I want to avoid misinformation for the English speaking community: (copypaste of other comment) On a Japanese TV show called "Akko ni omakase" made a report about Hatsune Miku and their users, but they basically laughted of Miku and their fans, even they made an interview to a worker of Crypton Future Media. The japanese fanbase really was mad about that, Crypton apologized for accepting the interview, but the TBS (The television network, the owners of the show) They said they had nothing to apologize for. Then in (October 17 2007) images of Miku disappeared in search results of Google and Yahoo! So, on the image board 2ch (the "japanese 4chan") the ppl started to make theories about the case, It was said that there was a very influential advertising agency called Dentsu, who had a good relationship with the TBS. At that time, they were promoting a virtual singer called "Kyoko Date" and since Hatsune Miku was rising in popularity, it was said that they wanted to sabotage her, so according that theory, Dentsu allied themselves with TBS, Google and Yahoo! to do the anti-Miku campaign. In the middle of the threads about this theory, a lot of spam comments appeared (basically the majority where the pun "Akita Neru" came up) ppl tried to doxx and find out who was behind this (they found companies that had nothing to do with it) and as a joke they started saying that it was probably a Dentsu agent in charge of spamming.Then the joke came out that she was probably a pretty girl, so Smith Hioka took those comments as a base and illustrated Akita Neru. According to him, she is a low-paid worker from Den... ehem...DEN2, who dresses like Miku because she secretly admires her, but for being poor, her cosplay was left unfinished. I think she is far from being a "rival" even though in the early years she was seen as such, Neru has a very extensive history but I think my explanation is better than the one in Suwawako's video. lolXD

LORE: in 2007 miku was being searched so much online that yahoo japan and google blocked her name from being searched and the japanese wiki deleted mikus artical,people werent happy so artists on nii chan (japanese 4 chan) made a rival to miku being neru and aside from a few songs like triple baka she was forgotten untill mesmerizer dropped and she is now insane
