    Ladies! This is a great little mower - easy to push...very light. Get's the job done without loud noise or messy gas cans and it folds up. My son in law got it for me as a house warming gift. I liked it so much I ditched my gas trimmer and got the Ryobi trimmer as well. I'm in my 60's and it's almost effortless!

    Bought this one two weeks ago and used it twice so far. Takes a little getting used to with the speed control. You have to find the right speed for you. Being 71 yrs old, the faster speed is too much. Also noticed that when using the mower, the front has a tendency to come up off the ground and mess up you're cutting. Also, it's best that when you complete a strip and turn around to go again, let off the self propel. The drive wheels are in the back, and if you lift the front to turn around, it starts to take off on you. So, I let off on it and it's fine. As for cutting, it does a really good job. And not having to use gas and oil, I just love it. And I already have a second battery for it. Last fall, I bought the Ryobi snow blower and it uses the same exact battery as the mower. So now, I have two batteries for both machines. Cut the grass yesterday, the whole yard, and went through the first battery, and a quarter of the second. Love Ryobi tools. Also have the pole chain saw, weed whacker, brad nailer, drill, sander. Most of those use the One+ which is so convenient.

    Have had this mower for a few weeks, for the size of my lawn, small, it works great multiple uses before a charge. Another great ryobi product

    I have the standard 20 inch, non self propelled purchased 2 years ago, kept quitting/stopping on me. Checked with ryobi saying it was a loose connector, you tube also said the same thing. Tried tightening but kept on quitting. After the 4th call to Ryobi they said it was guaranteed for 5 years and authorized its service. 5 years, unheard of these days, tells me they stand behind their products. So now waiting for it to be returned from servicing. Needless to say I love this machine and am really impressed by their warranty. Highly recommended. Mike in British Columbia, Canada

    I just bought this mower, works great! I do, however, I find the front end light, so it tends to float or wander a bit, easy fix though, just added some weight in the front storage compartment. My wife even likes the mower, due to the ease of use, she likes to mow the dogs grass area of our yard, she can drop in a battery, set the height quickly, and off she goes. If she gets stuck in a hole, she just gives the self propelled levers a squeeze, and back in business. We haven't run out of battery power yet, but I also have the chainsaw, which uses the 5ah battery. So far, money well spent.

    After much research I went with the Ryobi 40 v self-propelled ... absolutely love my new mover ... it's quiet, cuts perfectly and now easy to store in my garage and got rid of all my gas cans, oil cans and stuff.
    I have a small kidney shaped lawn so I knew this was the way to go and I was glad I purchased the Ryobi. Go get one !

    I have the non self propelled version and it is absolutely awesome. I do mow at night because I can. My bag fills all the way. The weed walker is equally awesome. I have the one with all the attachments. They all work great. Very happy. No buyers remorse at all.

    Lightweight is good and what did I use it for it’s a lawnmower th-cam.com/users/postUgkxTPN04aT-Qdjr_KS3ql7ng8wnU3wwsCqk also recommend Yes it is lightweight so hence not as robust as our old one. But if you take care it does the job really well.

  •  4 ปีที่แล้ว

    just got one yesterday with the 6ah battery... its amazing! my mom loves it... she enjoys cutting grass and with her health i wanted something more lightweight and this did the job perfectly!

    I bought this mower and edger secondhand for $115 without the battery. I have a much smaller Ryobi mower from 10 years ago that is still holding up, but the deck size is smaller than this one and now we have closer to half acre so I wanted the 20’ deck. I have two boys who love the self propelled, and with automatic switch off, I don’t worry. If you buy this, be prepared to stock up on the 40V batteries. They aren’t cheap. I bought 2 more on Amazon because the original one barely works and my second one only did 1/4 of the yard before dying. The bag only fills halfway before backing up, even in dry conditions. I like not having gas and that it folds down compact. Ryobi mower is a good machine, but if you have a larger lawn, consider the cost of buying extra batteries or it will take up your whole weekend spacing out battery charges.

    Just bought one today, you can now use the self propell with out the blade engaged. It had enough charge to run for about 10 minutes to check it out. The guy at HD told me if I need an additional battery I could purchase another Ryobi product that comes with a battery (smaller Ah) for the same price as what Just a battery alone would cost just wouldn't get as much run time which might work for my situation as I have just under half an acre. But at 70 years old, I'm pretty much done with gas equipment.

      Great video. Appreciate the training. I recently purchased the 6ah 20 inch self propelled mower.
      I watched your video for trouble shooting primarily.
      My problem:
      Battery fullly charged - 4 lights on.
      Battery installed.
      Handle fully extended and locked.
      Mulching device installed.
      Key inserted.
      Issue:
      Bale fully closed
      Starr button pressed
      Speed control set midway
      Pull drive handles - nothing!!

    Still have mine and love it’ TIP: the original charger takes 4-5 hrs to charge a 4ah
    If you get the rapid charger it takes like 1hr 1/2 much faster’ The 4ah gives me 20 ish mins I don’t have a huge backyard so it works … but if you have a big yard I could see needing 3 batteries so it doesn’t take 3 days to mow it 😂

    Beginning year #3 with my Ryobi 40V push mower. It's given me some trouble but I thoroughly enjoy using it. Biggest complaints: the 3-1/2 hour charge time for the 5-amp batteries I own & the fact that I very seldom if ever can mow my back yard with one battery. Lot is roughly 1/4 acre w/house; not huge. Forty volts works if you rarely have tall/thick or wet grass & can mow in a practically perfect scenario. Love the all plastic chassis & super light weight. No need whatsoever for steel chassis for home use. Wonder if Ryobi will come out with a more powerful unit?

    @workshopaddict Maybe Ryobi could make this 20 inch mower run off two 18V+: 4ah, 6ah or 9ah batteries. Total 36 Volts!! I think this mower would sell tons better if it run off two 18v+ batteries!! They could even offer a hold down boost button for cutting thick patches with there new Lithium+HP batteries! What do you think?

    • @WorkshopAddict
      @WorkshopAddict  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would like to see them allow you to put up to four 18V batteries in it and have it be 36v. Give people the option to choose the runtime they want by buying the batteries that fit them.

  • @alluringming
    @alluringming 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I like the mower but i hated that sometimes you needed more than 1 battery to mow the lawn. Depending how thick the grass was sometimes we had to use 3 or 4 batteries. Even had to tilt the mower up so wouldn't stall, then remow over that same area. Im hoping the newer batteries have better charge and the new height prevents of new lawn mowers don't stall too much through tall grass.

      I use the battery that came with my Ryobi brushless chainsaw, which is a 40v 5ah battery. I also have a Ryobi trimmer, amd with three batteries on hand, I have plenty of juice. I have only used the mower once, but it works just fine for what it is, plus my wife doesn't mind using it as well, she likes to mow, for exercise, and I work third shift, so it doesn't wake me up while her, or my 12yr old son mows. For the price, you can't really beat it.

I like the single handle height adjustment and the compactness of this mower. I think a great deal would of been for anyone to jump into the sale also on the 40V series trimmer and blower kits that were for $99 each and you would of gotten more batteries and chargers. Unfortunately those deals ended July 5th it seems.

    Thank you for the detailed review. I'm also looking for by this unit without batteries (most probably used) and I have my 40v batteries bought for ryobi string trimmers. Can you let me know the followings;
    1. Does it work with previous Ryobi 40v OP4026, 94Wh (2.35 Ah) batteries? obviously run time will be less. does it fit and any Idea how long it will last?
    2. Can it used without Self-Properller mode? just as normal push mower? if possible will it hard to push without battery power?
    3. Does it good for thick grass cutting?
    4. Any recommendations on buying 'used' this type of mower?
    5. How to clean the unit specially underside? can you pressure wash or wash it with garden hose? how to do that.?

    • @WorkshopAddict
      @WorkshopAddict  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      1. It will work with that battery but will be underpowered and stress that battery significantly.
      2. It can be used as a normal mower and push easily.
      3. No, it likes to cut very little grass or thin grass as we show.
      4. I would not buy used as there is zero warranty and you have a high likelyhood of buying junk.
      5. You can spray it or PW it, but keep water away from the motor venting area in the center.

    It may be me. But when you spend over $300.00 for a new lawn mower and another $100 for an extra battery you should be able to go out and cut the lawn without it quiting every 20 minutes. They promise great things but it does not deliver. My yard is not very big and is level but I go down one row and it quits. It very frustrating. And keep rotating batteries hoping that'll get it to work a little better but no luck. I would not recommend wasting your money on this.

    I bought the mower and was going to get a second battery but the 6AH batter was 199.00 (wow) at HD. Instead I bought a 40v chainsaw which comes with a 6 ah battery for 149.00 so I got a chainsaw for free essentially. You can also get a Leaf Blower for the 150 range with a 4 ah that gets you a batter with a free tool essentially. You just have to be creative in your thinking and dont just purchase the battery, thats crazy. I dont buy no brand battries cause they typically dont have or keep the power of a Ryobi battery.

I have a 2.5, 3, and 5ah batteries, I use the 2.5 first and work up to the 5, recharging the 2.5 first, it only takes about 40 minutes and will be charged before you get half way thorough the 5ah. and your wrong you can use the self propelled feature without the blades spinning, just disengage the blade then engage it again without hitting the start button and just hold both levers, there you go.

      Thanks for your replies! My mower will not let the self propulsion work without the blade going. I just went out and tried it again, following your description. Odd.... Also, I am using the charger OP401 and my charge times are long!

      I bought my self propelled mower on the home depot website as well as the turbo blower. That way I have (2) 5 ah batteries. It's really quiet. I mowed my grass at 6am and none of my neighbors even heard it or at least complained about it. I researched the Dewalt but for the money the ryobi is the best buy.

    I can use the self propulsion system with the blade off, as long as the main lever is pushed down. If I don't click the button to start the blade, and just pull the black lever in then i can use the self propulsion without the blade on.

    I'm still not convinced with the lithium powered lawn mowers. I just don't think the technology is there yet. Thanks for the videos. #workshopaddict

    Thank you...how about cleaning it.

      Take a hose to the bottom trying not to spray right at the center where the blade connects. You can also use a scraper to do it dry. Wash the top with light soap and water and a scrub brush.

      I am thinking it would be easy enough to bolt on a galv steel plate on each side of the deck (outside) to reinforce the plastic and prevent the flexing. Of course, it would have to be painted black and green to match the deck body colors.

    Just buy the 6ah off brand batteries. They're half the price of brand name, and they use identical technology when you take them apart.

    I get gopher mounds at my house do you think this would hurt plastic deck, or thin blade? There is usually rocks in those mounds.

    • @WorkshopAddict
      @WorkshopAddict  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      making the assumption that you would not run over large mounds that you can see, no, it wont hurt it. If you use it to level the mounds out, the blades will dull fast.

    Great review Brian as usual. I will consider this mower for my small yard once my gas model gives out. I wonder how the bagging feature would do during the fall when leaves start falling. #workshopaddict

    Is the self propelled function good enough to do the " tie it to a pole in the centre of the yard " trick?

    I have thought about making the switch to an electric mower, but I have 3/4 archers and I don't like the idea of having to stop and wait for the batteries to recharge. I wish they had made the second battery slot active instead of making it just storage. #workshopaddict
