    You may wonder how scientists can reconstruct ancient landmasses and their location on the world map. Scientists can get a rough estimate based on data from rocks. Scientists can find the age of rocks by looking at radioactive isotopes that have a known half-life in igneous rocks. In addition, the orientation of magnetic minerals can indicate which direction and in which hemisphere an igneous rock formed in since these minerals orient themselves toward the Earth's magnetic poles. Fossils can also be used to get an idea of where a landmass was located in the past. For example, if abundant coniferous plant fossils are found the landmass was likely located in a cold temperate or subpolar latitude, which means it must have been located near either the North or South pole. On the other hand, plants that appear to be tropical in the fossil record would indicate the landmass was closer to the equator. The fossils can be dated by estimating the approximate age of the sedimentary rock the fossils are found in, which involves estimating the age of the surrounding rocks that are above and below the rock layer with the fossils being examined. If the rock layers above and/or below are igneous then a direct age can be found from isotopes in the igneous rock layers and then the rock layer with the fossils can be dated relative to the surrounding igneous rocks, especially if both the layer above and below are igneous. If the rock layers above and/or below the layer with the fossils being examined those other layers can still be estimated if they are part of a known formation, have fossils of species whose ages are already known from previous studies, or can also be estimated if they are above or below igneous rock layers themselves. However, these methods become more difficult the further back in time you go since there are less and less rocks the further back you go (less and less fossils too), so maps depicting the world 3 billion years ago are more likely to be inaccurate compared to a map of the world 100 million years ago.

    Geologists finally must discover that their entire theory is built on quicksand. It was conceived in the same way that a writer might write an idea for a book or a film. There is no real scientific evidence whatsoever for the geological theory that layers are formed in hundreds of thousands of years. In reality, an earth layer forms in seven days! This is caused by a regularly recurring natural disaster, mainly characterized by a flood, which is caused by a celestial body that revolves in an eccentric orbit around our sun. When it crosses the ecliptic plane it causes a huge tidal wave that leaves the Earth covered with a thick layer of mud. That mud hardens and after many years, hundreds, slowly a new layer starts building up. All this is supported by ancient knowledge and pictures that we can find world wide. Many more details about this cycle of natural disasters and many images can be found in an e-book. "Planet 9 = Nibiru". Search: invisible nibiru 9

    Being a neighbor of the La Garita Caldera near Creede, Colorado ~ I enjoyed focusing on how regularly our State was submerged (in geological time) ~ and that at least two submersions came from Arctic Ocean waters coming from the north(!). Centering on the USA is fine, but doing so can give the impression that our proto-continent was static; "everything else came here and impacted"(?). But my studies include how, when Pangea broke apart, the "early Colorado" (if permitted to label it as such) was located in the current "Indian Ocean" ~ and drifted west, rotating clockwise, and eventually hitting the Pacific plate(s). In this animation, that westward drift isn't evident: we see the Pacific plates moving east as if waves striking the beach. As hindsight being "20/20" this could be rectified with a composite overlay, showing the actual global voyage of this landmass from the Indian Ocean original* point. (* "original" = post-Pangea formation)

I just mainly see the ocean coming and going. And there are no words that explains why north America has a craton and other places do not? Dutchsense is always talking about the crayton.. But why does NA have a craton and other places do not? I also thought there had been a giant lake in the western half of the US in old old days? I didn't see that? I did see the ice come and go...

      The video demonstrates four concepts: (1) the movement of geologic plates through time; (2) the movements of the oceans through time, (3) how North America has been repeatedly below and above sea level during its geologic history, (4) the distribution of Sloss sequences and how they are related to the paleo-geographic map view. (From the description.)

    • @massivemanthinker2123
      @massivemanthinker2123 ปีที่แล้ว

      The video was more trying to demonstrate tectonic movements and how it related to geographic changes in North America. You are correct that volcanic eruptions were happening quite often, but in the grand scheme of things, they were not as consequential as large-scale mountain building events. About the cratons, plenty of other continents have cratons since they just represent areas of typically thicker and older continental crust which has been relatively tectonically stable. For example, the West African, Siberian, Scandinavian and Antarctic cratons are some examples besides the North American Craton. There were large lakes in the western US during the ice age afaik but considering the ice age only appeared as a few frames, they would have been hard to see. Look up Lake Bonneville and Agassiz if you want some specific lakes to read about.

      I think North America has one craton that's split by a fault running at a diagonal from Nova Scotia down thru Texas into Mexico. The Eastern section is moving NE while the western section is moving SW. The two got jammed in NE Texas / NW Louisiana to create the Sabine Uplift.

    Interesting! But what about Baja BC? Is it in there and I missed it? Good job!

      Although there is no Baja BC per se in the animation, you can see how it might've occurred if you watch the northward translation of the Pacific plate (and other plates?) as spreading ridges move north. I'm now more of a Baja BC believer watching this.

      Baja California is moving north really fast in geologic time.

    I have always wondered if any evidence exists that would show the existence of a rift valley forming in the area of Florida as Pangaea split up similar to east Africa today? I have never read about any evidence of associated volcanism in Florida.

    • @toughenupfluffy7294
      @toughenupfluffy7294 ปีที่แล้ว

      Florida looks like it was stretched at a triple junction when Africa and Europe split away during the breakup of Pangaea. From what little I know, I think the Atlantic spreading ridge migrated eastward, away from North America, before the opening of the Gulf of Mexico, making the entire area a passive margin setting without volcanic activity. Excellent observations!

    I once read that the distance from Vancouver Island in BC, Canada to Mainland Vancouver is decreasing. This would make this theory true. Who carries out these distance measurements?

    • @toughenupfluffy7294

      USGS and CGS, along with many universities and NASA.
