    Just attach a piece of old air hose to an old 3M undercoat gun and stick said old hose into bag of blasting media and PRESTO! Instant portable soda/sand blaster.

    Pete. Give harbor freights $30 50lb siphon blaster a try. I like mine! I run fine coal slag from tractor supply through it. 50lb bag is $9. I imagine you may be to use soda through it.
    I did areas under my Plymouth Fury with it and was surprised at it's output. A couple recommendations. Cut the feed hose to half the length, that'll give you a spare. If you want to try another hood. Tractor supply has the EXACT hood I've seen go for $47 for $23. It's a "deluxe" hood. Fairly decent.
    Good luck and thanks for the video!

    I bought a H/F sandblaster. Nothing I could do ever got it to work. The only time it did anything was when someone else picked up the tank and shook it while I tried to use it. A real piece of crap ! Now it just takes up space in my garage.

      When I first started shopping Harbor Freight 25 years ago their stuff was so dirt cheap it didn't really matter. Something like this soda blaster would have been maybe $35 and come with a lifetime or 2 year warranty. Now all their stuff is 80 to 90% the cost of a retail brand; that actually works and only comes with a 90-day warranty. That is unless you pay extra money on top for a one-year. And the best part is you can't trust any of the reviews because they openly state on their website they only post the reviews they want and remove reviews that they deem unnecessary.... They've turned from selling cheap junk to being dishonest about selling the cheap junk.

    I’m going to nominate this as one of the best videos of the year. The wife and I were almost out the door for Harbor freight when she suggested that I look up a few reviews on the soda blaster. It seems you saved me a major inconvenience.
    Funny, I had previously gotten into sand blasting with both Harbor freight and tractor supply equipment and materials. Many of the fails you experienced were similar to my experiences with sandblasting.

    I wouldn't buy a HF soda blaster when you could get a quality one for about $10 more, but this is the worst "review" I've ever seen. Some drunkard stutters and rambles on for 21 minutes before even using the product (most reviews are four minutes or less) and then when he goes to use it, he tries sandblasting with it. Like, I know it's junk, but NO soda blaster is going to remove rust, epoxy enamel and epoxy primer from a steel trailer like that, especially at such low PSI. That's what sandblasters are for. Soda blasting is for stripping buildup off of delicate parts, like carburetor bowls, not for stripping epoxy paint and rust off of steel diamondplate.

    You didn't expect quality at the price. But if you were patient and didn't strip the plastic nut, read the instruction where it says how to start and what to expect, you might have gotten it to work. Now you're returning it. It was the wrong tool for that trailer anyway. Thanks for helping to keep prices higher. You needed the sand blaster.

    When you bang a ceramic nozzle on something, what do you expect.......for it not to break? I have one of these units and it works fine. Soda is very humidity sensitive. Instead of compressor air which is always contaminated with moisture or oil, I use nitrogen. I use this in my carb rebuild shop and have no problems at all. I think the biggest fail in this video is the operator.

      My experience with pressurized media blasting is first pressurize the tank , open the valve for media ,then adjust your air flow . This should keep your hose from clogging from a blast of media shooing down the hose all at once and clogging .

    • @the-dullahan
      @the-dullahan 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Exactly. I don't know what this dummy expected, but stripping rust and epoxy enamel off a trailer isn't what soda blasters are for. His review doesn't show the product is crap (don't get me wrong, it is crap) it just shows he's too dumb to understand the difference between soda blasting and sandblasting and their respective purposes.

  • @michaelheidgerken9612
    @michaelheidgerken9612 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    To begin with, this guy should not be making help or reviews, period. He has very little patients and very little foresight. As soon as I saw the funnel he selected It was clear it was not the right funnel. Funnels are very inexpensive and one has to dedicate the right one for the job. He could have used the one that seemed to be filling if only he had the foresight to trim the nozzle to fit the fill hole. Simply cut off the tip so you will have a larger hole. We could see clearly the funnel went all the way into the bottom of the v shape portion. That would have saved him time and us not having to listen to his foul language which makes him look as if it's the only language he knows. Ex-Marine so I have heard it all but cuts you out of the general population as the go-to person to listen to. This is the ongoing problem with free media. Anyone can make a video but few should until they slow down and think how to do it. If we practice we can all get better and then you become an asset. As far as the red feed line, if he would have just turned it to the side slightly it will plug right in then move the wand over to the verticle position in the sand and screw down the holding collar nut. I have this same unit and maybe if he had just opened it in advance and used it first to see the ins and outs he may have come up with these small ideas himself. The bible says to be slow to speak, and now you know why. Just a thought.

    For a minute there, I thought that hose was going to whip you in the face. ALC have really good portable soda blasters that you can get through them or at Northern Tool, but they are a bit over $600 for a 110lb 28 gallon unit. They work brilliantly. When it comes to anything that involves media, whether it be portable or a blast cabinet, 2 things that I learned the hard way, never purchase a shit compressor. Save your money cause you can purchase a really nice 60 gallon single stage Ingersoll Rand or Quincy compressor that puts out 12-13cfm at 90 psi for around $800. 2nd thing is, don't get a shit blasting cabinet or shit portable blaster, you get what you pay for when it comes to those. I saved my money and invested in equipment that I will use for years to come. Total cost for a good cabinet, compressor, and portable blasting unit was around $2000.

Poor design of fill neck = poor design overall. Throw it out and get your money back. Money has more value than this piece of horsesh*t. I will never support bad design no matter the low cost. • @jasonlee5317
    @jasonlee5317 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I admit that this is funny as hell, that aside this was the worst attempt at a product review and if people take it seriously it’s sad. The ceramic tip breaks when you let it swing wildly? No really?! If something doesn’t work perfectly (as most harbor freight tools rarely do), then you beat on it? Oh and my favorite part, let’s try to use soda to remove RUST and paint. The best soda blaster on the market won’t remove rust, they’re not meant to. So if this video was produced for purely comic value then it’s a winner! If this was meant to educate people about a product then it is still a good comic video that educated us on how not to review a product. Harbor freight is of course beyond defending as we all have to modify the tools to make them a better product. Pete you’re either a comic genius or a tool review nightmare but either way I laughed my ass off!

    Got to use it for what it's for. Modify the funnel. And maybe add some patients. Your kinda short of that. Very frustrated man. 😆

    Pete that ending had me in stitches😂 I had a guy move in next to me for a while who said he was getting an "industrial" soda blaster and asked if I wanted to go splits on an extra unit with him to blast full shells. I was interested until two 50l 2hp compressors and essentially a larger harbour freight style soda blaster turned up and I just had to laugh at the guy. Dude was adamant he was going to be blasting full cars with that set up🤣

    I wonder if this thing could be made to work with a few mods to the pickup tube?

    I borrowed a horrible freight sand blasting pot from a friend to do a truck bed...hoses burst, I bought better ones, nozzle wore out in a few minutes, made a steel one in my lathe, it clogged up every 2 minutes, rubber gasket on the filler leaked. I think it managed to sandblast me more than the truck body never again

    If the 50lb looks like it's built better.try it..might as well use up the Soda and you can always get a refund..maybe pete can get it ready for Sammie Slammy from Miami to the Demo.that would be epic.

    Sears siphon feed blaster from the 1970's is what I use. It looks like a siphon feed paint gun with a huge nozzle. Throw a hand full of marbles in and shake once in a while. Have no problems with it!
