What is the power consumption while idle? If you know, please specify also what’s include: number of hdds, etc. to have a clear overview about power consumption. Thank you!
With a maximum of 4 core Xeon, can you estimate how many simultaneous 1080p video feeds (different videos) the processor can handle? 720p? I am putting together a training center, which will mostly be taught through video. Thx
Wondering what makes this thing 1.5x to 2x more expensive than the Dell T40, especially since the T40 also sports integrated graphics (E-2224G vs E-2224) and thus quick sync. Is it just the nicer build and much tinier form factor, and perhaps the 4 vs 1 NICs, or am I missing something else? Anyway, performance-wise, it seems that both easily blow away similarly priced 4-bay NAS units such as the Synology 920+ if used as a home media/streaming server, albeit at the sacrifice of swap bays. Tempting! :)
going from the T40 to the HPE, You get a 4th drive slot (sortta drive cages), 3 more builtin networking ports, can be upgraded to have a management interface, internal USB port, and maybe something i missed.
I love mine still figuring out what to do for storage. I have a 1TB ssd for esxi and just bought a 4tb sata for now just to use it and get my camera setup and a couple other VmS...gotta get that 64gb of ram first.
Sounds like you're progressing nicely. We were just talking about this server yesterday, we have two of them. Trying to figure out what to do with them next.
@@StorageReview ya i love the thing even though i am just getting around to building it up. I plan to do one of the cpu swaps you guys recommended. I have not set anything perminate up but Im kinda n00b to ESXI, I want to run it off of one of the scandisk fit usb 3.0's you guys suggested and just want to run the OS off of it. I think i might have it figured out but thats why I want to get it right before going forward but what to do with that pci slot... I might bite the bullet and go 10gig well see. Its kinda overkill for the house but i have a BBS, a scanner feed and blue iris off my main PC and onto that thing..Along with a freenas VM and iI think it will be good.. but the 16gb of ram sucks when just run 1 win10 VM lol.
Pant! Pant! Pant! Wow! I am so glad we decided to skip Gen 10 for the 40 regional office deployments Lack of ILO was the deal breaker on that.. Now I just need to know availability for Canada and whether it accepts clearOS abd Windows Server 2019 like the first Gen 10 did.
So far we know VMware installs well, check the video from yesterday if you didn't see that yet. We will see what we can do with other operating systems after the core review is completed.
lack of m.2 is just sad stupid, so you need to get pcie to m.2 adapter and hope it will work out and wont be loose... to have system and make use of the hdd bays... wonder how loud the system is at idle.
Can't argue the m.2 point at all, that was a big point of discussion on the podcast. We're testing it right now, not exactly fair to talk about idle as we have the case off of it at the moment, but we'll try to get some observational data on noise for you. Have VMware running on it at the moment with 4x SSDs.
I spend 30 minutes tryng to put the front bezel back...until I saw your video and the locks. Thank you!!
Haha me too.

The 64GB Question ... will it support two 32GB dimms? The older versions supported more RAM than HP docs said they would ..
ejemm we will have to try.
It does. I have one and have 2x 32GB ecc udimms
i cant wait to find one on the used market. would be a good survailence server i think
For sure. It’s a great system.
@@StorageReview thanks for replying. im sorry i didnt realize this was a few years old. still seems great if the prices go under 1k
@@SkysTrains yep. And it’s still the original hasn’t been refreshed yet.

Size primarily, and more storage. T40 has one more expansion slot though, we think. Haven't had one in the lab.

@@StorageReview I assume Proxmox will be on the list eventually
P. Wingert you can remote in and install when we’re done testing perhaps.
I've fired an email to my rep. It is listed on the HP website but with a contact us link rather then being able to configure and price.
P. Wingert our take is that’s because the formal launch is still two weeks out. At that time pricing should be more available.
I just wish it was possible to have redundant power supplies on a model this small or is there a better option in the series?
Muhmed nope. Would need to move up to DL160 or DL180 for that.
Maybe use UPS for the power from wall at least
Would be nice to also have 2x psu in it
🍁
I would love to get my hands on one of those.
Thankfully they're relatively inexpensive.
Thank you..,
Nice unboxing! Though it would be better if it supports high performance cpu of 10 cores or more
White Roll they have a lot of feedback for the next gen. Good idea.
Can you install a half height PCIE graphics card?
Does this system come with ECC! ram?
Depends on the CPU selected, Xeon does.
Does this have an SD card slot on the motherboard? Curious if it will support virtualization without using a whole disk or USB thumb drive.
Nope. There's a USB slot, but sadly what this really needs is an M.2 slot. We discussed in good detail on this week's podcast actually.
probably not vmware certified.
psycl0ptic it is, but you might want the RAID card. Without it you see all drives individually.
I'm confused. ILO doesn't support AMD Epyc ? That would be crazy ...
dupa jasio Ryzen is the issue
Wondering if it can upgrade the cpu like gen8 does...
fengtao kei we can ask. We tried some larger RAM today for fun and no go. We don’t have more of this class of CPUs to experiment with.
@@StorageReview OK,thanks a lot!
I think this version is too expensive. I have N36L and I went Dell route. Just bought PowerEdge.
We haven't looked at small Dell EMC servers, they're on the list.
How loud is this unit?
Pretty quiet. You might not want it on your desk but it’s definitely not offensive.
it does not support 64gb ram ?
It should but there are only two slots.
Is this device officially on the market? How much
It's in the HPE store right now, but not listed with a price. You have to fill out a contact form. Should be widely available very soon.
@@StorageReview It's available now. Available for ~560€ at Amazon
Can we use this as a ADC?

Win 10 Pro Support ???
uh, of course why wouldn't it?
crap!
can this be used with a Macbook Pro?
It’s a server.
