i doodle chinchillas and crochet :D
why i WILL NOT be going to anymore summer markets | how much $$ i made, crochet market prep
i went to my worst market this year (2024), and in my video i explain why i won't be attending anymore summer events because of this.
don't get me wrong, i'm still thankful that i made any profits because i have gone to markets in the past where i don't even break even, but right now it just doesn't make sense to invest so much time and effort into markets with such a low turnout.
i walk through a little of the prep work i did before the market, i take you guys with me during my market, and then i share some thoughts about summer markets in general!
do you guys go to summer markets? if yes do you have any tips to bring in traffic on such hot days?
Chapters:
00:01 intro
00:08 market prep
02:13 the event
02:43 setting up my booth
03:00 super not awkward interaction between a stranger and i
03:16 during the actual market!
05:09 how i make my display signage
05:39 discussing market inventory
05:58 going over what i sold
07:16 final market stats and totals!
07:38 why i'm not going to do anymore summer markets
07:55 keeping track of inventory
08:16 units per transaction
08:30 deals i have at my booth
08:54 wrapping up and leftover inventory

✨💬Asking ChatGPT to make me a crochet amigurumi duck pattern✨🐥 ELLLO! Where do you place the safety eyes on the ducks I’m making the pattern right now and I don’t know where to put them! 😭
So cute! Also what row do you place the eyes on the ducks im making the pattern right now and im not sure where to put them!
Just donate them. You really should have thought it through. Don’t claim other people works.
I hope I could watch the actual video vlog of your market day 😊
Forgiveness is easy on the youth. I like the idea of asking her what to do with the ducks. Thank you for sharing this video. How about a tag: Designed by….. ? I have been thinking about that as well. Best of luck Ashley.
I'd love to see how you make your own signage and tags, you have a great eye for signage and how to arrange things, also I like how you use your mesh cubes as a hanging wall, they are so versatile
Thank you!😊
This is incredibly reassuring to see. It definitely comes across that it's something you just got swept up in in all the excitement and personally I don't feel there was any malice behind it. It must be hard reading a lot of negative comments, try and remember to take some big breaths and remember the comments of those supporting you through this. Good for you for owning your mistakes, we all make them. x
I relate to tracing anime characters’ hair when making merch of them, I had to trace pretty much all of the hair when I made my hero academia buttons lol
@@cuppaint it’s a struggle fr😪

This is such a fun video!!!
Yay!
I’m so excited, new video! 🎉 Also, I’m sorry to hear about your poor experience at the market, but thanks for sharing your feedback, it is really helpful! ❤
🥰🥰🥰
“o you’re just here?” hahaha ily
@@maisondoby9782 idk why I said that😭
I think donating them would be great. There are so many options, children's hospital, homeless shelter, domestic violence center, church, or nursing home. Please do not throw them away when we have so many in need. 😊😊😊
Accepting and acknowledging when you screwed up is hard (and also rare it would seem) so respect for owning it.
It's isn't t just not crediting the creator the problem but crocheters have enough problems pricing their product with time and costs. Competing with a cheap chinese knock off is dumbing down the market. 😊
Guy I know that it is wrong to do this is already over and you need to stop hating continuously
I stole a free crochet pattern and got it manufactured into a plush.
As a crocheter this infuriates me
Credit creator and ASK PERMISSION to mass produce
Your plushie duck? I don't think so.
The other issue I have besides mass producing somebody else’s design is that crochet can’t be mass produced. So is it not crochet? Or is it crochet that’s being produced from women in other countries being paid pennies?
The mass produced plushies are not crochet from what I’ve seen
Maybe offer to give her half of them so she can use them then donate the rest🤷🏿♀️
you could disassemble them and make a biblically accurate superduck :)
I think this is just capitalism?
I personally think if you talk about a pattern on TH-cam than credit. Or you can say if you want any of the patterns I talk about comment below and I’ll drop it . As of markets it’s kinda being extra naming the every single pattern is too much. I have people come to my booth and ask me if it’s my pattern I just tell them they can look it up on your Etsy etc . I’ve also seen some creators have a google doc that they link You aren’t not obligated to share info about patterns unless in this case because you did obsess over a creators patterns due to good feed back. Maybe you thought there would be no repercussions because you are a small creator but I am glad you learned your lesson I hope to see you grow as a creator and im glad you owned your mistake
I think the suggestion of donating to a hospital would be a great idea!
It's good that you owned it, that's the right thing to do. I also made a mistake some months ago, and I "half-owned it", and it's time I own it 100%, without excuses. Best of luck to you and your businesses!
Sorry you received so much hate. We all have blunders, most of the time not publicized though! Good on you for making right!
I will admit I came here because of cats video, but I think owning up to it the way you are is very good and I would donate the ducks to a children’s hospital or something like that.
Don’t be too hard on yourself, we all make mistakes maybe a few more when we are younger 😅 I’m 45 and still learning. Now go do something to take your mind off this as getting to wound up in it isn’t healthy. Put the Ducks to bed for the meantime. And decide what to do at a later date. When you feel more at peace with yourself ❤
Ive always been addicted to stuffed animals. They were getting expensive, so instead i got addicted to yarn and making them 😂😂😂😂
Of course I'm saving money😅
@@storyformiEXACTLY😂
Let’s all normalize making mistakes and learning from them. Thank you for taking the right steps and correcting a mistake 🖤
I’m going to be in the minority here, but it’s a duck with a hat and purse, there have been cute renditions of that forever. You can’t own an idea like that and it doesn’t seem like she has a trademark. Good on you for apologizing. These same people that are lambasting you better lose their minds anytime they see someone selling a baby yoda that isn’t Disney.
Thank you for owning up to your mistake. And don’t let this discourage you, you did the right thing and owned up to it. It shows integrity and will build your character as a person. I think you could’ve recognized it a bit sooner, but I can see how it might’ve been a confusing situation to handle. As for what to do with the manufactured ducks I think you should wait on the designer to decide what to do. And maybe try to create your own pattern for your “build your own plushie” station. It’s still a great idea. 😊
i think that this is good thing, we all make mistakes, being a small creator and having a blow up moment is euphoric. Choosing not to just try to sell the plushies, acknowledging the action and taking rectifying steps is not easy to do but shout out to you for taking the difficult but what i feel is a pretty honourable route. Smart doesn't equal perfect. I'm sure you're a really great person and one mistake doesn't and shouldn't define you, I wish you nothing but success on your journey❤🧶
You can gift the plushies to the church (as you said) or you can sell them and donate the profit. That way you can choose where to donate the money. So, you can get out of this without a loss but also won't profit of it. It would be very important to make all the finances available though so people trust you. Like how high are your costs and how much will you be able to donate from any duck that is sold. That is also a good way to atone to the community, showing that you are actually a honest person who really tries. Just another option with more work. But maybe also a good training for future projects. Also do get in contact with the pattern creator. When you do that they can decide for themeselves if they want to be part of getting a good home for the plushies. I also think it's a good idea to add QR Codes to patterns on booth's. Also very good for you for learning! Keep it up!
So relatable! Cute things give me serotonin 😭 I mainly created my small business because I REALLY enjoyed crocheting, and I wanted to sell some of my plushies because I was becoming a hoarder of plushies! 😅 😂
literally 😂😂 just made too many of them
Great Video Ashley! It’s all a learning curve. I would give advise as a 62 year old woman, please do not use profanity, it’s a turn off for me as I enjoy all ages of designer videos, but usually will not continue watching or subscribe if continually used. Just a friendly mother’s advice. Well done!
I'm glad you made this video. I saw Cat Cakes' video, commented on it, and then noticed she linked to your response. I appreciate how you acknowledged your mistake without making excuses. Copyright can be tricky, especially in creative fields. From my experience with mascot making, I know clients can be very strict about sharing photos of our work. Even though this situation is on a smaller scale, the principles are the same. It’s easy to cross ethical lines, and I understand I might face similar risks without meaning to. I hope I’d handle it with the same respect. It’s a good reminder for all of us to respect intellectual property rights, whether they belong to big companies or small creators.
Eres muy valiente al aceptar tu error, sigue creando no te rindas!
I did see the hate you got and I know all the creators who produced content told them not to so the people that did give hate was angering me. IMO you're still able to make mistakes! When I first saw your videos I totally thought the duck was your pattern btw. I was like wow what a cool command kept it pushing. I think you should give the ducks away as a gift with purchase at your markets. I know you learned from this. And I just want to know did you ever have a convo with El?
Ur frontal lobe develops at 21 💀💀💀💀
It’s generally not fully developed until 25-26
It's not easy taking accountability and owning up to the facts like you did. Thank you for making things right! Wishing you a lot of success and happiness in your creator journey & now you've got one new subscriber 😊
People make mistakes. Especially the young and inexperienced. (Goodness knows I made enough regrettable mistakes at your age.) As long as you own up to it, I think you're fine.
Just crochet them. its a very easy free pattern. (by Crochededbyel) stop sending work to China and trying to make a profit from thiese cheap stuffed things.
Came for the inevitable TH-camr non apology, stayed for the actual human growth and humility. Subbed for the super relatable anxiety induced word vomit 😂
Personally, I would sell the ducks and send the money to the designer. That's my 2 cents.
So so happy for you to own up to this. I will still be following you. Thank you for your honesty. You can get your money back when you donate for a cause. A hard lesson to learn. ❤
You should give them to the original designer maybe???? that or give them the contact to the manufacturer
good for you i can tell you genuinely are a decent human
