1963 1/2 R-Code Galaxie Update Jan 2023
It's long overdue and I appreciate your patience. Here's an update on the progress, it's been a long, slow project but it's close! We're waiting on trim to come back and have started the wet sanding and buffing process - those pictures will be added soon. Thanks everyone!

A quick picture slide show updating the progress on the restoration.
1963 Ford FE 427 Engine Run
มุมมอง 8055 ปีที่แล้ว
Early engine run on the 427 rebuild that's going into the 1963 1/2 R-Code 500XL
and a steel crankshaft instead of "cast iron"...
The heads are junk, rocker arm assemblies are even worse. And Ford would not improve them, so after running one of then(drag racing) for one year, it was history. The 427s were almost as bad. Today, these updated parts are what was needed 55 years ago. Which allowed Chevrolet to reign supreme. Another example of pathetic poor management at Ford. The 390, 406 should have had cross bolted mains. They had a cap shift problem by not having better main bearing support. I still think today with better camshaftst they could be a real performer with aluminum heads.

Yep Sounds like a farm tractor. One of the worst sounding exhaust notes V8 ever. Its always been a struggle for me to make these things sound good.
How many boilt it take to remove the body and is it the same on 64
Cast iron headers sound better than most aftermarket headers.
FE Power!
Your old man has way more patience that me doing something this involved. I'm eager to see the final restoration next year at North St. Paul!!
Yes, this has been a long process and patience has definitely been required. As of now there shouldn't be anything preventing it being road-ready by next spring!
Jeff, you've had quite a few views of the old man playing with that motor. Time to get his R code project on the street!!
Inching our way closer. Wet sanding and buffing while waiting for the trim to come back.
488 Horsepower and 543 Torque. Pretty awesome!
Thank you! I don't recall what the final numbers were. I think on one of the pulls it hit just over 490hp, like 492 or 494. I'd have to go look. I think the torque peaked in the 570-something range. Again, I'd have to go look. Maybe I'll highlight the peak values on it's best pull and add that to the slide show....
What happened? No uploads for 2 years? I hope everything is all right.
I've gotten way behind on updates. I'm working on a new update as I type this. Progress has been steady but slow... It's close now!
@@GalaxieGuysGarage Glad you're ok and everything is still moving ahead.
Great engine! It was the real start for the Ford FE engines in serious competition racing.
They're a lot of fun to play with. Thanks for dropping by and commenting!
What you can't see is the 5 other sections of saw horse holding the ass of that beautiful beast up......😉 *love my '63
My 406 is never leaving my sight. Finally found her & I'm keeping her 😁
Excellent choice Mike, they're getting harder and harder to find. Hold on to them and preserve them!
I couldn’t have said it better.
Music! Sweet music!
Agreed! Thanks for viewing.
Nice
Thanks
I. Need that in my truck
They sure are fun!
Beautiful
Thank you
Awesome
Thanks, they're definitely fun motors!
@@GalaxieGuysGarage Used to Run a 62 Galaxie 406. Great car and it ran strong from day 1
7.5.1 by the sound of it lol
Ha!
Love that mean sound
Thanks!
That's what the angels in heaven sound like in my world. All other V-8's if compared to building design are just box stores but, the FE engine is by comparison a cathedral. Such a good looking engine. I swear there had to be a style guy sitting in when it was designed.
They're definitely pretty unique in design.
I believe way down deep in my heart that GOD himself owns and drives regularly a 1963-1/2 , 427 Galaxie. That's how bad ass these cars were / are.
The would prove that GOD himself has great taste in old cars!
Dyno it
We never dyno'd the 406's...just the 427.
The 406 videos are from a few years ago, they're in the cars now.
People forget about the Ford 406, Mercury 410.
Agreed. Such a cool engine family!
i had a 410 and it was great should have kept it
Man those are hard to find!!
An acquaintance of my dad's offered it to him knowing he was into Galaxies, he'd been sitting on it for years and decided to part ways with it. Found the car, no motor, in MIchigan and so the two pieces became a restoration project many years ago.
waiting for updates!!!!!
I'm trying to get an update together....it's a slow process!
Ahhh, the Professor at work!!
Hard at work in his "lab"...
Sounds GREAT!!
