This was my favorite band in junior high and high school nobody else really knew their music. This was in the '70s early '80s... I hope you check out more, especially. I'd love to change the world...
Thanks. Never seen this performance before. Really one the best "forgotten" bands. "I'm Going Home" at Woodstock is the classic clip; Make sure you get the FULL version, cuz there is an edited version.
The greatest guitarist of the classic rock era that no one sadly seems to ever talk about. Alvin Lee was one of the first original shredders with nicknames like captain speedfingers, fastest guitar in the west, and my personal favorite, the man who played faster than his shadow!!
Alvin was known as the fastest fingers in rock\blues. Try, Help Me, live version, or I'm Going Home from Woodstock. Bluest Blues is a great blues track.
Sorry, wrong, it is 4 guys , there is an organ player! Ten Years After has been one of my favorites for over 40 years! All your watchers and listeners are going to request I'm Going Home , live at Woodstock, when you check out that one make sure it's the full 10 minute version and not the 6 minute version! Another good one from this same concert in Winterland is I Can't Keep From Crying, yes, it's about 12 minutes long, but well worth it ! Or I'd Love To Change The World, studio.
I’d love to change the world is their most popular song. Alvin Lee a very underrated guitar player. You might want to check out Frank Marino and Mahogony Rush for underrated guitar players. Ten Years after is a four piece band with a keyboard player named Chick Churchill. Another great one of theirs is Standing at the Station.
Thanks for the reaction!! This is a very underrated band, and one of my favorite bands. Leo Lyons is my favorite bass player and Alvin Lee is one of my top guitarists. Alvin didn't really show what he is capable of in this one. His solo work is awesome as well. Their name came from the fact that the band was formed 10 years after Elvis. A great English blues band and another is Savoy Brown. Check out "All I can Do is Cry" by Savoy Brown if you get an opportunity.
Alvin was my original Guitar hero. Air Guitared Im Going Home a million times. Choo choo Mama, Woodchoppers Ball, I'd Love to Change the World, .... Etc. A great Band led by a legendary Guitarist.
Ten Years After got their name from Elvis Presley, the guitarist and singer Alvin Lee's idols. Since the band was founded in 1966, Alvin decided to name it "Ten Years After" in honor of Elvis, who had his first hit record ten years earlier in 1956. So cool for a name.
A fantastic band, Alvin Lee is one of the best guitarists I have ever heard. I had an album called Cricklewood green and I played it until it was unplayable. They performed I'm coming home at Woodstock and it blew me away. So happy to see you playing one of my favourite bands ever 👍🏻
Alvin was considered one of the best guitarists around. You would love I’d Love To Change The World, Choo Choo Mama, Once There Was A Time and Positive Vibrations. They took their name as an honoring ten years after Elvis broke into the scene. They were one of the acts at Woodstock.
This is great. I’ve never seen that video, but one of my favorite albums in my collection is their 1973 double LP, “Recorded Live.” I was just texting about this band with my sisters a couple of days ago, after my youngest sister mentioned that she was listening to “I’d Love to Change the World,” probably their most known song. Most people from that 70s era didn’t know Ten Years After, or if they did, they would have only known of the name and likely couldn’t recall their music, but they would have loved “I’d Love to Change the World” when it came on the radio. And yes, it to is a great song, but more of a slower, bluesy, hippie, peace and love song. You certainly did stumble upon something great. Alvin Lee was a guitarist’s guitarist! All of his peers respected his ability, and many of the great guitarists after him were heavily influenced by his style and skill. He was simultaneously blindingly fast and extremely accurate, a forerunner to the shred guitar rock that would come twenty years later. I’m Going Home and Choo Choo Mama (along with Good Morning Little Schoolgirl) are two of my favorites. The 2013 CD reissue of their “Recorded Live” album I mentioned above has a bunch of bonus tracks, including a long “Jam” on each of the two CDs, with one over 16 minutes and the other over 18 minutes. I discovered this the other day when I was talking with my sisters and told them that I had to get that reissue. I’m glad you found them! Great reaction. I can’t wait for your reaction to “I’m Going Home.” The long version, as others have said.
Most notable by Ten Years After are their hit I'd Love to Change the World and their Woodxstock performance I'm Going Home.... Personally though, I have to say that my favorite is You Give Me Love Cheers!
Alvin Lee and Johnny Winter, too, had maybe the fastest fingers in the late Sixties and early Seventies. Try "I can't keep from crying sometimes" and the obscure one I love "Losing the dogs".
In 78 or 79, I saw Alvin Lee and Ten Years After with Black Oak Arkansas as the opening band. I'm not sure if it was this version of the band or Alvin Lee just hanging on to the Ten Years After name but either way it was a great concert.
Ten Years After are a British blues rock band from the 60s-70s. They had some great songs such as "I'd Love To Change The World", "I'm Going Home", "Hear Me Calling", "Love Like A Man" etc.
Check out Ten Years After at Woodstock "I'm Going Home", the performance that made them stars! Alvin Lee was a beast and one of the early rock guitar "shredders". It's a shame his name doesn't come up as often as it should when people talk about guitar heroes from the past.
They are a four-piece outfit, with Chick Churchill on the B3. Can't see him, but his presence is certainly apparent. Rock on! Oh, and there's Rick Lee on drums and the very impressive Leo Lyond holding down the bottom end.
Ssssh is an album I bought and what an album. Alvin was such a virtuoso. Leo Lyons is the bassist and is still alive and kicking at 80! They were a Brit band, of course! Another guitar player to check out is Rory Gallagher and the band Taste (an Irish band).
That bassist was in BEAST mode!!! Even while Alvin was shredding the guitar, that dude didn't let up an ounce. That was fire from beginning to end. i think I only knew one song from them, I'd Love To Change The World, which is still a classic rock radio staple! 🤘🤘
I saw them in 1972, my first concert and you can never forget them! Ten Years After. Concert Details. Date: Saturday, April 29, 1972. Venue: University of Pacific Football Stadium. Location: Stockton, California, United States.
All Winterland concerts sound great!! Another big hit is Going Home, must see live. Have you seen Humble Pie with Steve Marriott on vocals? Similar sound.
This is actually a cover of a blues standard, first recorded by John Lee "Sonny Boy" Williamson in 1937, I would highly recommend you check out some of their original tracks, "50,000 Miles Beneath My Brain", "Love Like a Man", "Working On the Road", "If You Should Love Me", "One of These Days", "Hard Monkeys", "Religion", "Standing at the Station", "I've Been There Too", "Think About the Times", and their live performance of "I'm Coming Home" at Woodstock got them noticed in America. One of my favorites, Alvin Lee is an amazing guitarist, remarkable and unique singer, he has some solo stuff, too, my favorite so far is "The Bluest Blues".
Alvin Lee is a beast! I saw him solo in 85', maybe 86'. It was a nice theater show and we were like 4th or 5th row. Roger McGuinn(The Byrds) was first, then Alvin, John Kay(Steppenwolf) was the headliner. That was a helluva show. You might have heard "I'd Love To Change The World". "Choo Choo Mama" is my fave TYA song, it's definitely a banger!
You did stumble onto gold here...lol.. Alvin was one mean guitar player. You gotta do his "I'M coming home " from Woodstock or his version "Bluest Blues" with George Harrison totally awesome. Great underrated band.
Hi ! yes...been listening to Ten Years After since the 70s ! this song is great but not the most popular ! you ll see when you play more ! can t wait till you play the big hits ! Brings old but good memories ! lol !😎

The lead singer, Alvin Lee had a solo career and a couple of collaborations with George Harrison. Those are worth checking out and also 10 Years After, doing I'm Going Home, live at Woodstock.
Their biggest commercial hit was "I'd Love To Change The World", also recorded live at Woodstock. Alvin also did blues. He collaborated with George Harrison on "The Bluest Blues" with George doing the first guitar solo on slide guitar. Alvin had his guitar crying for the second solo. That bass player is super fast. "I'm Going Home" at Woodstock has both of them going blazing fast!
I might suggest that any of the songs mentioned probably one of the best edited versions will be from their albums "Ten Years After Recorded Live (released in 1990" ; or "Alvin lee The Last show released in 2013" ; and you might enjoy "Alvin Lee and Ten Years After Pure Blues released in 1995"
You need to check out their performance at the original Woodstock..... a song called Goin Home. YOu won't be disappointerd. Make sure you listen to the full version. Because there are some shorter versions on YT. Kurt from Maine Goin Home is a must listen for rock players!
The best life video from is is at Woodstock “Going Home”. Have a look at it. Lee was just one of the phenomenal English guitarists at that time. Now, like many others we produce noting and many like me would be quite happy to leave this country.

Funny that you mention Joe Bonamassa, the guitarist of Ten Years After certainly had influence on him. Alvin Lee (the guitarist) was one of the greatest of his era. Up there with Hendrix and Clapton. Not mentioning Page there as he used to stand in the back watching how this guy was pulling it off. ;-) They were a 4 piece band by the way. You heard the organ correctly. Johnny Lange covers this tune, better production and a bluesier style to the riff but these guys rocked man if can play it live it's genuine . They need to reel in these ticket scalpers / ticket monopolies ,funny how it was illegal till they give the Industry to the suits it ruined live music.
Oh no, not this version!!! It's creepy for an older man to be singing this song. You were supposed to watch the Jonny Lang version where he's still 16 years old singing this song and it's not creepy. And it's also a better performance as well.
At Woodstock in 1969, Ten Years After, on Saturday evening stole, the whole show. This is why Hendrix never appeared on stage until 5a.m. on Monday morning : and, the hippies with their, it's so beautiful man, love and peace for all man, music speaks to the sole of everyman, man...turned their backs on them, because they were a British band. I hope it chokes!!!

A forgotten band, once at the top of their craft. All albums are good. Their most popular songs are I'm going home and I'd love to change the world.
The one to watch is "I'm Going Home" from Woodstock.
Amen. And ideally, the long version. I can't believe how many legendary performances this festival produced.
I was thinking the same thing!
Love Ten Years After and Alvin Lee! ❤👍🙂
Of course everyone will point to their groundbreaking "I'ld Love to Change the World"... The band was FANTASTIC

Alvin is a goat. One of best concerts I ever attended was Ten Years After. Hope you do more of them.

I was at Woodstock. Want Deets?
Oh boy!!! 🤣😂
lynyrd skynyrd got a great show from winterland
I think I covered a song from it on the channel! 🤘🏻
Johnny Lange covers this tune, better production and a bluesier style to the riff but these guys rocked man if can play it live it's genuine . They need to reel in these ticket scalpers / ticket monopolies ,funny how it was illegal till they give the Industry to the suits it ruined live music.
No need to be embarrased that you never heard of them. You were born too LATE! Now you know,
Oh no, not this version!!! It's creepy for an older man to be singing this song. You were supposed to watch the Jonny Lang version where he's still 16 years old singing this song and it's not creepy. And it's also a better performance as well.
I’ll have to check it out! 👍🏻
Try I'm going home. The best live.
