Actually it not really "new" with the 2nd person chase scene, there is a now forgotten horror series for the PS2 called Forbidden Siren where your characters has the ability to "Sight Jack" by using telepathy and see what the monsters see thru their eyes. In the last level, the final boss is invincible so your protagonist have to Sight Jack his view to find out where he is and attack him.
I don't think I've ever seen anything where the main antagonist in lighthouse horror was a moth thingy. It makes so much sense to as mothes like light. Usually it's either some eldritch horror (which this is I guess) or isolation and madness or Spooooooky ghosts. Imagine if this was the way the movie the lighthouse played out.
There's actually a third variation of the ending if you don't chase the Keeper through the trap door and merely walk away (like the cutscene showed), but I think there's only one real difference in it. (Spoilers) In that ending, the lighthouse does not come down, and you just get a repeat of the opening cutscene. This ending and, I believe, the shotgun ending as well, are called something like 'The Cycle Must Be Broken'? So the implication seems to be the 'moth man' is meant to merely chase the Keeper to the giant hole so that he falls in alive ('Bring him to me'), to be cocooned into another moth man (those 'visions' of the fleshy walls closing in around you). Killing him prevents that, breaks the 'cycle,' and brings down the lighthouse. The stuff w/ the underground city and the chest do seem to be a 'prologue,' possibly an explanation of how the island became 'infested.' In theory.
my one qualm with that is i wish the moths made papery fluttering noises instead of buzzing, since that would be both more accurate and more terrifying, imo

I can't believe there was a whole second game inside the game! It was pretty cool to find out that it was the island itself behind it all, trying to destroy the dratted lighthouse, since apparently the humans who worshiped the Moth God or whatever -- clearly humans built that temple complex-- had disappeared, allowing some mundane structure to be built atop it. Well now the ships will just have to fend for themselves, because... we don't go to -Ravenh- that island anymore (hopefully). Thanks for the video, CJU!
This is a rare gem of this kind of game on Steam. A lot going on, love the graphic style, and an interesting setup. Glad you played it through this extra ending!
This is fantastic. Explanation is usually the death of horror, but this is one of the rare exceptions where explanation, of a sort at least, manages to hold strong.
the Alternate ending is much better then the other one...know we know the island it self is alive and the lighthouse is probably not man made. getting to play the antagonist was incredible! i wish i saw that more often!
I seriously love the monster in this game, every time a horror game has you chased by a monster that’s not just a skinny, tall emaciated hairless slender knockoff or some ghost that looks like it hasn’t slept for 10 years, its a truly beautiful thing
Damn good imagination as far as shifts in perspectives! Imagine every game from the protagonist and antagonists views. Longer games, but we could choose which one we'd like to see/play.
One day i hope someone makes a super scary horror game about the Mothman and right at the end when you go to face him he just starts flying into a streetlamp over and over again.

I feel like this is the actual ending for this game, and the first one you got was a good ending but regarded as easy ending to some games where you could bail out of the story early
Nice. That explains a lot of the sordid details that the previous video didn't show. Honestly, in the first gameplay, I was expecting the chest to contain something way more important than a mere weapon. I felt that all that disc-collecting must be giving us a reveal in the end. But when I saw that it was a shotgun, I was pretty disappointed. Also, I found it odd when the main character had the 1st disc in his luggage to begin with. The only thing I could think of was that the man rowing the boat gave it to him (though it confounded me as to why he wasn't given all four to begin with, but this video answered that question and more). Lastly, I did make a guess that the previous caretaker must've been that creature, only because of the black puddles found in various areas of the house, as if it was trying to return to its old human habits. But even then, I felt that such guess might be a reach. I suppose it wasn't after all. Loved this game and I'm glad that you've played this through again to get this alternative ending.
Oh thank goodness, many of my questions were answered compared to the other ending in the previous video, lol. I also enjoy that it's longer and includes more gameplay. Really enjoyed this game as a whole and it was such a breath of fresh air with this ending. I feel like many games in the last year or so have really fallen short when it comes to their endings because they felt greatly rushed. And especially so when they have more than one ending with just minimal differences. However, that's just me being nitpicky about details. Thanks for another awesome playthrough!
THAT'S THE FIRST VIDEOGAME WALKTHROUGH WHERE I GASPED OUT LOUDLY and i've seen quite a lot of horror games. OMG. I jumped when that fricking thing attacked you in the sewers
The only thing that's left without explanation is how sometimes the basement (under trapdoor) is just a small room and sometimes it turns into those underground maze with corridors.
It's almost like 2 different games! All in all, an amazing indie game, one of the best you've played in months I'd say. Thanks for trying the second ending! PS : I jumped again while the mothman was waiting for you under the ladder at the start of the vid. I fucking knew he'd be there, and I jumped. Again.
Very, very interesting but I'm not sure if I totally understand what all happened on the island but I'll give it a try: One lighthouse keeper survived and took the box with him. I assume it's the guy who brought not just the box with a shotgun back but also the next lighthouse keeper. Maybe he didn't have the courage to fight against the moth or the island. The island or the lighthouse couldn't survive by the killing of the moth - without a sacrifice it died. I think the little mounds with the gulls in it were the moth's food storage. The hill with the strange trees was maybe a place of worship. The search for the medaillons could've been some sort of test or if we are worth it to break the circle. I have (like always) no idea if I'm right or not, but that's my explanation. ^^ The first part of the story was already really good but with this ending it turned into something special. I love such games! Thank you for playing it a second time it would've been a shame not to see this ending and complete the story! :)

(Spoilers) It's a good ole lovecraftian loop. Lighthouse keeper brings himself to replace himself because one way or another pre moth light keeper(who is him) died or turned. The two endings appear to be you break the loop shotgun style or lovecraftian God gets its sacrifice continuing the loop.
Man, I advise you to play "Gothic 1", in my opinion, this is one of the best games in the history of game construction. Of course, it may seem that is not the horror that you "specialize in", but very soon you will realize that is it! I hope you try this and understand what I mean.
No idea why you'd recommend a german medieval fantasy rpg in this regard. Generally speaking, it was a very flat game that aged horribly and had barely any lore
I think that was the man who brought the lighthouse keeper to the island and in the last video he said he was bringing an assistant back for him. So probably was coming back to drop him off.
