    Definitely Military Police steel pot. After hand washing your cover, before it dries, stretch it back onto the steel pot. Work out all the wrinkles. When it dries, it will fit like a second skin!

    I use these 6 x 30 binoculars as my go-to for spotting dolphins in the sea near where I live. The wide field and low angular displacement makes that simples. If you need to home in on a dolphin once spotted, keep a pair of 10 x 50s handy and use those.

    • @militaryguy1
      @militaryguy1 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi David, the graticules are when you look down the lenses, they are to measure the distance away, that’s typically why officers or tank commanders had them, to be able to spot and target enemies at long distances. I have no idea about a manual but you could probably find something online!

    I just recently got a pretty beat-up M1 helmet with the front seam and a heat stamp number of 80A on it. I've asked several people in my family and a few associates what they thought it said with a magnifying glass with a light on it. And my cell phone has a magnifying app. I first thought it was 180A or 780A, but closer looking, I noticed it looked like a scratch in front of the 80A. I asked the others I mentioned, and they said their self it looked like a scratch and only 80A. Have you heard of that low of a heat stamp number? This helmet I stripped the paint off, it was so much different paints on it that I decided to do a restore on the helmet

    • @militaryguy1

    Hello. Thanks for the walk through. I have been curious about something inside the liner you may be able to help with. About 15:28, in your "Helmet Liner Inside" section, you see a metal nipple on each sides of the liner. Any idea what they are? Does something attach to them? I haven't seen anything attached to them before. When I see these for sale they are usually missing the nape strap and the chin strap usually isn't complete, common for the sweat band to be missing too or at least missing the leather.

    • @militaryguy1
      @militaryguy1 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi texasroots, now I may have gotten the wrong idea but if you watch my newest video, beginners guide to WW2 USMC one, at 11:48 through the video I show the leather chinstrap on the inside, that attaches to the small nipples on the inside, anything else on the inside would be the A washers I suppose that attach to the liner for the suspension and webbing to attach to, if you have any other questions or want to send me any photos feel free to direct message me on my Instagram page and I can probably help better on there!

    • @militaryguy1
      @militaryguy1 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      When those are used is high debated, there were solid green covers used in Korea but those are thought you have been locally made, then ones used by advisors in the early 60s by the Army, the Michell cover was made for the marine corps in 1959, I will have to look more into the covers but it’s really a unknown thing as without a contract date

    • @militaryguy1
      @militaryguy1 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      They were "experimental" in Korea because no new covers were being issued at the time before the Mitchell Covers were produced in 1959, there was 100,000 of them on consignment & were being sent over to Korea on the S.S Jacob Lukenbach but was sank due to a collision.

    Please remove the Schleuter helmet from the lovely Marmac ( M11) nam liner and super twill cotton Mitchell cover, buy a 1950's or 60's helmet to go with them . Take the awful 1960's chin straps off and replace ( bar tacked) chin straps ... this is a very interesting collection of bits and pieces .... yes , ww2 lids were used on Vietnam, but they went through a repurposing program, where they were stripped and refinished with contemporary paint and sand texture ( I have 6 in stock ) Post war lids are easy and cheap to find , ww2 lids aren't, non of these bits belong together

    Did marines wear the brown side as much as the green side because i bought one and it looks to be the person wore the brown side more as the green side looks like it had rubbed on the steel pot. I am making a vietnam war kit for the 1/9 marines and do you think it would be fine if i used the brown side instead of the green side even though it is not the time they would usually wear it.

    • @militaryguy1
      @militaryguy1 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well it’s all personal choice really as it was personal choice of the marine which side they would wear and if your kit looks better with the more worn side then have it which ever side you want Ethan!

    • @Oh_Hale_Nah
      @Oh_Hale_Nah 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You tend to see the brown dominant side more on Hills that'd been shelled/Naped, it was also more common in the Northern Highlands, but most soldiers didn't flip it because it was annoying to deal with. But like he said, it's up to you.

    • @theironcross2933
      @theironcross2933 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Your standard infantry soldier would typically use the green sude whereas mortar men and artillery men would typically use the brown side as they were normally in areas that have been leveled out using bombs or in holes in the ground which exposed the brown clay in the ground
