I've become a fan of 1:144 as lovely little simple builds where you only have to worry about the final outcome and not really any detail. They can sit alongside a much longer, detailed large-scale build. They are also great for prototyping ideas: I have a number of 1:144 TSR2s and I'm using some of them to work up ideas for the 1:72 and 1:48 versions I also have.

And then see if I can change the span and wing area for better high-altitude loiter and manoeuvre (canards?) Not something I'd want to try out on the silly priced Ebay 1:48 version!
Thanks for reminding us of Revells misery. They really needs to restart their business with a model that we miss on the market in a nice tooling and proper box and continue with their present decals. Revell is sitting in the dust from all the new innovative brands overtaking them completely. How many 1/72 F-35 A Lightnings do we need? Revell deserves better.

I’m fairly sure Academy has just released the 1:72 Challenger 1 and that is the Revell tooling. In fairness it looks like a good kit but I reckon the Revell release will be more expensive.
For me reboxing of odl matchbox 1/76 AFV kits by REvell is great. They can still be built into nice model. I am tryinf to collect all of original Matchbox kits. Small base for diorama is included and for me it is geat option.

So calling us Central Europe kinda fits. But nowadays we are undoubtly a part of the western world (EU, NATO, democracy) (Slovakia tends to go east, maybe they need to enjoy some more misery :D) Because of our history (nazi and soviet occupation)we are much more sensitive to some movements in the society than westerners who did not experience this. Revell is quite capable of making good kits at good price points. For example, the German heavies (1/72 fw200, ju290, bv222, he177) were all good kits and reasonably priced when they came out. These days revell is expensive in the US. I can’t justify paying those prices for a matchbox repop that I can buy for a fraction of the price on the secondary market. That’s IF I even wanted a matchbox…. As for an F-35, really? When everyone else already has one out? That’s a waste of development money.
The Revuelto? Great, a new Lamborghini! The tractor I will most probably not buy but it seems cool, and the 1/48 Tornado I'll most probably get due to the decals. But why all the reboxes of those ancient kits? I'd much rather have 5 new kits like the Revuelto where I am shown the entire production than 20 kits, 3 of which are new, 5 of them are 10 years old and the rest are older than me.

Yes they do when they get there stock refilled. Also alot of the kits I would like to get are on back order or the prices have went up. This makes the US kits cheaper. I have gotten one kit in 72nd scale of the f-15 that is removed for the states. Got it with 40% off at hobby lobby . Oh a couple of other things. One the closest hobby shop are selling all there revell,monogram,airfix and any other brands like lingburg. There will not be stocking them again. Wish when I was up there that i could have bought some. A lot of them where good kits but got me some armor this time. To let you know that hobby shop is about 135 miles away or 220 km which every you chose.
I probably have over 100 kits in my stash and only one of those is Revell, which tells you something. The majority are Tamiya, Takom, Meng, Trumpeter, Border, ICM, Miniart and Airfix. The fact that Revell are only planning now to bring out a 1/72 F-35 when the market is already inundated tells me something is seriously wrong with the company. I already have the Tamiya 1/72 kit which is state of the art and a miracle of injection moulding technology so I wont be looking at the Revell offering period.
Revell are one of those companies that is circling the drain and will soon disappear, even more so as the new kids on the block are getting new, high quality kits out there quickly and people want to buy them. Revells business model seems to be to target new\casual modellers by exploiting long dead cash cows. Sadly this is likely to discourage new modellers rather than encourage them toinvest in the hobby and carry on - obviously with a knock on effect for the rest of the industry. Hopefully the January announcements are not ancient toolings in new boxes.

Well there certainly was not a lot of fanfare from Revell regarding “new” releases. In a way I feel sad for them. The Eastern European companies are not sitting on their thumbs, they will tell Revell to “hold my beer, and watch this”. The dinosaur companies take way too long. An example is the Chevy Blazer from a tv show that is long gone, and that 1/144 combo set from 50(!!) years ago. It’s not for the sake of nostalgia. Arma and ICM and others know it’s their time now to step up to the A-List now. I say welcome.
Nonsense. Revell is almost no. 1 company in new model development. The customer service is second to none. Try to order a spare part from aoshima or even Tamiya and you will recognize the difference.

I hate reboxing old kits…except when it’s a Matchbox kit. They still hold up despite their age so I’ll be getting that tank transporter.

I agree that Revelll SHOULD have the dates of the tooling on the box but des it really matter if they are old kits IF they are a good kit?

The 1/72 Luft-46 and 1/144 Modern jet kits were wonderful (South Korean toolings?), the Tornado and Tomcat are great examples.

I just don’t bother with Revell. There are way to many other manufacturers making quality kits to even waste time with Revell.
