Ah yes, the most important thing on my mind after a Russian nuclear explosion... are my household electronics OK?? :)
Mines doing this. Trying to get ahold of A.O. Smith. Hopefully they stand by their warranty. Thanks for the vid.
Hope it works out. They were cool with me
That’s awesome! Thanks for sharing.
You bet! Right now it has a foot of snow on it and holding up. The nesting box lid is annoying because you have to clear off the snow to open it. Definitely thinking about modifying it.
@@gjacketsdo you think keeping the nesting box in its original place would make a difference? Also, do you know the estimate of what it costs to build this coop (without the run) and how long did it take you?
@@annechkan yeah the original nesting box location would help since the roof overhangs more and is closer. But still, I think I'd recommend a door like the vent door and a stationary roof. My build was about $1600 total. I had paint, tools, sand, and paver stones already. I think coop only is $1200. You can price out materials for both options. I can't give you a good time estimate. I worked intermittently for 3 months.
Hi there. My machine was making a popping noise and now there is no water coming from the cold dispenser at all. The hot is fine. Was your machine dispensing water and it just wasnt cold, or was it not dispensing at all from the cold dispenser like mine? Im trying to figure out if mine is the compressor since no water is dispensing
Hi, that is weird. Mine was dispensing water, just not cold temperature. So my pump was running but the compressor wasn't cooling the water. I'm surprised you have hot water but no cold water at all since it's the same pump. Even if the compressor is bad you should still have water coming out. Maybe you have a clog somewhere or maybe it's frozen?
@gjackets so I think it was frozen. I turned off the cold switch and now water is dispensing. Not sure how to prevent that from happening other than keeping the switch off and drinking the water at room temp (which I'm fine with)
Ah ok. That makes sense. If it's frozen then I believe the temperature switch is bad or the refrigerant is running low. I don't have experience with either but you might be able to find info elsewhere.
AO Smith sent me the parts but no instructions. Without your video I would have never been able to install the new parts. Thanks so much.
Wow glad to hear it helped you!
This only protects surges between Line and Neutral, what is called differential Mode surges. It does not protect from surges between Line an Ground or Neutral and Ground, what is called Common Mode surges. This seems a huge oversight by Siemens as many of their boxs have Plug on Neutral. That could be the neutral connection. If they has a pigtail that connected to ground it could provide protection from all modes of surge
I don't understand. My box ties the neutral to ground so I think it protects all cases.
On a main panel, the neutral and ground are connected.
Thanks for info and tips
You're welcome!
Hello, I have the same calculator, I have a horizontal pixel line in the middle that is disabled. I open the calculator and pressed everywhere on the entire ribbon to enable the line but nothing to do I can not locate the connection. Do you have a solution? Thank you
No sorry I don't know much about screens
So i took the top part of to check if that part inside the water was loose. Made sure it was fitted and then checked the hoses connecting the gallon to the dispenser. Cold water part still puts out warm water 😢 Idk what to do. Ive tried unplugging and leaving it. Still no cold. The snowflakes light was on but no cold water
Also the compressor is working from the sound of it
Ah well if the compressor is running then I'm guessing you had a refrigerant leak or that the compressor is shot. You could try to check and recharge the system with a piercing valve. If the compressor is bad then it'll probably be better to buy a new cooler
Thank you for this video!
Welcome!
Thanks for the video, just realized a couple of steps can be skipped (removing the nut/wheel and line connector) as the part comes with these on it.
Ah good to know, saves some time!
What TH-cam videos would you recommend to learn more about installing or DIY for this. I've always thought about how wasteful it was to have the heat dissipate and not just heat my water.
It installed just like any other electric water heater. Instructions were really good too.

Thanks so much for this. AO Smith sent me the new part with no instructions. Fortunately I found this video before I even received it and it's probably much better than any written instructions. I was able to complete this with no issue. Thank you !!!
Glad I could help!
Thanks man I have been having this problem since 2,3 weeks and driving me crazy. I tried premium fuel and it was kinda working and now it started again. Gonna try this tomorrow
Gotcha. After this video more heat shields rusted loose. I added more straps and replaced rusted bolts. Fixed the terrible metal rattle noise
@@gjackets did it rattle at around 98-100celcius or when its cold?
@@gjackets i checked mine at local mechanic but they said heat shields are tight enough😞😞
Mine was rattling hot or cold. Mostly at low rpm
exactly what i needed. The warranty on this equipemnt is bogus & I had to pay $82 to get the new part. The instructions were NEVER sent as promised by tech support. Never go AO Smith again !!! update. got the part several days after they charged me o/night shipping. The lower screw to the motor is a tough angle to extract. Make sure you use the new screws they send as the old ones are your typical Chicom junk & the heads strip. It amazes me that the only moving parts are cheap plastic that will undoubtedly fail again.
Ah no instructions is lame. I think they emailed them to me. Well glad the video helped
Just bought one. Works great.
Nice
We just got ours. It was surprisingly easy. We like it.
Hey! I got the same one as this but I have hot water flow and its hot, with no cold water flow at all.
Interesting. Pump must be fine if you have hot water. I'm guessing the front lever that your glass contacts isn't opening the drain valve inside because something is broken or disconnected inside. If not, there's an insulated tank on top that holds cold water. If that tank is empty then the float refill valve might be broken.
Yup, exact same problem here. Took it apart as you detailed, and lubricated it and then put it back together, seems to work at least for the 1st try but that black gear is definitely stripped in the same place. A.O. Smith should make that black gear out of metal not plastic to solve this issue. Obviously the lubrication wears down to the point that moving the drum is harder than the plastic gears can handle so the plastic gears strip.
Yeah I think they're aware of the design flaw
I've copied everything you did in this video and nothing.... what do you think it is then? I was getting the ice on the line just like yours, replaced the relay like you said and nothing.
I'd check for voltage and current on the wire going to the relay. If nothing, then maybe the circuit board or something else upstream is bad. Shake the starter relay to see if it rattles. If the relay is good and is getting power, then your compressor is probably shot or the refrigerant leaked out.
I lubricated the shaft and cam under the gear and got it to work again without having to wait on the replacement to show up. May only be a short term fix though
Interesting. Yeah my gear was chewed through.
Thanks, for the great video. Saved us from buying another system.
Good deal
Man this video helped me a bunch!! Thank so much bro!!

@@gjacketsThank You!
Thank you Thank you Thank you... the primitive paper instructions that AO Smith supplied were useless..... I wasted time and phone calls to AO Smith that could have been a simple process if one of thier engineers just put out a video like yours. Thx again
Glad it helped!
Good job, I'm a electrical ac fridge technician, I done the same accept I mounted the compressor outside real quite
That's pretty cool. You should share of video of it
Is there any way you can post a video going over the plumbing in of this water softener showing the flow of water from the brine tank to the tall Rosen tank I got a used system and I’m not sure of the flow order wether the water goes to the brine tank then the tall Rosen tank then to the house?
Sorry, this unit is all in one so there's no separate brine or resin tank. For this unit, you just have one water in and one water out.
What is this part called that you ordered? Just bought this house less than a year ago. AO Smith, just like this one, has the same issue. I will need to order this part to fix the problem.
drive assembly, Part #100238187
Can you provide a picture of the relay?
www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0CP1WKT1N?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title
Fyi - its 7/12/24 and they have NOT fixed the instructions on those screws (or the old parts you have to use). So glad I found this video. THANK YOU!
Haha interesting, thanks for sharing. Glad the video helped!
I assumed it was a wax motor. A mixture of different wax blends results in very predictable and melting points. Essentially when the wax melts it expands suddenly, pushing against the piston and opening the valve full force and remaining open until the probe cools a certain number of degrees below 210°F. This dumps the overheated water, allowing the cold inlet to fill the tank with cold water, thereby safely lowering the temperature and preventing the water heater from becoming a bomb in case the thermostat failed to shut off the heat after the setpoint is reached. Once the T&P valve cools and closes, the water will again overheat and the cycle repeats itself until the overheating problem is resolved The wax motor is used in many other applications. The thermostat that keeps the engine in your car operating at a consistent temperature uses a wax motor that is partially open under normal engine temperature and operating conditions. This allows for additional cooling capacity if driving conditions change (towing a trailer, driving up steep mountain grades, unusually hot or cold weather) Fire sprinkler heads with the red liquid inside a glass tube also use the same principle as the wax motor. Sprinkler heads come in various temperature ratings from ordinary (135 - 155°F) to 650°F (ultra high) . When the temperature of the glass tube exceeds the temp rating, the wax/liquid expands and breaks the glass, activating the sprinkler.
Yep I think you got it. It's a wax actuator/motor in a T&P valve. I've never heard of them before. Pretty awesome design. Thanks for sharing
I would expect that it is a wax actuator. Basically you blend waxes to make different temperature set points. Then when it hits that temperature, it will expand a lot. Probably a phase change involved.
Wow I have never heard of a wax actuator. Surprisingly used in a lot of applications. Thanks for sharing!
Incredibly informative!
Glad you enjoyed it
Wonder what is warranty timeframe? 1:22 So odd this many go out!
"warranty runs for five (5) years from the date of purchase by a consumer for mechanical and electronic parts and ten (10) years from the date of purchase by a consumer for the media tank/main control valve and brine cabinet"
Thanks. This is helpful. So this is a known issue for primo knowing how many views this has.
Yeah seems like a common issue for all water coolers. Not sure why they fail
Great quick explanation. I have hard water so I do need to change the anode often which is easy to do on an AO Smith.
Gotcha. You might want to try the Corro-protec powered anode. Mine seems to work well.
Thanks for this video. Like so many others, my AO started clicking and not working. The company was nice about it and sent me the part asap. One difference - I did not see any wear or breakage on the plastic gear. Maybe it became loose on its axis and started skipping. One other thing - I reused the original short hose, pushed it all the way in and got the key to click on no problem, but now it leaks a little when the unit cycles. I will keep an eye on it. I did not see how to change it at the other end, so left it alone. Any idea how it comes off of the other end that goes down into the tank in case I need to switch it out? Thanks again!!
I'd first try to redo that leaking tube connection. Clean it up some and look for damage. If it's ok then reinsert the hose into the fitting. Maybe push and pull on the tube some to get the fitting to seat. If it still leaks I believe the other end is a similar fitting. Push on the white part while pulling on the tube
Thanks for saying to check the part. Mine was different: QP2-4R7 start relay. The overload protector that came with it was different, but looked identical to the : DRB27N61A1; although it didn’t resolve my issue. I wonder if that part has to be the same as well? Thanks for sharing your knowledge. I tried, but the compressor won’t kick on. Still no cold water.
Ah sorry to hear that. Maybe you need a new overload protector. You can check the wires going to the starter relay for power too with a multimeter
Would love to see more depth of this
Nice!!!!
Thank you! Cheers!
WHY DOSENT THIS HAVE LIKES IT IS SO COOL!
Haha yeah it's pretty crazy

Sorry to hear that. Glad it helped.

Thanks for this video! Do you think you could share the link of the starter relay you bought? Wanna make sure I’m purchasing the right thing! Thanks for your help!
