I was able to be there when Ricky Rudd won. It was truly an unbelievable experience. I had never before, nor ever since, seen that many people in one place. If only NASCAR could return to that level of competition…
I remember how amazing it was to watch NASCAR cars at Indy at the 92 and 93 tests. Watched em on ESPN after getting home from school. The hype over that first race was insane. But it seems every one after that inaugural ended up being a relatively boring parade race. All about the Indy history and prestige and much less about being a good entertaining race.
I remember the first Brickyard 400. I was 4 years old at the time, and this was when I was really getting into liking NASCAR in general. My dad would record just about every race and re-watch them later in the day. I miss those days back then.
Part of my Indianapolis Display is full of 1994 memorabilia. From a tall mug to a 1:24 pace car to a 1:24 and 1:64 of the promo car and a souvenir race program with the ticket inside. Was my birth year so it only makes sense, plus my man won it!
After The 1994 Season Jeff Gordon would go on to score One of The Greatest Careers in NASCAR History that saw an additional 91 Victories & 4 Championships in 1995, 1997, 1998 & 2001 (He would have had an additional 3 Championships in 2004, 2007 & 2014 If The Chase/Playoffs were never a thing) before The Conclusion of His Driving Career in 2015 from a Full-Time Perspective & in 2016 from an Overall Perspective in which All earned him an induction into The NASCAR Hall of Fame in 2019. He now serves as Vice Chairman of Hendrick Motorsports.
Before NASCAR raced at Indy, they ran on Indy's cousin out west in the form of Ontario Motor Speedway, today nothing is left of the track just like Riverside
I was there. Because I had 2 tix every year to the Indy 500, I was allowed to enter basically a lottery for Brickyard 400 tix. So I ended up having 6 tix to the Brickyard every year. Being from New England, I didn't make it there every year, so eventually stopped renewing, because while they were good main-straight tix, you can find better from scalpers on race day, and buying 6 tix when more often than not, I didn't go, got old after a while. I recently found the box of (16) 1/43 scale limited edition (of 4024) #24 cars from that race. So I gave one to my 3.5yo grandson, who is into trucks and cars. First time any of them have been out of their numbered boxes, and it looks like it's become one of his favorite cars, thanks to the paint job. Being from New England, I didn't make it there every year, so eventually stopped renewing, because eating or trying to resell 6 tix every year got old, especially when a very wealthy friend would take 1 or 2 but not all 6 when I wasn't going. I was basically his face value, interest free provider of tix, plus often ate the other 5 or 6 tix, or at least paid eBay fees on them.
Whatever happens this weekend it'll be legendary. Either the beginning of another Decade of excellence, or the last brickyard 400 we ever see. Either way, I'm happy to see the Gen 7s get their shot to show what they can do.
So glad that road course is taking a back seat for a year at least. With this track it will be interesting to see how this car performs on it. Hoping it’s close to the mile and a half package. Pocono was quite boring so we might be in for some of that.
Great seeing them return to the oval. But living here in Indy, you don’t even know there is a race there this weekend. It is not promoted here at all, so the attendance is not going to be great.
bob is just so visibly un comfortable on camera, and IT SHOWS, stop making this great reporter, dont make him stand still on camera in focus let him be natural like neil bonnett
Geoff Bodine still should have won if his brother didn’t wreck him. He had dominated and had the best car that day. My dad is a big bodine fan and deep down he cant get over this race
Despite tagging the wall on lap 1, Dale Earnhardt still finished 5th. Gordon was probably right that it ruined the car, Dale won it the very next year. Rusty did all that testing and ended up never winning that race. Geoff Bodine for sure would have been there at the end had he not got wrecked...
What Bob doesnt know is Jeff Gordon won the 1st Brickyard 400 but Earnhardt is the 1st man to win it.............................................................
Is Jeff Gordon the GOAT?
I predict Christopher Bell will win this weekend at Indianapolis motor speedway
Nope!
Yes
Yes
Yes.
It was very fitting that Gordon won the first Brickyard, he grew up in open wheel in Indiana and that was special for the fans there.
I was able to be there when Ricky Rudd won. It was truly an unbelievable experience. I had never before, nor ever since, seen that many people in one place. If only NASCAR could return to that level of competition…
I was there that year too and I have the same opinion about the amount of people
@@swizlstik many areas on the front straight were blocked off today. Really sad to see that while watching the race on tv today.
The only man with five Brickyards
5:40 proof they need to abolish charters...86 cars qualifying for 43 spots is unfathomable nowadays
14:20 Scott Brayton started that tradition when he kiss the bricks after setting the pole for the Indy 500.

"You don't play croquet at Augusta"
I'm gonna hold on to that one 😆

2.5 mile paperclip? It's a perfect rectangle.
I paused the video and just stared at my screen when he said that lol
Cool to see Jeff standing where I walked only weeks ago!

I remember the entire thing. Great stuff
I used to know someone that had a 1994 Richard Petty Brickyard 400 t shirt.
Bob I can’t help but notice you throwing a few hand signs. Yeah that’s right bob someone noticed. Salute your overloads.

My dad was on the 11 car team. I've got used lug nuts and valve caps from the 11 and 3 car that day. They pitted near each other.
Bob is the real GOAT.
It really wasn't that unprecedented. Nascar Cup used to race at Ontario. It's layout was almost identical to Indy.
He wasn't a rookie 30 years ago... his rookie season was 93

It's still weird to me, at 35 years old, to see Wonderboy Jeff Gordon with grey hair and a little bit heavier.
Great video, Bob! 🏁
Bob is the Goat
Im honestly surprised the IMS museum doesn’t have Jeff’s car or a spot for that Inaugural 400:
He is the 🐐
Great seeing them return to the oval. But living here in Indy, you don’t even know there is a race there this weekend. It is not promoted here at all, so the attendance is not going to be great.
Jeff and Ernie swapping the lead every lap just like Josef and Pato at the Indy 500 earlier this year.
Me being a kid who actually knew about the inaugural brickyard 400:
Skipped school? My school had a field trip to a practice day. The entire school went!
Sorry Nascar, but Nascarman's video was WAY better❤.
🤫
@@Jeffgordonfan24hesthegoat haha
I can't watch this guy.😂
Skipped school senior yr in 1998 for Carb Day. Indiana thing
13:22 considering Ayrton Sennas greatest win was a sonic the hedgehog in 1993 sometimes the trophy itself isn't the biggest thing
Whoa this guy looks a lot like Jeff Gordon lol
It’s sad that the seats were pretty empty today at the cup race.
part of it is the damage nascar has done to itself running off the fans it had. then add in a horrible depressed economy.
bob is just so visibly un comfortable on camera, and IT SHOWS, stop making this great reporter, dont make him stand still on camera in focus let him be natural like neil bonnett
Very interesting topic! I look forward to new videos from you! 😚🍒
I have a modile car of that race in a limited edition box with a card of Jeff in the backround.
People from Sweden didn't knew who's Jeff Gordon is when i showing to them.
Everyone skipped school around Indianapolis to go to practice!
Yes he's the GOAT♥️👍 And my forever #24 and Champ.♥️♥️
Geoff Bodine still should have won if his brother didn’t wreck him. He had dominated and had the best car that day. My dad is a big bodine fan and deep down he cant get over this race
24 forever and I am a huge fan of Jeff Gordon the original racer of the 24 race car and the Daytona 500 Champion
I love how NASCAR is trying to survive off its past while at the same time destroy racing going forward.
Bob is so annoying I can't watch his videos

A HECKUVA RUCKUS!!!
It only took Bob 5 seconds to lie to us… Jeff Gordon was NOT a rookie in 1994. He was a rookie in 1993. Bob is just full of propaganda.
Maybe get the teleprompter closer to the camera next time?
I'm not a kid. But I wasn't born until 2000
You're a kid. I have underwear older than you.
2000 wasn’t that long ago.
Stick to print Bob
Dale always won the second one Jeff the first 🐐
I mean...the brick on pedestal wasn't the actual trophy...the PPG Trophy was too big to just hand someone...it was huge.
That holy ground mentality is stupid.
Nice Story but please stop shouting.
Why did he call it paperclip shaped >.< that best describes Martinsville or New Hampshire
Gordon would've been a 7 time champ if the sport didn't go to the chase/playoff format.
Is it just me, or did bob get a tan??
Tanya not Tonya 🤦🏻♂️
Bob “talentless” pockrass is reason enough not to watch this. Soon as I seen him I clicked off it
This guy has the personality of linoleum.
I predict Christopher Bell will win this weekend at Indianapolis
Maybe Bell or maybe Hamlin. All I want to see is a different Toyota driver to win the return of Brickyard 400
Hope you're right
STOCK CARS BELONG AT THE BRICKYARD
Shew. Bob's reading of the commentary is rough. He's not made for tv for sure.
Pockrass just does not have what it takes for tv, no matter how hard he tries. Historian, yes. Anywhere 500 ft near a camera, no.
This host is extremely annoying
The video is great, the interviews are great, the narrator is god awful
Gaaawd awful..!! I wanna watch this but I can't.. that host is TERRIBLE
Who is this dump truck host .. worst ever .. come on fox nascar
Bob is so hard to listen to
What Bob doesnt know is Jeff Gordon won the 1st Brickyard 400 but Earnhardt is the 1st man to win it.............................................................
