Ewers is a problem. As a coach you want to give your team the very best chance of winning. Ewers cannot move. Manning can. Archie can out throw, out run and everything else over Quinn. The team absolutely loves Archie and is proud to show it. Sark, this is not Ewers team, it is the U of Texas team. It is a disservice to the other seniors and the rest of the team to hamstring them with Ewers weaknesses.
It's a pickle, so let Sark do his thing. He knows better than anyone else. As much potential Arch has shown in minimal plays, I don't count his starts against inferior teams; Arch is not ready for the likes of Georgia's defense. If you've seen his plays in high school against more formidable defenses, he is prone to turnovers. He tends to force throws even in tight coverages, relying on his arm strength, and it was a disaster. Sark knows this. Next year is Manning's year, not now. He needs serious development in his decision-making. He can play some pivotal roles, but only part of the offense.
To be honest, if Texas is smart, they should start ewers, which will force their opponent to game plan for a non mobile QB, then bring in Arch which will completely destroy their plan
People aren’t talking enough about how Georgia bringing in their backup was the turning point in the game. The Texas defense knew how to contain Beck but it took them a minute to figure out the backup. Arch is not an unknown and there’s several games to evaluate him from, but athletically he brings things Ewers has never had. The big questions are Arch’s quickness on his reads and progressions and his judgment. Does Arch go into heroball mode too quickly? Does he know the playbook as well as Quinn? Does the rest of the team has the capability to switch to an Arch playbook, which would be different (maybe by a lot) than the increasingly limited playbook designed to work within Quinn’s limitations?
This is the reality. If Texas wins vs Jawja...We ain't even talking like this. He would be applauded. You can't miss 2 fgs and no ability to run the ball. Plus the stupid penalties. This was not all on Ewers. Plus he's not 100%
@secbillyg 1 more time. Its not ALL on Ewers. Yes he has his faults. And Manning needs to be a factor. Sark is NOT utilizing his tools. Last I heard winning the sec was the 1st goal. I'm pissed off too
quinn got sacked 7 times, he is like a deer in the headlights when the pocket is about to collapse. he doesent have that i am going to bit your throat out attituce to win.
When a QB can't move, you've removed a huge strategic problem for the defense. It affects the run game since no one expects the QB to keep it. It affects the pass game since no one sees the QB as a threat on the ground. Throwing from a clean pocket is one phase, eluding the rush with the option to throw or run is a completely different threat. I think you build two game plans, one around Ewers and one around Arch.
I believe they should switch arch manning just more explosive and has higher ceiling Quin ewers solid but nothing special he can’t uplift the offense everything has to be prefect for him
I agree , his leadership skill is almost 0 from what I can see. He does not inspire any of his team mates. He always looks half stoned or something. Everything has to be perfect for him is a very accurate statement.
Texas talent being "a national championship team with two insanely good quarterbacks, you can't afford to waste this season" summed it up perfectly. I couldn't agree more that Manning needs to be the quarterback if Quinn can't get 'em in the end zone. Sark knows he's paid to win games. A repeat of the game plan in the 2nd Georgia game is unacceptable. As you said, Quinn got beat by Georgia's backup QB. I believe Quinn to be capable of handling being on the sideline if he's not producing on the field. If he's not, it is what it is, and he deserves to be on the sideline. The name of the game is WIN.
Manning is by far the better QB. I have been saying this ever since I saw Arch play in the spring game. My brother is a somewhat high profile lawyer in Austin, and he says that he’s heard through the rumor mill that when Ewers transferred to Texas from Ohio State, the coaching staff had to sign an NDA that Ewers could not be benched and has to start every game at QB when he’s healthy. It’s the only way he would go transfer to Texas and even though Sark didn’t want to do it, he had to, because they needed a big splash in the portal, and getting the former #1 overall recruit was that.
There is absolutely no way they will switch QB's unless Ewers is injured enough to not play. This is his senior year and he's carried them this far. Anyone expecting a QB change to start the playoff is a moron. It would be such slap in the face of Ewers and would set a bad example/precedent. Ewers has gotten the job done but the play calling has been atrocious in the red zone and sub par everywhere else. Texas passes the ball behind the line at least 60% of their passes. Stop doing that because 90% of the time they are tackled back there setting them up for 3rd and long. Completely remove screens from Sarks playbook and you have a team that can win.
The play calling has been fine. It’s Ewers execution when it matters is where he is suspect. He absolutely has not carried Texas. The Texas Defense has. If it weren’t for the longhorn D being as lights out as they have been this season Texas could easily have two more losses on there schedule. The Kentucky game was not a gimme and towards the end of the fourth A&M was not either, same with Arkansas. This isn’t about Ewers this is about winning, and Ewers has absolutely regressed as a player since last year and he can not stay healthy. He’s been injured and missed games every year he’s been at Texas. That alone is a draft stock killer. Nobody cares how many passing yards per game you have if you can’t score when it matters. He makes bad reads and panics when the pocket collapses and has almost no ability to extend plays any more. Pulling a QB at the last second is not unheard of. Saban did this with Tua to Jalen hurst to beat Georgia in the national championship and the rest is history. Ewers feelings are not to be considered, you either execute and win or find somebody else that can. Arch is young and inexperienced, but is a vastly better athlete, he’s much bigger than Ewers and has far more up side potential than Ewers ever will. Texas went through this with Vince Young he had a learning curve as well and came out that 05 season and went absolutely nuts. Arch could have a similar trajectory, but Ewers absolutely does not have that trajectory and never will.
It’s about scoring points, not statistics. I like Ewers however points are not being scored in the red zone. Mac Browns first year at Texas his starting QB was Richard Walton. His statistics were good but point production was low. During the game with UCLA, Texas was getting hammered. Walton suffered a broken arm and Major Applewhite came in and all of a sudden Texas started scoring points. Still lost that game because they were so far behind. Texas finished 9-3 that year I believe. The word on Applewhite was that he sucked in practice. However he was a different QB in games. Arch needs to be the QB in the red zone.
He doesn't seem very clutch in the biggest pressure situations. Many QBs have the same problem. You won't know if Manning has what it really takes until it is his job. Not just coming in as a relief pitcher.
Idk if Texas coasts. ASU has the best player in college football that no one talks about and I would never bet against Dabo in big time games. Of the four favorites to make the final four Texas has the hardest path tbh.
He's had his problems with injuries, 3rd quarter slumps. However, Quinn had a good enough (winning worthy) performance against Georgia in the SEC championship, team loss all the way around, special teams, O line, D line. Coaching was the worst part of the last game.
If Ewers is struggling to put the ball in the endzone during the Clemson game Manning will start in the 3rd. Being a heavy favorite at home you cannot afford for Clemson to feel themselves and upset you on your home turf.
We got too much talent to be playing like this! Quinn is a great QB and leader, but a team that has as many penalties as we have had will never win the big game! Just too undisciplined this late in the season and that’s on the Coaches! Fingers crossed. Hook Em!
Quinn Ewers passed for 358 yards on a good Georgia defense and threw a perfectly placed ball in the end zone that was dropped. Quinn Ewers is not the problem. The red zone play calling is the problem. Run downhill. Pass forward.
Yes, the play calling is a problem, as is the inability to run the ball against tough opponents. O-line problem? Plus, because of Ewers' immobility, he can't evade the rush. Manning can. Almost everybody agrees that Manning will give the Longhorns the best chance to win a national championship. But coach Sark seems totally committed to Ewers. I don't see him making a change, even if the offense can't move the ball. Because of this, Texas will not win the championship.
I disagree, Ewers has played small in big moment several times in his career. I cringe every time he drops back to pass wondering if he’s gonna float out one of those cheap easy interceptions again.
Champion competition requires the best be playing .. Manning can take TX forward .. He's got the Size, Legs, & he fires up the OL + the TEAM. We're outa regular season the QB1 did his job .. Now let's win the Championship .. Play the Best QB Manning
I believe anyone objective watching the last several games knows the offense leaves too many points on the filed and way too many stupid penalties.. Defense is the only reason we are still in this. Stark will not pull Ewers for whatever reason, so guess we have to grin and bear it
Arch didnt "absolutely lit it up" in his 2 games. He had 2INT and 50% completion against a less than average ULM defense and the offense stalled passing the ball.

Texas is a very good time with Ewers being the weakest link. We should have won every game by at least 21 points a game
This is the reality. If Texas wins vs Jawja...We ain't even talking like this. He would be applauded. You can't miss 2 fgs and no ability to run the ball. Plus the stupid penalties. This was not all on Ewers. Plus he's not 100%

How about the interceptions and fumbles?
@secbillyg 1 more time. Its not ALL on Ewers. Yes he has his faults. And Manning needs to be a factor. Sark is NOT utilizing his tools. Last I heard winning the sec was the 1st goal. I'm pissed off too
Not sold on sark play calling
quinn got sacked 7 times, he is like a deer in the headlights when the pocket is about to collapse. he doesent have that i am going to bit your throat out attituce to win.
Arch is just better than Quinn
Arch is mobile, can throw down field and is a leader. Quinn fails at all phases.

If both Georgia and Texas are fortunate enough to meet in the finals, maybe you will see Arch in the red zone.

Yea sark has lost his mind I am sure of it. They put the stats up during the game. Sark is doing the equivalent of fighting purposefully blindfolded

It's simms and applewhite all over again!

Totally agree!
Quinn is very average !!!!

Not sure about Dewars. We get no points. Snark better wake up!
I like the guy (Ewers), but we need to make the best decision for the team. If Manning gives us a better chance to win...it's an easy choice!
Quinn can not win or lose by himself.

The ball should have been caught but that wasnt an perfectly placed ball. As a back shoulder fade route - it was severly underthrown.
most of the passing yards were after the catch
I disagree, Ewers has played small in big moment several times in his career. I cringe every time he drops back to pass wondering if he’s gonna float out one of those cheap easy interceptions again.

Seen all,Texas games this year....Manning needs to be invloved in,about 10 -15 plays.....to off set tbe opponents....
🤘✝️
We're the only team in the playoffs for two years in a row, but to this novice we have a quarterback problem? Hilarious.
Time to move on into the future. Yes they haven’t beat a top team yet.
Arch didnt "absolutely lit it up" in his 2 games. He had 2INT and 50% completion against a less than average ULM defense and the offense stalled passing the ball.
Such a tired take 🥱 yall will really say anything
