It is hard to believe what she has done and achieved since this interview. The hardest working woman in show business, the most iconic second wave feminist, the best selling female artist of all time, the best selling touring artists of all time, Grammy, Golden Globe, most legendary pop artist in the world, one of the biggest private art collectors in the world, reinvent of fame and celebrity, humanitarian and she literally saved lives during the horrific AIDS crisis....and so many unforgettable artistic collaborations along the way. David Fincher, Herb Ritts, Steven Meisel, Jean Paul Gaultier, Fabien Baron, Sondheim... too many to mention! Just like in sunset Boulevard: "She is Big, it's pop music that got small" Her most iconic contemporaries are all dead: Whitney, Michael, George and Prince. She has no one to compete or contrast against! What an amazing life she has lived. What a ride! Truly one of the most remarkable personalities and stories of modern Time. I will be very sad when she leaves.
I remember as a little girl seeing her say she wanted to rule the world - up to that point I had never seen a woman so brazenly confident and sure of herself. You can see in her eyes that she knew she was going to do it. I've aspired to have Madonna confidence and I've love her since!
Behind makeup and lights, hair and surgery - all of which I find perfectly acceptable for anyone, as long as they feel better with themselves - I can still see that spark, that Madonna from back when. That's why she's still so relevant more than 40 years later. She's not just music, she's a work of art, who's influenced and shaped the world of pop, in every field. So grateful my lifespan has crossed the development of this woman's career. ❤
I'm so glad you said that, because although I'm more "sophisticated" when it comes to music, and Depeche Mode are my absolutely favorite '80s band, Madonna is my "guilty" pleasure. And it shouldn't feel "guilty", because although it was commercial pop, it was absolutely brilliant, and songs like "Live To Tell" and "Oh Father" are absolute masterpieces.
Everything was there from the start. The whole package. Not much added, just some fine tuning. She worked for it but it was meant to be. Madonna could’ve not been a regular person existing in this world.
She likes Holiday & Lucky Star better than Burning Up. But I love Burning Up. The music video is the most sophisticated before Borderline came along. And she knew where Cyndi Lauper was from ! I love early Madonna. She was so much more down to Earth, modest and even more likeable. :)
By Nov 1984, she was the most famous woman in the world. Like A Virgin came out and hit big. She was in the middle of making desperately seeking susan. People said at the start of production she wasn't well known but by the end of production she needed a body guard and was very famous.
Shes so sweet and charming and unassuming in this video. If only she kept this personality.... but unfortunately the massive ego and attitude soon came to be..
I get what you mean: this is pre-bodybuilder/weight training era. A la "Vouge" and the Sex book. Madonna was like Demi: she had a big "glow up" in her 30's, due to crazy body building and work out routines. She stills looks pretty here, though. She's 26 here. Peak? Probably 30-36. That was common in the 90s.

Honestly, out of all of the 80s style, Madonna herself and Depeche Mode are my best favorite.

The most successful singer of all time, certified by the Guinness Book, and the most intelligent ever.
She isn't the most successful singer of all time. Female singer - yes...singer in general no.
No lol the most successful singer of all time will always be Paul McCartney lol
Singer? Xd 😂 Whitney Houston was a singer. Madonna is a performer or a showgirl
40 years ago 😊
Queen of Pop❤️
Man, i swear I love Madonna. 🤍🌸🤍
Born to be a STAR!!!!
Lovely interview, she was very modest and humble back then.

So endearing!❤
Love her!

A superstar in the making. Already obvious in this video!
Sweet creative and free. The early days. Fame really took a toll on Madonna.
in what way? she just had one of the most successful tour of her career

Beautiful ❤❤❤❤❤❤
I’m still fascinated with the way she played with her mouth during these early interviews. Always biting her lips etc.
♥️
Thanks
I find it interesting. her accent is very unique and very demure.
I wonder which Holiday 'video' she's alluding to. One of the European promo spots that was re-aired in different countries?
Never text and drive! Never drive drunk! Please...stay sober and alert out there! Thousands die each year...
Modesty.....I love it!
Madonna has always had a soft spot for Molly Meldrum. They've had a good rapport over the years .
Interview was 50 years ago… Not 50
@@jasondotson9035 40 year ago 1984
I didn't know Madonna came from Detroit? I thought she was from Bay City, MI.
Green and still finding her way in the big bad world. 😊
1984
40 years*
It’s the 50th anniversary of the TV show Countdown where this interview featured. They’re uploading videos from all different years of the show

Hollywood US 🆕
She proves that not everyone looks best in their youth haha 😂
Are you serious? She is super beautiful, look at those eyes! This coming from a woman? Don't be so insecure and bitter!
She looked sweet back then in my opinion. Not anymore because of all the plastic surgeries.

A couple of lines she'll be ready to go.
