- So we really had no idea what we were doing but it has turned out much better than we excepted.
This project has really kept me in a happy mindset and I feel everyone needs to do more of what makes them happy, especially in these crazy times

Hi Ruth we have been looking at similar for a while now, but as previously said, prices are ridiculous here since covid.
People are selling conversions or even just old vans for thousands, which previously would have been little more than scrap. This also created a breeding market for unscrupulous people, scam artists, and potentially dangerous conversions. So looks like you’ve got yourself a decent set up for the money! Well done.
Standing room is a nice touch as I’m 6ft 2 and well built, although my wife is asian and under 5ft so not such an issue for her.
I think your van size would be minimum for us but great for some of the very narrow roads we travel in western Scotland and the isles.
We would probably need a small trailer or garage space in the van for transporting a sea worthy boat and outboard, that at the moment I transport in my small estate car when visiting the west coast of Scotland, which lets us gain access to many more locations only accessible by loch/sea.
I recommend loch Awe as a place to visit on your travels, especially via boat, and the Caladonian cannel, weather permitting.
You probably have much more knowledge on campers than me, but if sticking with gas you should make sure you have detectors fitted and low venting as lpg is heavier than air and you want it to be exiting the vehicle in a worse case scenario.
Depending on the time of year you travel, perhaps a diesel heater is a worthy consideration for our weather.
Magnetic midge netting also very very worth while investment that can be bought off eBay for pennies.
As for bed extension…perhaps a slide extension would be easy to make, or a hinged flap piece….difficult to say without seeing it in person.

Hey nice simple and clean design. Just one thing everyone seems to miss packing insulation wool into their walls and roof. Is there reasons?
I found my van one my second build with thoroughly done insulation was 10x cooler in 37+ degree days.
I done full sound deadening
Heat barrier foil
Full moisture protection
Full acoustic protection (light sound proofing)
Thermal insulation wool
Then applied my walls and roof. (All the electrical was in conduit and pre wired before insulation)
I had one person say when it was pouring down how is it so quite and like the waters hitting rubber ahaha worled amazing for quietness and especially heat and cold

Hmm, Bed at the front does kinda make sense. Could still also leave the back open to have the option of transporting long items, or putting pull out drawers under it. Also in a van with double sliding doors, means if your sleeping double, you wouldn't need to crawl over anyone to get out for a 3am loo run.
Yes! I’m really happy with that decision also you have a little more room for the mattress as it can go on the engine at the back. I would just like to add in some slide out draws (one on the side and one at the back, that is all i feel i’m missing 😊

You guys have amazing taste in music and your dad could be a professional camera man, the way he managed to capture all those great angles as he moved in on the close-up. 😂
Can I ask how you find living in a low-roof van? I want to live full time in a van, but I’m torn between a high-roof van so I can stand upright; or a Hiace because they’re bloody common in Australia, so cheap spares and it can be serviced at any mechanic. 🤷🏻♂️

Hi, I am also torn between a bigger van and more reliable van. I think my next move will be a commuter as they are reliable but bigger. I do miss having more space. I hope that helped and sorry for the late response

Whats the length from the bottom of the bed to the back of the van? Thanks I love your set up
The bed frame is 153cm. It is the same height as the back off engine/seats
The mattress is 173cm and sits on the bed frame and back of the engine/seats which gives me the extra 20cm

We glued the timber frame and drilled into that 😊
Great work and good to see you working so well with your dad. Was interesting to see how you fixed the cross-bracing for the roof lining. But you do realise it's not that clever to show yourself on TH-cam driving down the street taking both hands off the wheel so you can put your seatbelt on?
