hey been a while since u posted a video - RC coming up for me, is devotion not a good call atm?
I haven’t had a chance to play much at all since Duskmourn came out, so I can’t make confident claims about Devotion’s positioning. If you’re unsure, then my recommendation is to pick either Phoenix or RB Aggro (whichever best fits your playstyle and/or card availability).
opinions on Tyrannax Rex?
Which decks are you most interested in having it against?
@@bobbyfortanely UW control i guess
Is there a place for Mirran Safehouse in this (80 card) deck as it can effectively be double Nykthos and it isnt neutralized by damping sphere for example. Ive been trying it in the 60 card version and found it a bit redundant since its easier to find Nykthos and the mana boost combo already works great.
I’m more interested in a Sylvia’s Scrying to more reliably find the first Nykthos, but that idea could work. Back in the Karnboard days, I couldn’t find space for Mirran Safehouse, so I’ve never been the biggest fan of the card, but I have seen people play it.
I am a mono green enjoyer and I discovered your channel with this video, it is really interesting the way you play and your explanations are very clear, thank you for the content! I'm playing a stompy mono green deck which does well against some matchups but struggles in the mono green traditional matchup as I am blocked with less option. I'm now trying to merge both gameplans but it's hard to find a good balance haha!
Thanks for the content bobby, great videos'! Couple questions on your sideboarding approach. Why do you bring in Nylea's Intervention against control? What do you think about taking some amount of trailblazers out against pheonix? I find they just die really easily to all their burn. Thanks again for the videos.
@@ok231 Nylea’s Intervention vs UW is because it can be an N-for-1 (getting multiple Lairs, Boseiju, Nykthos depending on the situation). Postboard vs Phoenix they’ll have a bunch of counter spells, so I’ve found that having the ability to plot Outcastee Trailblazer mattering for setting up a turn where you overload them.
hey! very helpful video as always. what do u think about the new RW midrange matchup? it seems really tough.
@@hotti9034 I haven’t played against it much yet, so I can’t provide an informed opinion. I am dubious that it’ll more than 5% of the metagame.
thanks for the content, great fan from brazil at minute 5, what about playing troll, using kiora to activate nyktos and play cavalier instead of outcaster and troll and spending kioras loyalty for one dmg?
There’s a pretty similar situation at 52:02 where I do go with the line you described. At minute 5, I care more about maximizing overall card advantage (since my opponent mulled to 5). But at minute 52, I care more about maximizing mana and deploying all my cards. It’s contextual.
Always excited for a new video on Green! Thank you for sharing the updated sideboard guide and your thoughts on DSK cards
Hi Bobby, thanks for another excellent video and the bonus sideboard guide! Very generous to make those available for free, I really appreciate it. I see the league itself is from a couple weeks ago. Do you provide more current information for a fee by chance?
I currently give it all away for free. I think this is the biggest gap I’ve had between recording and publishing; it’s typically a much smaller temporal gap. I’ll typically only formalize the sideboard plans for public consumption when there’s an immediate community need (RCQ season or a large paper event).
This is so helpful, thank you!
🌳
18:08 I feel like I am the galaxy brain meme because I subbed in Polukranos for the Oath of Nissa in my Explorer deck weeks ago 😂. Great stuff as always and thanks for the sideboard.
Always love an upload from you Bobby! BUT we didn't get a "TWOOOOO TIMES X" section in the deck discussion which makes me slightly sad!
Excellent!!!
We love a Bobby video
I normally publish videos on Saturdays, but here is the sideboard guide and video a day early for those competing in their RC in São Paulo tomorrow. Brazil is my channel’s 2nd highest-viewership country. docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1UZLlMUxW_6b9bZdzHlfRf9Yf9j69I9QN4pvRm-VyOqY/edit?usp=sharing
Big fan of your videos, cheers from Brazil
Why is Baloth better than the spider against control? They do cast a decent number of instants. EDIT: Ok you answer that question during game 3.
Keep going. You are amazing.
How do you stop Ygra infinite Combo?
Options include winning first, Stone Brain on Ygra/Cauldron Familiar, or adding Pithing Needle to the sideboard for Cauldron Familiar.
Are you going to do a video on potential useful Duskmourn cards for monogreen
The only card that stands out to me is Monstrous Emergence {1}{G} Sorcery As an additional cost to cast this spell, choose a creature you control or reveal a creature card from your hand. Monstrous Emergence deals damage equal to the power of the creature you chose or the card you revealed to target creature. Which could be a sideboard option for decks where sorcery speed removal is good.
@@bobbyfortanely Isn't it better to go for Hunter's Talent (BLB)? since its a permanent, it can be found thanks to Festival. but it needs setup on board.
Are there any chances of doing a video with sideboard options for different metas? I missed the game against the Sac deck, and I think it would be great content. One tip: sometimes you speak a bit too fast, which can be tough for non-native English speakers to follow.
Thanks for the feedback. The video before this one goes over a bunch of different sideboard depending on your expected meta.
Good videos lately Bobby
Glad you like them! 😊
Bobby, thank you so much for your dedication to this deck. I was thinking of going to the dark side (birbs) for DC but I am constantly happy to roll with my favorite deck any chance you might do a sideboard guide like before (rest in peace Karn Daddy)
I intend to put one together before DC, yes.
@@bobbyfortanely thank you, do you have a ko-fi / patreon / etc?
Not currently, no.
@bobbyfortanely when you have one please let me know and I'll be your first sub 😁
I would be interested in a Sb guide for the current iteration aswell, I was going to play rb prowess in DC, but now that it's taken off like the moon, I don't want to play the deck everyone is trying to beat lol. This is also the closest I can get to tron in pioneer lol
I'm definitely on board with brains vs UW, hitting tef is huge and honestly hitting deluge can be pretty backbreaking because it means they cant recover from their constant 1-1 trades on countering your stuff
Meta shift has been rough, went from being excited to not die on turn 3 to still dying on turn 3 with possibly dying on turn 2 now 😂
Tranquill frillback, discussion: seems a pretty good card against every deck in the meta, slightly worse than baloth (doesnt trigger kiora) But resolve some problems with sacrifice, and also be able to kill kumano or destroy the monster role in some narrow spots
Hey Bobby big fan of the content! I play on Arena and there is no Oath of Nissa. :( What would you play in that slot if you had to replace it?
An additional basic Forest
Love the continued work on Mono Green and great content! Green is the one pioneer deck I always keep together and play regularly at locals.
Awesome content as always, do you have any thoughts about the 1 Oddity Hostile Hostel lists that have been popping up?
I understand where those builds are coming from but I don't personally endorse it. I would be more ok with a colorless land if it was taking a spell slot, but I typically see it in a land slot. (For other readers without context, the intended use for Hostile Hostel is to sacrifice Cavalier of Thorns to put a milled/answered Ulvenwald Oddity on top of your library, and then draw into it.)
thank you for this <3
The UW Control strategy still amuses me to no end. "You are a control deck? No, I AM THE CONTROL DECK." (always a joy to watch the master at work 💕)
In Game 2 of Round 4, is there any consideration to waiting a turn before casting Emrakul in order to be able to downtick the Teferi and kill it?
@@ssch21 I think this is a reasonable consideration. The failure mode I was concerned about at the time with this line is that I give them 2 additional draws towards a wrath and that they don’t also have a counterspell in hand to answer their own wrath. If that happens, then I can’t point the wrath at a bad target the way I could with a removal spell. I really want this Emrakul survive long enough to connect for damage at least one time here, which would put more constraints on their game actions on future turns. I’m not too concerned about being able to answer the Teferi on my next turn though (since I have Cityscape Leveler to unearth on my next turn, and their own real counterplay to unearth Cityscape Leveler is Hallowed Moonlight, which I can cast on the Emrakul turn if they’ve been sitting on it.) All that said, I still think it’s entirely possible that waiting on the Emrakul for another turn could be correct.
@@bobbyfortanely That makes a lot of sense, thank you! Yeah, I think it’s pretty close, my first instinct when watching was to wait a turn but I think your line is likely a bit better. You’ve really helped my play with Devotion (especially in the UW matchup) so thanks for the great content and keep it up :)
This has been the biggest help! Can’t wait to use this knowledge for RC DC ❤
Always on the edge of my seat waiting for you to say "TWOOOOO TIMES X" during the deck discussion section
😂😂😂 I must’ve brought up this card in at least 5 different videos at this point, and I’ve only done 31 videos. Myself and my peers all misread this card multiple ways, so I gotta reaaaaaaaaaly emphasize it to make sure it doesn’t get lost in the shuffle.
@@bobbyfortanelywhenever you re-emphasize the card I can hear echoes of how excited you must have gotten the first time you saw it shine
@@bobbyfortanely I look forward to hearing "TWWWOOOOOOO TIMES X" in every future video
I played two games as Rakdos Aggro with Rockface Village, and I knew it was bait. Not being able to cast your pump spells when you need them is game losing for that deck. The third Ramunap or just another mountain has to be better.
hey, great work! would you mind updating your sideboard sheet? thx!
Great video. I’m planning on playing Mono Green for the upcoming RC in DC and this was a great tool for understanding how to play against the aggro matchups
I think its valid to run one copy of Sylvan Scrying and making sure to find Nykthos. I also run one copy of Bala Ged Recovery and Wakeroot Elemental, since the elemental can win many games on the spot. I truly wish to see more content on green dev
Do you ever stream your games on youtube or twitch? Would love to watch the thought process live especially with how all over the place the meta is currently. I'm nervous about dealing with the aggro decks as I have the list amount of experience playing against them not only with Green Devotion but in general in pioneer as well.
In regard to playing against aggro, you’ll like the next video coming out on Saturday, since it’s all about playing against aggro. I face 4 aggro decks (2 Rakdos aggro and 2 Gruul aggro). As for streaming the gameplay live, I don’t currently have plans to do that. I tried doing both gameplay and commentary simultaneously in an early video (the first league gameplay was back), but found that both suffered. My preferred method is to focus on the gameplay when playing, and focusing on the commentary afterwards.
I kinda think that the green sideboard is weak. Baloth does not look like a playable card to me, like a relic of the past.
I've been testing with 2 archdruid's charms in the main over two battles to help smooth draws and help find Nykthos easier. It seems to be working relativly well. Any thoughts one way or the other?
My existing thinking is to bias towards permanents for Oath, Battle, Storm, and Devotion-pips purposes. I have not actually tested it. Leyline does incentivize really finding Nykthos, so maybe that’s actually the correct direction. I have also thought about Sylvan Scrying to be the most direct method of finding Nykthos, but it’s possible then that the deck is not leaning to its core strengths (playing to the board), and would instead be becoming a worse version of Lotus Field. I’ll need to try those two variants and see how they play.
Hello, you can send a sideboard guide updatade?
I plan to, yes, once the metagame is more settled and it’s clearer what the sideboard should be targeting.
Do you have any tips on how to approach the azorius control matchup, it's the one Ive always struggled with the most even before the banning of Karn.
Check out my most viewed video, titled "How to Reliably Defeat UW Control with Mono Green Devotion". It's slightly dated due to Karn, but my overall approach is still similar. My planned video for next week will have a UW match in round 4.
Hi Bobby - appreciate your videos. I've been goldfishing with the new duskmourne overlord - have you tested with it/do you think its worth a look?
I have not tested with it yet, but I am dubious. It does fill the dual role of 3 and 5 drop, which makes it worth at least trying.
im in the same boat, i think phoenix is a good matchup with our new version of green given we have less noncreatures. also i really like tail swipe for shelly since you, while yes you are getting 1 for 2'd, you can use any of your 3 drop creatures on your main phase to kill her. obv not great but better than the alternative of not killing her and drawing cards into her. ive also been testing tear asunder since, while it cant hit shredder and slickshot, it exiles and has additional flexibility when you have leyline out to hit any nonland. ive hit some shellys and teferis with it to good success!
Scrapshooter is considered because it's a first of a kind 4 power creature with destroy artifact/enchantment.
This person ain't ever mutated a Gemrazer onto an Elf turn 2. (I've done this, it's not good.)
Well, and more importantly mutate doesn't trigger Kiora or Outcaster draw, which is why the 4th power is relevant
I appreciate you touching on the different versions and their strengths but I prefer this build much more than the previous one with Yorion. Great stuff as always.
Think we could maybe revisit Tolsimir?
I do love me some Tolsimir 🧝♂️🐶
Been big into duel commander. Would love to hear your take on the format : )
I kinda don't love playing 80 cards in my Nykthos deck but I might be wrong
