet get that fast by honing your double bass technique so that all the muscles involved are working together at peak efficiency. And when you’re not having to play this sort of music with a band regularly you lose that precision very quickly. It’s such a specific skill.
Alex is a consummate pro. He isn't a TH-cam drummer, he's the real deal. He played for the Faceless, played with Conquering Dystopia, an instrumental side projact band that involved Cannibal Corpse bassist Alex Webster, and is currently the drummer for the deathcore band Whitechapel. You don't just play in a band with Alex Webster, a musical theorist and great composer, or jump into play for Whitechapel unless you have every possible chop imaginable. Alex Rudinger can do it all...and he has fun doing it while making it look easy.
Other drummer I would recommend to check out would be Ken Bedene from Aborted, dude is always super chill looking with everything he plays. th-cam.com/video/nwrIDsNIy8w/w-d-xo.html Second one would be Trey Williams from Dying Fetus he's my personal favourite and I just love his style. th-cam.com/video/mThUnt4X1Tk/w-d-xo.html
I fully admit thinking that he was using some form of trigger, or other kind of technological assistance...then came the true horror of realizing that: A) His kit's acoustic...like all of it. I could walk to my local music store, and probably grab 80% of what he's using that day...and the other 20% would probably only take a week or two to get in. B) That he has such a phenomenal degree of control, regardless of the tempo, that I thought that electronic assistance was the only possible explanation.
he is using a trigger for his bass drums. 90 % of people bitching about it can not even figure out if one is used, what its purpose is or how it works. agree that he is a phenomenal musician and wouldn|t necessarilzl need one, but triggers are just a reality in 90% of todays contemporary metal. deal with it or leave it lol. I also think a lot of people switch up triggering and quantization. quantization is basically after editing, aligning everything perfectly "to the grid" which may sound overly mechanical and takes out the "human" element. triggering is simply a way of tracking hits in a sense and, if needed, replace them with a different sound. in principle, you do not do anything different when using a electric guitar or applying effects to it. You still have to play the instrument, be on time, play the notes, but can change the sound coming out of it. obbiously, the rest of the acoustics are also heavily edited, like eq, filters, compression slapped on. but with the music video beneath it, you kinda have "proof" that he physically played all of it. because if he would have just miced that and laid it down ans an audio track, i can GUARANTEE that it would not have sounded so sharp and clean at all.
@@Luemm3l as a guitarist its always annoyed me that were using pedals n shit constantly to improve our sound but as soon as a drummer uses some triggers hes seen as a cheater haha
I have to pedal back: Apparently, Rudinger indeed did not use Triggers for his kick drums here. But he did and does so for a lot of his other videos or live. My point was just to say that at least have a understanding about what you are talking before you criticize certain recording techniques like triggers.
@@Luemm3l I'll admit to being a bit confused by the initial comment, as I couldn't see any hoop triggers on his gear (and I believe he didn't start using On Trigger modules until fairly recently), and the bass pedal setup was just a plain old Trick Drums dual beater model. I'd say my understanding of the topic is quite sufficient ;-)
I know I’m 2 years late to this party but BRO!!! Your reaction made my damn day!! Thank you so much,
One of the most in-pocket metal drummer. The previous Faceless drummer Lyle Cooper was the same way. Perfection
The album that this song is from, Planetary Duality, is some of the finest extreme progressive music ever made. Thanks for the reaction!
It's sad that they peaked at their second album. Though the rest is pretty good, they still haven't hit even close to the first two albums. A shame.

Agreed, this album is a masterpiece.
To me, it’s THE best one. Definitely one of the greatest masterpieces in extreme metal.
