GRIMINAL!!! MAAAAD, I've been watching so many of his throwback vids in lockdown. Nearly threw my phone against the wall from hype. Hands down one of my favourite ever grime artists.
This was a nice surprise, I've always been a fan of Griminal's material back from when 'Mayhem' first dropped. Growing up in Newham, a lot of the youth who listened to grime at the time considered Griminal to be a grime icon. It's interesting to see how Griminal's style, and just grime in general has transformed over the last 10 years, we've transitioned from jumpy 140 bpm tracks recorded in bedrooms, to this more commercialised drill-esque type of music that has much more monotonous sounding beats. I think it's a welcome change; grime has definitely evolved for the new era. Griminal is very talented but his work ethic has always been appalling, he's similar to Ice Kid in that regard. I understand though, life can get in the way sometimes, especially in places like Newham where it would not be considered out of the norm to fall victim to knife crime and gangs. I hope the Nasty brothers both continue making music, it's good to see the old school grime virtuosos making a comeback.
Imagine Ice Kid, Griminal and Chipmunk were all on the same level at one point. Chipmunks had a successful career and is regarded as one of the UKs best artists while most people under 25 dont know who the other two are.
Man, I didn't even know I missed Grim this much. He was one of my favourite mc's from way back. Hope he's found some positivity and here to stay because he's got a cold pen in more ways than one 🙏🏾
