The looks can actually be attributed to Frank Costin, an aerodynamicist and brother of Mike Costin of Cosworth. He also designed the bodywork for a number of Lotus racing cars in the 50's and the Vanwall grand prix cars.
@@jimiverson3085 Jim I stand corrected regarding the aesthetics of the Elite which probably also influenced the later Ron Hickman designed Elans. Having said that Chapman would have signed off the final design of all the Lotus cars. As such I cannot think he would not have had some influence on the design. I always tend to credit Chapman with the design of the cars because he was such a childhood hero of mine and the driving force behind Lotus Cars, Engineering and F1 development. As a result in later life I owned and fixed many Lotus cars over the years.
@@wcads623 Chapman definitely deserves some of the credit here. He hired Costin to develop designs for Lotus, so he was clearly thinking about aerodynamics as a factor in car design. Look at something like the Lotus 11 (another Costin design) and compare it with the other racing sports cars of the day - other than the D Jaguar, it stands out for attention to drag among other cars of the time.
@@jimiverson3085 All Lotus cars of that era standout from the so called sports cars from 50s, 60s and 70s. The likes of Triumph Spitfire, MG Midget, MGB etc come to mind.🤢🤢
Design genius. But as the judge said when sentencing his finance director to 4 years in prison, if Chapman hadn't died he would have got 10 years prison for fraud.
Congratulations! This is is my favourite car of all so well done from Bathurst, Australia. Stunning scenery right outside your door too, thanks for sharing.
Unfortunately, the Federal Exhaust Gas Fun Ban Ordinance (BABVVO) and Transport Tourism Emission Restriction Federal Ordinance (TEBBVO) will soon ban driving combustion engines in public outside of proven commuter trips and transport trips, because then exhaust gas fun WILL be a traffic offense!!!!!! Furthermore, a vehicle tax of 30,000 euros for exhaust gas-emitting combustion engines was threatened!!!!!!!!
Chapman was an undoubted design genius - impossibly pretty car from the fifties, simply way ahead of its time😍😍

Brilliant, Kurt! I got a kick out of the creative parking arrangement. Nice to see the cameo from Greg.

Such a classic design, put it on the showroom floor today and it would fly out of the door.
